Visible-Light-Induced Trifluoromethylation associated with Allylic Alcohols.
Soft tissue engineering has been seeking ways to mimic the natural extracellular microenvironment that allows cells to migrate and proliferate to regenerate new tissue. Therefore, the reconstruction of soft tissue requires a scaffold possessing the extracellular matrix (ECM)-mimicking fibrous structure and elastic property, which affect the cell functions and tissue regeneration. Herein, an effective method for fabricating nanofibrous hydrogel for soft tissue engineering is demonstrated using gelatin-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid (Gel-HPA) by electrospinning and enzymatic crosslinking. Gel-HPA fibrous hydrogel was prepared by crosslinking the electrospun fibers in ethanol-water solution with an optimized concentration of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and H2O2. The prepared fibrous hydrogel held the soft and elastic mechanical property of hydrogels and the three-dimensional (3D) fibrous structure of electrospun fibers. It was proven that the hydrogel scaffolds were biocompatible, improving the cellular adhesion, spreading, and proliferation. Moreover, the fibrous hydrogel showed rapid biodegradability and promoted angiogenesis in vivo. Overall, this study represents a novel biomimetic approach to generate Gel-HPA fibrous hydrogel scaffolds which have excellent potential in soft tissue regeneration applications.
Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a common disease. The objective of this research was to determine the effectiveness of a graduated walking program in reducing the apnea-hypopnea index number in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).

A randomized controlled clinical trial with a two-arm parallel in three tertiary hospitals was carried out with seventy sedentary patients with moderate to severe OSAS. Twenty-nine subjects in each arm were analyzed by protocol. The control group received usual care, while usual care and an exercise program based on progressive walks without direct supervision for 6 months were offered to the intervention group.

The apnea-hypopnea index decreased by six points in the intervention group, and improvements in oxygen desaturation index, total cholesterol, and Low-Density Lipoprotein of Cholesterol (LDL-c) were observed. A higher decrease in sleep apnea-hypopnea index (45 ± 20.6 vs. 34 ± 26.3/h;
= 0.002) was found in patients with severe vs. moderate OSAS, as well as in oxygen desaturation index from baseline values (43.3 vs. 34.3/h;
= 0.046). Besides, High-Density Lipoprotein of Cholesterol (HDL-c) values showed a higher increase in the intervention group (45.3 vs. 49.5 mg/dL;
= 0.009) and also, a higher decrease in LDL-c was found in this group (141.2 vs. 127.5 mg/dL;
= 0.038).

