The threshold values used for sequence filtering based on the "best identity" criterion and the number of reads had an effect on the assessment efficiency of data obtained with each marker. Compared to single marker results, combining data from different markers allowed us to improve the match between biotic index values obtained with the bulk DNA versus morphology-based approaches. Both approaches assigned the same ecological quality class to a majority (86%) of the site sampling events, highlighting both the efficiency of metabarcoding as a biomonitoring tool but also the need for further research to improve this efficiency.Pre-operative anaemia is associated with higher rates of transfusion and worse outcomes, including prolonged hospital stay, morbidity and mortality. Iron deficiency is associated with significantly lower haemoglobin levels throughout the peri-operative period and more frequent blood transfusion. Correction of iron stores before surgery forms part of the first pillar of patient blood management. We established a pre-operative anaemia clinic to aid identification and treatment of patients with iron deficiency anaemia scheduled for elective cardiac surgery. We present a retrospective observational review of our experience from January 2017 to December 2019. One-hundred and ninety patients received treatment with intravenous iron, a median of 21 days before cardiac surgery. Of these, 179 had a formal laboratory haemoglobin level measured before surgery, demonstrating a median rise in haemoglobin of 8.0 g.l-1 . Patients treated with i.v. iron demonstrated a significantly higher incidence of transfusion (60%) compae peri-operative risk to non-anaemic levels. Questions remain regarding identification of patients who will receive most benefit, the use of concomitant treatment with other agents, and the optimum time frames for treatment in order to produce benefit in the real-world setting.
To assess responsiveness of sexual function questionnaires Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire, IUGA-Revised (PISQ-IR) and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) in women with pelvic floor disorders (PFD).
The study included 261 subjects who completed PISQ-IR and FSFI at baseline and after treatment (median 8 months). Standardized response mean (SRM) and effect size (ES) were calculated for sexually active (SA) and not-SA (NSA) women. Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I) was applied to assess treatment outcomes.
A total of 184 women reported "very much better"/"much better" on the PGI-I scale posttreatment and were enrolled for further study. After treatment, 21.7% of the NSA women resumed sexual activity, 13.9% of the initially SA-abstained, and no change was reported for 152 (82.6%) subjects (87-SA and 65-NSA). Significant improvement in PISQ-IR SA domains was observed, with mild responsiveness for Arousal/Orgasm (SRM = 0.34, ES = 0.29, p = .003) and good responsiveness for Condition Specific, Global Quality and Summary Score (SRM = 0.51, ES = 0.50; SRM = 0.54, ES = 0.47; SRM = 0.75, ES = 0.63, p < .001). The Condition Impact domain demonstrated excellent responsiveness (SRM = 1.13, ES = 1.17, p < .001). In NSA, PISQ-IR had good responsiveness in Condition Impact (SRM = -0.76, ES = -0.59, p < .001), and mild in Condition Specific (SRM = -0.30, ES = -0.28, p < .03) domains. In FSFI, posttreatment sexual function in SA was improved in Desire, Arousal, Orgasm, Satisfaction, Pain domains and Total score, proving mild responsiveness (SRM, 0.24-0.48; p < .04). In NSA, FSFI proved nonresponsive.
PISQ-IR and FSFI are responsive tools, useful to investigate the effects of treatment on sexual function in SA (both questionnaires) and NSA (only PISQ-IR) women with PFD.

Polyploidy may serve to contribute to range size if autopolyploid cytotypes are adapted to differing ecological conditions. This study aims to establish the geographic distribution of cytotypes within the giant goldenrod (Solidago gigantea), and to assess whether cytotypes exhibit differing ecological tolerances and morphology.
A range-wide set of 629 Solidago gigantea individuals was obtained through field collecting, sampling from herbarium specimens, and incorporating existing chromosome counts. CC-92480 manufacturer Cytotype of each unknown sample was estimated by observing allele numbers at twelve microsatellite loci, a strategy that was assessed by comparing estimated to known cytotype in 20 chromosome-counted samples. Abiotic ecological differentiation was assessed for two transitions diploid-tetraploid and tetraploid-hexaploid. Morphological differentiation among cytotypes was assessed.
Microsatellite repeat variation accurately estimated cytotype in 85% of samples for which ploidy was known. Applying this approach to samples of unknown ploidy established that the three cytotypes are non-randomly distributed. Although niche modeling and MANOVA approaches identified significant differences in macro-climatic conditions for both cytotype transitions, the tetraploid to hexaploid transition was more substantial. Leaf length and width did not differ among cytotypes. Although leaf vestiture exhibited strong trends, no absolute differences were observed among cytotypes.
With the largest such study to date, we established niche transitions among giant goldenrod cytotypes of differing magnitudes. Collectively, this suggests that whole-genome duplication has contributed to Solidago gigantea's large range.

