06%). CHO administration was associated with the shorter hospitalization (SUCRA 86.9%), with the best metabolic profile (SUCRA values for insulin resistance and sensitivity were 81.1% and 76%). CHO enriched was the best approach for postoperative CRP values. Preoperative fasting was the worst approach for morbidity, PONV, insulin resistance and sensitivity, and CRP (SUCRA values of 32.1%, 21.7%, 10.2%, 3.2%, and 2.0%).
Both preoperative CHO loading and clear water use were superior to the fasting about morbidity. CHO drinks use could provide specific advantages, reduce the PONV rate, and improve carbohydrate homeostasis, inflammatory pathway, and hospitalization.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is common worldwide and has been associated with poor sleep. The effect of vitamin B12 supplementation on sleep in infants is not known.
To measure the effect of daily supplementation of vitamin B12 for one year on sleep in infants at risk of deficiency.
This was an individually randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial in 600 infants in low-to middle-income neighborhoods in Bhaktapur, Nepal of daily supplementation of vitamin B12 for one year. Infants were included if they were 6-11 month year-old and with a length-for-age less than one z-score. Sleep was a predefined, secondary outcome, and was measured by actigraphy including sleep duration at night and total sleep duration (day and night), sleep onset latency (SOL), and wake after sleep onset (WASO). The effect of vitamin B12 on sleep was additionally assessed in predefined subgroups defined by stunting, underweight, vitamin B12 status, low birthweight, anemia and exclusive breastfeeding for 3 months.
There was no effect of vitamin B12 supplementation on sleep duration at night, total sleep duration, or WASO. There was a small significant negative effect for SOL. None of the included subgroup analyses revealed effect modification on any of the sleep outcomes.
Overall, vitamin B12 supplementation did not have an effect on sleep in infants or for high-risk subgroups, with the exception of a small negative effect for SOL. The present study does not support vitamin B12 supplementation to improve sleep in infants.

The dietary management of active ulcerative colitis (UC) is currently poorly understood. Due to the lack of clinical guidelines for this population, diet choice may be based on the personal judgement of the clinician, and without sound evidence. The aim of this systematic review was to appraise the current literature on the dietary management of individuals with active UC, in both inpatient and outpatient settings, to determine if clinical outcomes differ by diet prescription.
PUBMED, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science and SCOPUS were comprehensively searched during March and April 2020. Eligible trials recruited adults with active UC comparing different methods of dietary management, including enteral nutrition (EN), total parenteral nutrition (TPN), elimination diets and standard oral diets, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
10 studies met inclusion criteria of this qualitative synthesis. No difference was found between EN, TPN and bowel rest in terms of disease activity measures when compared to a standard oral diet. The results of this study also showed promising potential for the use of elimination diets in the outpatient setting with four studies finding a significant difference in disease activity measures between the intervention diet and control.
There is no strong evidence to support the use of any specific dietary prescription to improve clinical outcomes for individuals with active UC. A number of low quality studies suggest benefit of following an elimination diet, however, additional high quality studies are required before any more specific recommendations can be made.

Nutritional challenges following bariatric surgery can be intensified during pregnancy and may have crucial effects on the fetus, including lower birth weight. To the best of our knowledge, the effect of nutritional counseling during post-bariatric pregnancy to improve maternal diet quality and eating habits on neonatal outcome has not been evaluated. The aim of this research was to examine the effects of personal nutritional counseling during post-bariatric pregnancy on nutritional intake and neonatal outcomes.
We performed a non-randomized, intervention-control clinical trial. Women (n=61) were divided into three groups; two prospective, and one retrospective 1. An Intervention Bariatric Prospective group 2. A Control Prospective group without surgery, and 3. A Control Bariatric Retrospective group. Patient enrollment was performed from April 2016 to March 2018. The intervention program included biweekly visits with a pregnancy nutrition certified bariatric dietitian. Data collection was performed four rth weight results.
Our results suggest that personalized nutritional counseling care during post bariatric pregnancy improved nutrient intake of mothers and may contribute to higher birth weight of offspring. Further research is needed to examine the effects of prenatal nutrition care intervention, in addition to repeating this trial with a larger sample size, to allow for clearer findings.

