The direction to fair health-related: A conceptual design created from a qualitative examine involving Syrian refugees throughout Norway.
This study demonstrates that subsurface microbial community interactions are more complex than categorical, guild-based competition for resources such as electron donor.Aging and overweight are involved in prostatic lesion development, due to their association with cell proliferation, hormonal imbalance and angiogenesis. The jaboticaba fruit is rich in bioactive compounds, showing potential chemopreventive action such as the capacity to modulate hormones and angiogenesis hallmarks. This study aimed to evaluate the jaboticaba extract (PJE) effect on the prostate morphology and on molecules related to hormone signaling and angiogenesis, during aging and/or high-fat diet (HFD) intake. Seventy FVB mice were distributed into experimental groups YG group (young 3 month old mice), AG group (aged 11 month old mice), HfAG group (aged + HFD), JAGI group (aged + 2.9 g kg-1 PJE), JAGII group (aged + 5.8 g kg-1 PJE), HfJAGI group (aged + HFD + 2.9 g kg-1 PJE) and HfJAGII group (aged + HFD + 5.8 g kg-1 PJE). The ventral prostate was collected for morphological, immunohistochemistry and western-blotting analysis after 60 days of treatment. All PJE treatments promoted hormonal signaling balance and inhibited angiogenesis in the prostates of aged or HFD-fed aged mice, leading to the maintenance of healthy prostate morphology. A high dose of the PJE (JAGII and HfJAGII groups) led to the best capacity to reduce AR (58.40% and 74.42%; p = 0.0240 and p = 0.0023), ERα (30.29% and 45.12%; p = 0.0004 and p less then 0.0001), aromatase (39.54% and 55.94%; p = 0.0038 and p = 0.0020), and VEGF (50.81% and 67.68%; p less then 0.0001) and increase endostatin immunoexpression. Moreover, HFD intake intensified the hormonal and angiogenic alterations in the aged mouse prostates, contributing to the increase in premalignant lesion incidence. The PJE exerted a dose-dependent positive effect on aged or HFD-fed aged mouse prostates, contributing to the gland microenvironment recovery, mainly due to the hormonal and angiogenic balance. Therefore, we suggest that the PJE can be a potential candidate for prostatic lesion prevention.Organic-inorganic hybrid compounds that undergo reversible dielectric phase transitions are a very attractive class of smart materials due to their wide applications in data storage, data communication and signal sensing. Here, a piperidine ring, C5H11N, was introduced into the inorganic lead halide perovskite scaffold to obtain three hybrid perovskite compounds, [C5H12N]2PbCl4 (1), [C5H12N]2PbBr4 (2), and [C5H12N]PbI3 (3). When compound 2 and compound 3 feature static two-dimensional (2D) and one-dimensional (1D) perovskite structures, respectively, it is striking that compound 1 shows a reversible pentahedral to octahedral transformation. SDZ-RAD It undergoes an above-room-temperature dielectric phase transition at Tc≅ 352 K, wherein the high dielectric constant is more than twice the low dielectric constant. Structural analysis shows that 1 undergoes a phase transition from the space group Pnma at the low temperature phase (LTP) to C2/c at the high temperature phase (HTP). The phase transition originates from the order-disorder conversion of piperidinium cations. It is interesting to note that, the Pb2+ cations in the inorganic moieties change from five-coordinate at the LTP to six-coordinate at the HTP. The discovery of dielectric phase transition hybrid organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite materials further enhances the potential applications of high temperature responsive dielectric switchable materials.Anionic POMs prefer to bond with positive metal cations instead of neutral or negative organic ligands. Therefore, it is challenging to synthesize POM-based MOFs, let alone bi-POM-based host-guest MOFs. In this work, an unprecedented bi-POM-based host-guest MOF, Na[Ni(enMe)2]4[Ni(enMe)2(H2O)2]2[Ni6(μ3-OH)3(enMe)3 (SIP)1.5(B-α-PW9O34)]2[H3PNiW11O40]·5enMe·33H2O (1), with Ni6-capped [PW9O34] as the node of the host framework and Keggin-type [PNiW11O40] units as the guest was synthesized. 1 showed excellent chemical stability towards aqueous solutions of pH 2-12 at both ambient and boiling temperature, providing opportunities for its application in fresh water harvesting from air.Hydroxyl alkylation of indoles by Friedel-Crafts reaction with a carbonyl compound is a useful strategy. However, the reaction was restricted to ketones due to the easy formation of a bisindole byproduct. Therefore, hydroxyl alkylation of an aldehyde with indole is confronted with great challenges. Here, we report an efficient strategy for asymmetric hydroxyl alkylation of 2-substituted indoles with aldehydes under 0.1 mol% chiral phosphoric acid. A series of α-hydroxyl ketones were obtained in high yields (up to 99%) and good enantioselectivities (up to 97%).The determination of trace-amount organotins in plastic food packaging materials is of great significance in food safety. However, due to the complexity of organotins and sample treatment processes, it is still a challenging task. Here, we report a method for the sensitive and simultaneous determination of organotins in plastic food packaging materials and edible oils, by utilizing sheathless capillary electrophoresis-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry. The method of sample pretreatment with ultrasonic extraction and solid phase extraction is used to eliminate interference. The results showed low limits