This study explores the main characteristics of entrepreneurial nursing.
Nurses have acted entrepreneurially in a multitude of ways since the very beginning of the nursing profession. Still, it is unclear what it means for a nurse to be entrepreneurial. Entrepreneurial nurses are often described inconsistently, by non-inclusive terms not founded in research. There is a need to examine the essence of entrepreneurial nursing roles.
I conducted the research as a systematic literature review of 647 documents. Analysing empirical descriptions of entrepreneurial nurses' employment status, contexts, knowledge, activities, barriers and motivations led to the description of two entrepreneurial nursing roles.
The employment status of entrepreneurial nurses represents an important difference in their activities, challenges and motivations.
Entrepreneurial nurses may act as nurse entrepreneurs or nurse intrapreneurs. These roles are empirically rooted in the field of nursing and theoretically rooted in the field of entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurial nurses are influenced by the support they get and the challenges they face in the health care system. Knowing the characteristics of entrepreneurial nurses is important for nurse managers, as they lead employees who may become nurse entrepreneurs or nurse intrapreneurs.

Despite the proven efficacy and safety of ECT, there is still concern about the possible cognitive side effects of ECT in older patients. In this study, we aimed to characterize the long-term cognitive effects of ECT in patients with late-life depression (LLD) from before the start until 4years after the index ECT course.
Fourty one patients aged 55years and older with a unipolar depression, referred for ECT, were included. The neuropsychological test battery was assessed prior to ECT, 6months, 1year, 2years, 3years, and 4years after the last ECT session.
We did not find any statistically significant cognitive changes from before the start to 4years after ending the ECT course. Although we could not detect cognitive changes at group level, we found clinically important differences on an individual level.
Cognitive performance in patients with LLD runs a stable course from before the start of ECT until 4years after the index course. At an individual level, however, both cognitive decline and improvement can be witnessed. Older patients can tolerate ECT and most of them will not experience long-term cognitive side effects.

For the invasive plants Solidago canadensis and S. gigantea, we tested whether such differentiation might have occurred through heritable epigenetic changes in cytosine methylation. In a 2-year common-garden experiment, we grew plants from seeds collected along a latitudinal gradient in their non-native Central European range to test for trait differentiation and whether differentiation disappeared when seeds were treated with the demethylation agent zebularine. Microsatellite markers revealed no population structure along the latitudinal gradient in S. canadensis, but three genetic clusters in S. gigantea. Solidago canadensis showed latitudinal clines in flowering phenology and growth. In S. gigantea, the number of clonal offspring decreased with latitude. Although zebularine had a significant effect on early growth, probably through effects on cytosine methylation, latitudinal clines remained (or even got stronger) in plants raised from seeds treated with zebularine. Thus, our experiment provides no evidence that epigenetic mechanisms by selective cytosine methylation contribute to the observed phenotypic differentiation in invasive goldenrods in Central Europe.
To compare the prevalence of psychological symptoms (depression, anxiety, and stress) in women with urinary incontinence (UI), according to the presence or absence of myofascial dysfunction (MD) in the pelvic floor muscles (PFMs).
Cross-sectional study, with women with UI who are 18 years old and over. The diagnosis of MD was defined by the pain of any intensity during the palpation of PFM. All participants answered the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Formand the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladderfor urinary symptoms and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale-Short Form-21to check for the presence and degrees of depression, anxiety, and stress.
Two hundred-thirty-four women with a mean age of 52.5 (±9.2) years were included. Almost half (51.7%) of women had MD. Women with MD showed higher mild and moderate anxiety scores (p = .005) and higher mild, moderate, and severe stress scores (p = .027) than women without MD. Depression scores were not associated with MD; however, women with and without MD reported severe or extremely severe depression, anxiety, and stress.
