49). However, when we considered the effect of dietary intakes, subjects in the top tertile of DPI were 61% less likely to have a stroke than those in the bottom tertile (OR 0.39; 95% CI 0.16-0.95). When BMI was controlled, the association between DPI and stroke became strengthened (OR 0.32; 95% CI 0.12-0.86).
We found evidence indicating a significant inverse association between DPI and odds of stroke in adults. Further prospective studies are warranted to confirm this association

This randomized clinical trial was performed on 116 postmenopausal women with serum zinc levels below 62, and low sexual function who were randomly divided into two groups intervention and control. Serum zinc levels, testosterone, hemoglobin and hematocrit, as well as their Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were evaluated before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using paired and independent t-tests, Fisher's exact test, and Chi Square test. The use of zinc supplementation in the intervention group significantly improved sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, satisfaction, vaginal moisture, and pain during intercourse and also the overall score of sexual function compared to the control group (p less then 0.001). Zinc supplementation in the intervention group, resulted in a significant increase in testosterone levels compared to the control group, which improved sexual function in postmenopausal women non-significantly. The results of this study showed that zinc supplementation can improve testosterone levels and sexual function in postmenopausal women. Using this supplement in postmenopausal women having zinc insufficiency is recommended. Also, there is need for more studies to prove the effect of zinc on testosterone and sexual function.Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant, progressive neurodegenerative disease. It occurs due to a mutated huntingtin gene that contains an abnormal expansion of cytosine-adenine-guanine repeats, leading to a variable-length N-terminal polyglutamine (polyQ) chain. The mutation confers toxic functions to mutant huntingtin protein, causing neurodegeneration. Rutin is a flavonoid found in various plants, such as buckwheat, some teas, and apples. Our previous studies have indicated that rutin has protective effects in HD models, but more studies are needed to unravel its effects on protein homeostasis, and to discern the underlying mechanisms. In the present study, we investigated the effects of rutin in a Caenorhabditis elegans model of HD, focusing on ASH neurons and antioxidant defense. We tested behavioral changes (touch response, movement, and octanol response), measured neuronal polyQ aggregates, and assessed degeneration using a dye-filling assay. In addition, we analyzed expression levels of heat-shock protein-16.2 and superoxide dismutase-3. Overall, our data demonstrate that chronic rutin treatment maintains the function of ASH neurons, and decreases the degeneration of their sensory terminations. We propose that rutin does so in a mechanism that involves antioxidant activity by controlling the expression of antioxidant enzymes and other chaperones regulating proteostasis. Our findings provide new evidence of rutin's potential neuroprotective role in the C. elegans model and should inform treatment strategies for neurodegenerative diseases and other diseases caused by age-related protein aggregation.Stressful events during prenatal and postpartum have been associated with an increase in the susceptibility to the onset of various diseases, threatening mental and physical health of mother and baby. The aim of this study was to synthesize and analyze the literature related to risk factors associated with stress symptoms during pregnancy and immediate postpartum by means of an integrative review. The search was conducted from January 2013 to July 2020, consulting the following databases PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science and LILACS. In total, 1,677 studies were identified, resulting in 38 articles included in this review. The risk factors most associated with stress in pregnancy and postpartum were related to emotional factors (including mental health, traumatic events and obstetric complications); social and economic factors; mother's health conditions and life style behaviors, and social support and partner related stress. The results are discussed under the light of the biopsychosocial model, which proposes that biological, psychological, and social domains should be considered in order to minimize psychosocial risk conditions. It is concluded that strategies to promote psychological care, education, additional social support and health behaviors should be considered to prevent adverse birth outcomes and to increase maternal well-being.IntroductionThis research aims to develop, validate and implement health and safety performance metrics to evaluate the health and safety performance of sustainable building projects throughout their design and construction in Manitoba.MethodsThirty-four metrics were developed following a detailed literature review and validated by expert judgment based on analytic soundness, practicality and predictability. Only 25 metrics satisfied these criteria, of which five metrics were implemented via data collected on seven sustainable buildings and seven non-sustainable ones.ResultsThe results showed that sustainable building projects had 12.7% higher recordable injuries rates than non-sustainable ones, although the difference was statistically insignificant. Findings from this research showed that for sustainable building and