Migraine-Like Positive Aesthetic Phenomena Related to Central Cortical Skin lesions together with Invisible Visual Area Flaws.
Such decontamination methods include physical debridement, chemo-mechanical treatments, laser ablation and photodynamic therapy, and electrochemical processes. There is a consensus that the efficient removal of the biofilm supplemented by chemical debridement and full access to the pocket is essential for treating peri-implantitis in clinical settings. Moreover, there is the potential to create ideal nano-modified titanium implants which exert antimicrobial actions and inhibit biofilm formation. Methods to achieve this include structural and surface changes via chemical and physical processes that alter the surface morphology and confer antibacterial properties. These have shown promise in preclinical investigations. In this study, we designed and synthetized artificial vascular scaffolds based on nanofibers of collagen functionalized with hyaluronic acid (HA) in order to direct the phenotypic shape, proliferation, and complete endothelization of mouse primary aortic endothelial cells (PAECs). Layered tubular HA/collagen nanofibers were prepared using electrospinning and crosslinking process. The obtained scaffold is composed of a thin inner layer and a thick outer layer that structurally mimic the layer the intima and media layers of the native blood vessels, respectively. Compared with the pure tubular collagen nanofibers, the surface of HA functionalized collagen nanofibers has higher anisotropic wettability and mechanical flexibility. HA/collagen nanofibers can significantly promote the elongation, proliferation and phenotypic shape expression of PAECs. In vitro co-culture of mouse PAECs and their corresponding smooth muscle cells (SMCs) showed that the luminal endothelialization governs the biophysical integrity of the newly formed extracellular matrix (e.g., collagen and elastin fibers) and structural remodeling of SMCs. Furthermore, in vitro hemocompatibility assays indicated that HA/collagen nanofibers have no detectable degree of hemolysis and coagulation, suggesting their promise as engineered vascular implants.Owing to the multi-dimensional complexity of human motions, traditional uniaxial strain sensors lack the accuracy in monitoring dynamic body motions working in different directions, thus multidirectional strain sensors with excellent electromechanical performance are urgently in need. Towards this goal, in this work, a stretchable biaxial strain sensor based on double elastic fabric (DEF) was developed by incorporating carboxylic multi-walled carbon nanotubes(c-MWCNTs) and polypyrrole (PPy) into fabric through simple, scalable soaking and adsorption-oxidizing methods. The fabricated DEF/c-MWCNTs/PPy strain sensor exhibited outstanding anisotropic strain sensing performance, including relatively high sensitivity with the maximum gauge factor (GF) of 5.2, good stretchability of over 80%, fast response time less then 100 ms, favorable electromechanical stability, and durability for over 800 stretching-releasing cycles. Moreover, applications of DEF/c-MWCNTs/PPy strain sensor for wearable devices were also reported, which were used for detecting human subtle motions and dynamic large-scale motions. The unconventional applications of DEF/c-MWCNTs/PPy strain sensor were also demonstrated by monitoring complex multi-degrees-of-freedom synovial joint motions of human body, such as neck and shoulder movements, suggesting that such materials showed a great potential to be applied in wearable electronics and personal healthcare monitoring.A promising aqueous aluminum ion battery (AIB) was assembled using a novel layered K2Ti8O17 anode against an activated carbon coated on a Ti mesh cathode in an AlCl3-based aqueous electrolyte. The intercalation/deintercalation mechanism endowed the layered K2Ti8O17 as a promising anode for rechargeable aqueous AIBs. NaAc was introduced into the AlCl3 aqueous electrolyte to enhance the cycling stability of the assembled aqueous AIB. The as-designed AIB displayed a high discharge voltage near 1.6 V, and a discharge capacity of up to 189.6 mAh g-1. The assembled AIB lit up a commercial light-emitting diode (LED) lasting more than one hour. Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) were employed to investigate the intercalation/deintercalation mechanism of Na+/Al3+ ions in the aqueous AIB. The results indicated that the layered structure facilitated the intercalation/deintercalation of Na+/Al3+ ions, thus providing a high-rate performance of the K2Ti8O17 anode. The diffusion-controlled electrochemical characteristics and the reduction of Ti4+ species during the discharge process illustrated the intercalation/deintercalation mechanism of the K2Ti8O17 anode. This study provides not only insight into the charge-discharge mechanism of the K2Ti8O17 anode but also a novel strategy to design rechargeable aqueous AIBs.This study presents the design and manufacture of metasurface lenses optimized for focusing light with 1.55 µm wavelength. The lenses are fabricated on silicon substrates using electron beam lithography, ultraviolet-nanoimprint lithography and cryogenic deep reactive-ion etching techniques. The designed metasurface makes use of the geometrical phase principle and consists of rectangular pillars with target dimensions of height h = 1200 nm, width w = 230 nm, length l = 354 nm and periodicity p = 835 nm. The simulated efficiency of the lens is 60%, while the master lenses obtained by using electron beam lithography are found to have an efficiency of 45%. The lenses subsequently fabricated via nanoimprint are characterized by an efficiency of 6%; the low efficiency is mainly attributed to the rounding of the rectangular nanostructures during the pattern transfer processes from the resist to silicon due to the presence of a thicker residual layer. This study investigated the impact of lime stabilization on the fate and transformation of AgNPs. It also evaluated the changes in the population and diversity of the five most relevant bacterial phyla in soil after applying lime-stabilized sludge containing AgNPs. The study was performed by spiking an environmentally relevant concentration of AgNPs (2 mg AgNPs/g TS) in sludge, applying lime stabilization to increase pH to above 12 for two hours, and applying lime-treated sludge to soil samples. