Thrombo-hemorrhagic complications cause significant morbidity and mortality in patients with polycythemia vera (PV).
To assay and correlate inflammatory cytokines with the thrombotic risk in PV patients.
This prospective observational study was carried out at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India over 18-months. The study enrolled 52 patients with PV (newly diagnosed=28, follow-up=24), and 20 age/sex-matched controls. Cytokine analysis for IL 1β, IL2, IL4, IL6, IL8, IL10, IL11, IL12/23p40, TNFα, and IFN-γ was performed on the peripheral blood (before treatment initiation for newly diagnosed cases, and after 7days of stopping drugs for follow-up cases) by flow cytometry-based cytokine bead analysis (CBA) using CBA kits (BD™ biosciences, USA). Results were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 22.0.
The mean age of patients was 51.9±13years. Levels of IL-6, IL-1β, IL-8, IL-11, IL-12/23p40 were significantly raised, however, TNF-α, and IFN-γ levels were significantly lower in the PV population as compared to controls. A significant correlation between the levels of IL-6, IL-2, and IL-8 with the overall risk of thrombosis in PV patients was observed.
PV patients display an aberrant pattern of plasma cytokine expression, the levels of which correlate with the thrombotic risk.

To assess the necessity of withdrawing dopaminergic medication in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients for accurate estimation of adenosine 2A receptor (A
R) availability using [
C]TMSX PET imaging. This was accomplished by studying the short-term effect of the cessation of dopaminergic medication on A
R availability in non-dyskinetic patients with PD treated with dopaminergic medication.
Eight PD patients (age 67.9±5.6 years; 6 men, 2 women) without dyskinesia were enrolled in this study. A
R availability was measured using PET imaging with a [7-methyl-
C]-(E)-8-(3,4,5-trimethoxystyryl)-1,3,7-trimethylxanthine ([
C]TMSX) radioligand after a short term cessation of dopaminergic medication (12hrs for levodopa, 24hrs for dopamine agonists and MAO-B inhibitors). Repeated PET imaging was performed while the patients were back 'on' their regular dopaminergic medication (median 13 days after first imaging). Conventional MRI was acquired for anatomical reference. Specific binding of [
C]TMSX was quantified a.
One reason for the inclusion of Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) was its suspected relevance for treatment indications. We investigated whether CPTSD predicted and moderated treatment outcomes of Prolonged Exposure (PE), intensified PE (iPE) and Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation followed by PE (STAIR + PE). GSK1838705A mouse We expected that CPTSD would predict worse treatment outcomes across treatments. Secondly, we expected that CPTSD would lead to better treatment effect in STAIR + PE compared to PE and iPE.
We analyzed 149 patients with childhood-abuse related PTSD from a randomized clinical trial. CPTSD diagnosis and symptom severity were measured with the International Trauma Questionnaire. The main outcome was change in clinician-assessed PTSD symptoms. Assessments took place at baseline, week 4, week 8, week 16 (post-treatment) and at a 6-and 12-month follow-up. Analyses were based on an intention-to-treat sample using mixed effect models.
More than half (54 %) of the patients met criteria for CPTSD at baseline. CPTSD was related to more severe PTSD symptoms and higher comorbidity at baseline. CPTSD neither predicted nor moderated treatment outcome.
Inclusion was limited to patients with PTSD related to childhood abuse. Replication is needed in different samples.
CPTSD is associated with more severe PTSD and with higher comorbidity. CPTSD did not predict treatment outcome and did not indicate differential treatment outcome of STAIR + PE compared to PE and iPE.

Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) is one of the most widely used additive manufacturing (AM) techniques involved in the production of Ti6Al4V lattice structures. The mechanical and failure behavior of lattice structures is strongly affected by geometrical imperfections and defects occurring during L-PBF process. Due to the influence of multiple process parameters and to their combined effect, the mechanical properties of these structures are not yet properly understood. Despite the major commitment to characterize and better comprehend lattice structures, little attention has been paid to the impact that single struts have on the overall lattice properties. In this work, the authors have investigated the tensile strength and fatigue behavior of thin L-PBF Ti6Al4V lattice struts at different building orientations (0°, 15°, 45°, and 90°). This investigation has been focused on the effect that microstructural defects (particularly porosity) and actual surface geometry (including surface texture and geometrical errors such as varying cross-section shape and size) have on the mechanical performances of the struts in relation to their building direction. The results have shown that there is a tendency, particularly for low printing angles, of fatigue life to decrease with decreasing of the building angle. This is mainly due to the surge in surface texture and loss in cross-sectional regularity. On the other hand, the monotonic tensile test results have shown a low sensitivity to these factors. The strut failure behavior has been examined employing dynamic digital image correlation (DIC) of tensile tests and scanning electron imaging (SEM) of the fracture surfaces.