During early childhood the risk of iron deficiency (ID) is high. Serum ferritin serves as a marker of iron status. We explored prevalence of ID and iron deficiency anemia (IDA), and identified determinants of iron status in infants and toddlers.
We performed a secondary analysis of the Vitamin D intervention in infants (VIDI) study in Finnish healthy term infants. According to study protocol, at 12- and 24-months of age iron status, growth and dietary intakes were evaluated. ID was defined as serum ferritin <10μg/L and IDA as serum ferritin <10μg/L and Hb <112g/L. For the present study, altogether 766 children provided data (N=498 infants at 12 months, N=508 toddlers at 24 months).
ID prevalence increased from 14% in infants to 20% in toddlers. IDA prevalence was 3% at both time points. In infants, ID and IDA were more common in boys than in girls (19% vs. 9%, p=0.001 and 5% vs. 1%, p=0.039) but no sex-difference in toddlers was observed. Of infants, 30% had daily iron intake below average requsignificance of ID on child development and clinical health outcomes. The project protocol is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01723852.
In Northern European healthy infants and toddlers ID is common. The intake of iron remains below recommendations and food consumption and iron intake associate with iron status. We proposed a miniaturized electrochemical magneto-immunosensor (EC-MIS) on portable interleukin-6 (IL-6) detection based on this requirement. Firstly, a micro-fabricated working electrode is electrochemically modified with a hybrid of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Increased surface area and enhanced charge transfer rate improve the performance of this immunosensor on sensitivity. Secondly, magnetic beads attached with the capture antibody (cAb) are employed in sandwich immunoassay. This kind of immunoassay is immobilized on the working electrode surface by an external magnet to enrich the analyte IL-6. Thirdly, the last two features are combined and integrated on a microfluidic device in order to restrict the sample at certain areas and ease the operation of detection. With our prototypic EC-MIS operated in amperometric mode, we have achieved the detection of IL-6 with a linear range from 0.97 to 250 pg/mL and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.42 pg/mL. However, the underlying cognitive mechanisms remain unclear. There is reason to assume that phantom limbs that are experienced as part of the bodily self (phantom self-consciousness) can affect prosthesis embodiment, but only if the phantom and the prosthesis can be brought into perceived co-location (phantom prosthesis tolerance, PPT). In the present study, phantom-prosthesis interactions were examined in lower limb amputees, and a PPT component was psychometrically extracted. Mediation analysis revealed an indirect-only effect, where the relationship between phantom self-consciousness and prosthesis embodiment was mediated by PPT, indicating that phantom limbs can transfer their immanent vividness to the prosthesis. Subsequent analyses suggested that this effect can compensate for negative consequences on prosthesis embodiment that arise from phantom limb awareness. These results shape theoretical considerations about the cognitive processes contributing to the bodily self.The discovery of hybrids between Ascaris lumbricoides and Ascaris suum has complicated our understanding of the relationship between the two species. We examined the same Ascaris specimens (48 from humans and 48 from pigs) using two methods microsatellite markers combined with Bayesian clustering and PCR-RFLP of the nuclear internal transcribed spacer region. The results obtained by the two methods were inconsistent but showed that hybrid Ascaris identified through both approaches could infect pigs. The results of this study suggest that PCR-RFLP of ITS alone is not suitable for molecular identification of human-type and pig-type Ascaris hybrids. Use of multiple SSR markers combined with Bayesian analysis was the most reliable method in our study. Our results indicate that, in addition to host-specific Ascaris types, there may be some that do not show host specificity. Our results show for the first time that hybrid individuals can infect pigs as well as humans. This study has important theoretical and practical implications, including suggesting the need to re-evaluate long-term ascariasis control strategies.