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to investigate the morphological and compositional changes of AgNPs during lime stabilization. After the application of lime stabilized sludge to the soil, soil samples were periodically analyzed for total genomic DNA and changes in bacterial phyla diversity using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The results showed that lime treatment effectively removed AgNPs from the aqueous phase, and AgNPs were deposited on the lime molecules. The results revealed that AgNPs did not significantly impact the presence and diversity of the assessed phyla in the soil. However, lime stabilized sludge with AgNPs affected the abundance of each phylum over time. No significant effects on the soil total organic carbon (TOC), heterotrophic plate count (HPC), and percentage of the live cells were observed.Therapeutic ophthalmic contact lenses with prolonged drug release and improved bioavailability have been developed to circumvent tedious eye drop instillation. In this work, zwitterionic nanogels based on poly(sulfobetaine methacrylate) (PSBMA) were easily fabricated by one-step reflux-precipitation polymerization, with the advantages of being surfactant-free and morphology controlled. Then, the ophthalmic drug levofloxacin (LEV) was encapsulated into the nanogels. A set of contact lenses with varied nanogel-loading content was fabricated by the cast molding method, with the drug-loaded nanogels dispersed in pre-monomer solutions composed of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP). The structure, surface morphology, water contact angle (WCA), equilibrium water content (EWC), transmittance, and mechanical properties of the contact lenses were subsequently investigated, and in vitro drug release and biocompatibility were further evaluated. As a result, the optimized contact lens with nanogel-loading content of 8 wt% could sustainably deliver LEV for ten days, with critical lens properties within the range of recommended values for commercial contact lenses. Moreover, cell viability assays revealed that the prepared contact lenses were cytocompatible, suggesting their significant potential as an alternative to traditional eye drops or ointment formulations for long-term oculopathy treatment.Two-dimensional (2D) zeolite nanosheets are important for the synthesis of high flux zeolite membranes due to their lateral size in a preferred orientation. A way to obtain 2D zeolite nanosheets is to exfoliate interlocked structures generated during the hydrothermal synthesis. The mechanical and polymer assisted exfoliation process leads to mechanical damage in nanosheets and short lateral size. In the present study, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was introduced as an exfoliation agent and dispersant, so that multilamellar interlocked silicalite-1 zeolite nanosheets successfully exfoliated into a large lateral size (individual nanosheets 500~1200 nm). The good exfoliation behavior was due to the strong penetration of PVP into multilamellar nanosheets. Sonication assisted by mild milling helps PVP molecules to penetrate through the lamellar structure, contributing to the expansion of the distance between adjacent layers and thus decreasing the interactions between each layer. In addition, the stability of exfoliated nanosheets was evaluated with a series of organic solvents. The exfoliated nanosheets were well dispersed in n-butanol and stable for 30 days. Therefore, the PVP-assisted solution-based exfoliation process provides high aspect ratio MFI zeolite nanosheets in organic solvents for a long period.Formic acid is an advantageous liquid organic hydrogen carrier. It is relatively nontoxic and can be synthesized by the reaction of CO2 with sustainable hydrogen or by biomass decomposition. As an alternative to more widely studied powdery catalysts, supported Pd-C catalytic thin films with controlled nanostructure and compositions were newly prepared in this work by magnetron sputtering on structured supports and tested for the formic acid decomposition reaction. Epacadostat A two-magnetron configuration (carbon and tailored Pd-C targets) was used to achieve a reduction in Pd consumption and high catalyst surface roughness and dispersion by increasing the carbon content. Activity and durability tests were carried out for the gas phase formic acid decomposition reaction on SiC foam monoliths coated with the Pd-C films and the effects of column width, surface roughness and thermal pre-reduction time were investigated. Activity of 5.04 molH2·gPd-1·h-1 and 92% selectivity to the dehydrogenation reaction were achieved at 300 °C for the catalyst with a lower column width and higher carbon content and surface roughness. It was also found that deactivation occurs when Pd is sintered due to the elimination of carbon and/or the segregation and agglomeration of Pd upon cycling. Magnetron sputtering deposition appears as a promising and scalable route for the one-step preparation of Pd-C catalytic films by overcoming the different deposition characteristics of Pd and C with an appropriate experimental design.