Feeling unsafe when riding a bicycle is a key barrier to cycling participation. To better understand the experiences of cycling on-road, this study aimed to explore the relationship between cyclists' subjective experiences and the lateral passing distance of motor vehicles.
An on-road observational study was conducted in Victoria, Australia. Participants had a custom device installed on their bicycle that measured the lateral passing distance of motor vehicles and included a handlebar mounted "panic button" that participants could press when they felt that a passing event was too close or unsafe. A random effects logistic regression model was used to investigate the relationship between cyclist sex, motor vehicle type and infrastructure characteristics, and button press events.
A total of 217 button press events were recorded (1.2 % of all passing events) from 60 participants. For events with a passing distance closer than 100 cm, 10.4 % of these events had a recorded button press. The adjusted odds of on of safe and comfortable cycling infrastructure.Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies with a 5-year survival rate less than 8%, which has remained unchanged over the last 50 years. Early detection is particularly difficult due to the lack of disease-specific symptoms and a reliable biomarker. Multimodality treatment including chemotherapy, radiotherapy (used sparingly) and surgery has become the standard of care for patients with PDAC. Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) is the most common diagnostic biomarker; however, it is not specific enough especially for asymptomatic patients. Non-coding RNAs are often deregulated in human malignancies and shown to be involved in cancer-related mechanisms such as cell growth, differentiation, and cell death. Several micro, long non-coding and circular RNAs have been reported to date which are involved in PDAC. Aim of this review is to discuss the roles and functions of non-coding RNAs in diagnosis and treatments of PDAC.Mycoplasma pneumoniae is the most common pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia in humans. Due to its high rates of antibiotic resistance, vaccination has become the best method to control the dissemination of M. pneumoniae. The recombinant carboxyl terminus of the P1 (P1C) protein is an immunodominant antigen, but it has negative effects such as poor stability and lower purity. In the current study, T-B epitopes of the P1C protein were predicted according to bioinformatics analysis and assessed for efficacy in peptide vaccination. BALB/c mice were subcutaneously inoculated with the T-B epitope peptides four times and then infected with M. pneumoniae through the respiratory tract. The results showed that the T-B epitope peptides of the P1C protein (P1C103-117, P1C155-169, P1C224-238 and P1C244-258) induced strong antigen-specific serum antibody responses and cellular immune responses with high levels of serum IgG, IgA antibodies and Th1-biased (IFN-γ and IL-2) cytokines. Immunization with T-B epitope peptides significantly reduced the M. pneumoniae burden and the degree of inflammation in the challenged mice. Furthermore, the levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α in the supernatants of lung homogenates were observably reduced compared to those in the PBS group. Overall, our findings demonstrate that T-B epitopes (P1C103-117, P1C155-169, P1C224-238 and P1C244-258) play significant roles in the P1C protein and can be used to induce powerful humoral and cellular immune responses to provide significant protection against M. pneumoniae pulmonary infection, which provides new insight into the design of potential multiepitope vaccines to prevent host infection by M. pneumoniae.Findings consistently illustrate the negative association between women's sexual objectification and their sexual functioning. At the same time, some scholars argue that sexualized self-presentation may be a way to embrace one's sexuality and may signify empowerment. To date, no studies have explicitly explored the potential differential contributions of self-objectification and self-sexualization to multiple aspects of women's sexual agency. Towards this end, we surveyed 556 undergraduate women to examine how body surveillance, self-objectification, and self-sexualization differentially predict women's sexual assertiveness, sexual satisfaction, feelings of entitlement to sexual pleasure, condom use self-efficacy, and sexual esteem. Path analysis demonstrated consistent negative links between body surveillance, one behavioral manifestation of self-objectification, and sexual agency outcomes, but revealed both negative and positive links between measures of sexualization and sexual agency. This complex set of associations highlights the value of studying self-objectification and self-sexualization both in tandem and separately, so that researchers can develop a better understanding of the implications of each for women's sexual agency.