non-sustainable ones, PM19, "The percentage of workers with unsafe behaviour based on conducted safety observations" had a statistically significant and strong negative correlation with PM 8 "The percentage of workers who attended safety meetings" and with PM 21, "The percentage of the total workdays in which safety meeting were held".ConclusionThe findings of this research can be used by general contractors and safety practitioners looking to enact evidence-based guidance to manage safety proactively onsite and improve health and safety performance of their sustainable building projects. This paper presents research on qualitative parameters conducted in order to develop a model for the improvement of occupational health and safety (OHS) in micro and small construction enterprises (MSEs). Entinostat Identification of factors and defining their significance enables improvements of OHS in the observed enterprises. The aim of the model is to assist construction MSEs in evaluating their qualities, pinpointing their deficiencies and ways to maximize the improvement to OHS performances. A panel of 20 experts defined the factors through an iterative process of the Delphi method. The research resulted in a model consisting of 42 OHS factors grouped into 10 categories. Model validation was carried out in the Republic of Serbia. The validation confirmed the applicability of the model as well as the relevance of factors which were determined by the panel of experts.Adipose tissue dysfunction, particularly the visceral (VAT) compartment, has been proposed to play a relevant role in colorectal cancer (CRC) development and progression. Epigenetic mechanisms could be involved in this association. The current study aimed to evaluate if specific epigenetic marks in VAT are associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) to identify epigenetic hallmarks of adipose tissue-related CRC. Epigenome-wide DNA methylation was evaluated in VAT from 25 healthy participants and 29 CRC patients, using the Infinium HumanMethylation450K BeadChip. The epigenome-wide methylation analysis identified 170,184 sites able to perfectly separate the CRC and healthy samples. The differentially methylated CpG sites (DMCpGs) showed a global trend for increased methylated levels in CRC with respect to healthy group. Most of the genes encoded by the DMCpGs belonged to metabolic pathways and cell cycle, insulin resistance, and adipocytokine signalling, as well as tumoural transformation processes. In gene-specific analyses, involved genes biologically relevant for the development of CRC include PTPRN2, MAD1L1, TNXB, DIP2C, INPP5A, HDCA4, PRDM16, RPTOR, ATP11A, TBCD, PABPC3, and IER2. The methylation level of some of them showed a discriminatory capacity for detecting CRC higher than 90%, showing IER2 to have the highest capacity. This study reveals that a specific methylation pattern of VAT is associated with CRC. Some of the epigenetic marks identified could provide useful tools for the prediction and personalized treatment of CRC connected to excess adiposity.Over the last several decades, policymakers have focused on rebalancing Medicaid-funded long-term services and supports toward home and community-based services (HCBS). The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) included several opportunities for states to further promote HCBS options. One optional opportunity for states to expand Medicaid HCBS was the 1915(k) Community First Choice (CFC) program. To date, eight states have elected to add CFC as a Medicaid benefit. This study utilized comparative case studies to identify the factors that influenced states' adoption of CFC. Results highlight the important role that state bureaucrats, economic concerns, and existing HCBS programs had on states' decisions to adopt CFC.Purpose To examine patterns of standard (trabeculectomy or glaucoma drainage devices, GDDs) vs novel (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, MIGS) surgical techniques in the US.Methods We used the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) queried between 2013 and 2018 (inclusive) to calculate the cumulative proportion of stand-alone, concurrent (same day) or sequential (subsequent day) glaucoma surgical techniques performed in each glaucoma diagnosis type. Secondary analyses of adjusted proportions of concurrent and sequential surgeries stratified by glaucoma diagnosis were also performed. Results Of 203,146 eyes receiving glaucoma surgeries, open angle glaucoma (OAG) was most likely to undergo all types of intervention. The iStent was the most commonly performed MIGS, primarily for those with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) or OAG (p less then .001). Conversely, GDD was the most commonly performed procedure in secondary glaucoma or other (specified) glaucoma (p less then .001). ECP and iStent were the most common concurrent procedures performed; most often for OAG and NTG (p less then .001). After an initial standard surgery, most eyes underwent recurrent standard interventions (90.3%). ECP was the most common MIGS performed after an initial standard surgery; particularly in primary angle-closure (PACG) and secondary glaucoma eyes (p less then .001).Conclusion Glaucoma type may influence the choice of glaucoma procedures and the decision to perform concurrent as well sequential surgical procedures. Given the poorly understood long term safety and effectiveness of MIGS, and with substantially increasing use of MIGS procedures in recent years, future studies comparing their safety and effectiveness vs standard interventions, for a variety of glaucoma types, is needed.