A home physical exercise program is a useful and viable therapeutic measure for the management of OSAS.
A home physical exercise program is a useful and viable therapeutic measure for the management of OSAS.Swimming is a form of physical activity and a life-saving skill. However, only a few studies have identified swimming ability classifiers in preschool children. This pilot cross-sectional study aimed to find anthropometric (AM) and motor competence (MC) predictors of swimming ability in preschool children, by building classifiers of swimming ability group (SAG) membership. We recruited 92 children (girls n = 45) aged 5-6 years and took the AM and MC measurements in accordance with the reference manual and using the KTK battery test (motor quotient, MQ), respectively. A linear discriminant analysis tested a classification model of preschoolers' swimming ability (SAG POOR, GOOD, EXCELLENT) based on gender, age, AM, and MC variables and extracted one significant canonical discriminant function (model fit 61.2%) that can differentiate (group centroids) POOR (-1.507), GOOD (0.032), and EXCELLENT (1.524). The MQ total was identified as a significant classifier, which absolutely contributed to the discriminant function that classifies children's swimming ability as POOR (standardized canonical coefficient 1.186), GOOD (1.363), or EXCELLENT (1.535) with an accuracy of 64.1%. Children with higher MQ total ought to be classified into higher SAG; thus, the classification model of SAG based on the MQ total is presented.In this work, MoS2 microspheres/PtCo-alloy nanoparticles (MoS2/PtCo-alloy NPs) were composited via a novel and facile process which MoS2 is functionalized by poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) and self-assembled with PtCo-alloy NPs. This new composite shows excellent electrocatalytic activity and great potential for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as a counter electrode (CE) material. Benefiting from heterostructure and synergistic effects, the MoS2/PtCo-alloy NPs exhibit high electrocatalytic activity, low charge-transfer resistance and stability in the cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) test. Meanwhile, a high power-conversion efficiency (PCE) of 8.46% is achieved in DSSCs with MoS2/PtCo-alloy NP CEs, which are comparable to traditional Pt CEs (8.45%). This novel composite provides a new high-performance, stable and cheap choice for CEs in DSSCs.Coatings enriched with zinc and copper as well as calcium or magnesium, fabricated on titanium substrate by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) under AC conditions (two cathodic voltages, i.e., -35 or -135 V, and anodic voltage of +400 V), were investigated. In all experiments, the electrolytes were based on concentrated orthophosphoric acid (85 wt%) and zinc, copper, calcium and/or magnesium nitrates. It was found that the introduced calcium and magnesium were in the ranges 5.0-5.4 at% and 5.6-6.5 at%, respectively, while the zinc and copper amounts were in the range of 0.3-0.6 at%. selleck chemicals Additionally, it was noted that the metals of the block S (Ca and Mg) could be incorporated into the structure about 13 times more than metals of the transition group (Zn and Cu). The incorporated metals (from the electrolyte) into the top-layer of PEO phosphate coatings were on their first (Cu+) or second (Cu2+, Ca2+ and Mg2+) oxidation states. The crystalline phases (TiO and Ti3O) were detected only in coatings fabricated at cathodic voltage of -135 V. It has also been pointed that fabricated porous calcium-phosphate coatings enriched with biocompatible magnesium as well as with antibacterial zinc and copper are dedicated mainly to medical applications. However, their use for other applications (e.g., catalysis and photocatalysis) after additional functionalizations is not excluded.In the multi-target traffic radar scene, the clustering accuracy between vehicles with close driving distance is relatively low. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a new clustering algorithm, namely an adaptive ellipse distance density peak fuzzy (AEDDPF) clustering algorithm. Firstly, the Euclidean distance is replaced by adaptive ellipse distance, which can more accurately describe the structure of data obtained by radar measurement vehicles. Secondly, the adaptive exponential function curve is introduced in the decision graph of the fast density peak search algorithm to accurately select the density peak point, and the initialization of the AEDDPF algorithm is completed. Finally, the membership matrix and the clustering center are calculated through successive iterations to obtain the clustering result.The time complexity of the AEDDPF algorithm is analyzed. Compared with the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN), k-means, fuzzy c-means (FCM), Gustafson-Kessel (GK), and adaptive Euclidean distance density peak fuzzy (Euclid-ADDPF) algorithms, the AEDDPF algorithm has higher clustering accuracy for real measurement data sets in certain scenarios. The experimental results also prove that the proposed algorithm has a better clustering effect in some close-range vehicle scene applications. The generalization ability of the proposed AEDDPF algorithm applied to other types of data is also analyzed.The present experiment assessed the inflammatory responses, hormone secretion, and gut microbiota of weanling piglets administered baicalin-copper complex (BCU) or deoxynivalenol (DON) supplementation diets. Twenty-eight piglets were randomly assigned to four groups control diet (Con group), a 4 mg DON/kg diet (DON group), a 5 g BCU/kg diet (BCU group), a 5 g BCU + 4 mg DON/kg diet (DBCU group). After 14 days, the results showed that dietary BCU supplementation remarkably increased the relative abundance of Clostrium bornimense and decreased the relative abundance of Lactobacillus in the DBCU group (p less then 0.05). BCU decreased the serum concentration of IgG, IL-2, IFN-γ, and IgA in DON treated piglets (p less then 0.05), and promoted the serum concentration of IL-1β, IgG, IL-2, IFN-γ, IgA, IL-6, IgM, and TNFα in normal piglets (p less then 0.05). BCU increased the concentrations of serum IGF1, insulin, NPY, GLP-1, and GH, and decreased the concentrations of serum somatostatin in no DON treated piglets (p less then 0.05). Dietary BCU supplementation significantly promoted the secretion of somatostatin, and inhibited the secretion of leptin in piglets challenged with DON (p less then 0.05). BCU regulated the expression of food intake-related genes in the hypothalamus and pituitary of piglets. Collectively, dietary BCU supplementation alleviated inflammatory responses and regulated the secretion of appetite-regulating hormones and growth-axis hormones in DON challenged piglets, which was closely linked to changes of intestinal microbes.This Special Issue focuses on eutrophication and related ecological health risks-one of the biggest challenges to sustainable water management. It is increasingly recognized that eutrophication has multidimensional consequences for water quality, both ecosystem and human health, as well as economic activities. These consequences depend on site-specific conditions, specifically, the ecological stability of the system, land use types, climate change, and the presence of other contaminants, including infectious disease agents. This Special Issue contains ten research papers that focus on, among other factors, phosphorus, cyanobacteria, off-flavor substances, macroinvertebrates, chemical stress, and land-use effects, thereby increasing our understanding of the multidimensional effects of eutrophication.Seafood products are important sources of protein and components of a healthy and sustainable diet. Understanding consumers' preferences for fish products is crucial for increasing fish consumption. This article reports the consumer preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) for different fish species and attributes on representative samples in five European countries (n = 2509) France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Consumer choices were investigated for fresh fish in a retail market under hypothetical situations arranged by a labelled choice experiment conducted for seven fish species Cod, herring, seabass, seabream, salmon, trout, and pangasius. The results show the highest premiums for wild-caught fish than farm-raised alternatives. Ready-to-cook products are generally preferred to whole fish, whereas fish fillet preference is more species-specific. The results show positive premiums for a sustainability label and nutrition and health claims, with high heterogeneity across countries and species. With consumers' preferences and WTP being largely country- and fish-dependent, businesses (fish companies, retailers, and others) should consider the specific market context and adapt their labelling strategies accordingly.