of detection (LODs) of 2 pg mL-1-50 pg mL-1 and excellent inter/intra-day repeatability. Good average recoveries in the range of 80.27% to 108.52% were obtained at three spiked concentrations, with a relative standard deviation less than 8.71%. The successful simultaneous determination of the target analytes will pave the way for further assessment of contamination and migration behaviour of organotins from packaging materials to food, which is of great significance for evaluating and controlling food safety.Herein, we report the photocatalytic decarboxylative alkenylation reactions of N-(acyloxy)phthalimide derived from α-amino and α-hydroxy acids with 1,1-diarylethene, and with cinnamic acid derivatives through double decarboxylation, using sodium iodide and triphenylphosphine as redox catalysts. The reaction proceeds under mild irradiation conditions with visible blue light (440 nm or 456 nm) in an acetone solvent without recourse to transition-metal or organic dye based photoredox catalysts. The reaction proceeds via photoactivation of a transiently self-assembled chromophore from N-(acyloxy)phthalimide and NaI/PPh3. Solvation plays a crucial role in the reactivity.Herein, we firstly present the (K,Bi)(Nb,Yb)O3 inorganic ferroelectric photovoltaic (FPV) film, in which a nearly ideal bandgap of ∼1.45 eV in the center of the solar spectrum and the co-existence of oxygen vacancies as well as ferroelectric polarization were confirmed. Furthermore, a novel cell structure is successfully fabricated by combining charge-transporting TiO2 nanoparticles, the perovskite sensitizer and a light-absorbing oxide hole p-type NiO conductor to realize a 1 V open circuit voltage, which can be increased to 1.56 V by adjusting the test bias near the coercive voltage. Additionally, under simulated standard AM 1.5G illumination, a fill factor of 86% and a power conversion efficiency of 0.85% are achieved via oxygen vacancy electromigration and polarization switching modulation. It is shown that the obtained power conversion efficiency is one to three orders of magnitude higher than those of pure BiFeO3 and Pb(Zr,Ti)O3. The enhanced PV effects are well elucidated using the transformation from a Schottky-like barrier to Ohmic contacts caused by polarization switching and oxygen vacancies. Building upon the above studies, deep insights into the bandgap tunability and PV effects in ferroelectric films with high oxygen vacancy concentration are provided and will facilitate a new versatile route for exploring high PV performance based on inorganic ferroelectric films.A 35-year-old highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-naïve woman diagnosed 2 years earlier presented with complaints of cough, fever and progressive weight loss of 5 months and skin rashes of 2 months. Clinical examination revealed a chronically ill-looking young woman who was wasted and pale, with purplish flat-topped papules and nodules on the skin of her neck, trunk, forearms and thighs. She also had a single lesion on the hard palate. link2 Chest examination shows reduced breath sounds with crepitations. Sputum acid-fast bacilli were positive, and skin biopsy taken for histology confirmed Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). The patient recovered fully on antiretroviral and antituberculosis therapy without the need for any specific chemotherapy for KS. We report this case to elucidate the role of immune reconstitution as a treatment modality for AIDS-related KS, as well as to point out the possibility of multiple opportunistic conditions coexisting amongst patients with advanced HIV disease.Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a rare, severe necrotising infection of the renal parenchyma and surrounding tissues. It is usually life-threatening and should be promptly treated. Here, we report a clinical case of a 54-year-old male who presented with the left flank pains of 3-week duration. The flank pain was described as dull, constant with associated fever. He was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM) while on admission. A clinical diagnosis of the left pyelonephritis was made. The abdominopelvic computed tomography scan confirmed bilateral EPN by showing a thin film of perinephric fluid (13.2 ml) in the left lower pole. He was managed conservatively with fluid therapy, adequate glycaemic control and intravenous antibiotics with no percutaneous drainage done. This highlights the importance of early initiation of appropriate medical treatment to avoid interventional urological procedures of nephrectomy. It also highlights the importance of clinical suspicion of EPN in patients presenting with symptoms of urinary tract infection and DM.Background Antimicrobial resistance, a global problem, is mostly a consequence of misuse or overuse of antimicrobials. This study sought to audit the compliance to hospital antimicrobial policy and determine the ability of medical students to carry out audits. Methodology This was a retrospective study to determine compliance with departmental policies in the preceding 2 months in the Children's Emergency Room (ChER) using a checklist. The primary outcome was to determine the rational use of antibiotics. The secondary outcomes were to determine whether the de-escalation of antibiotic, change from intravenous to oral or change in prescriptions were performed in line with culture results based on the departmental policy. Results The records of 450 children who attended ChER of Lagos University Teaching Hospital in January and February 2018 were retrieved for this study, of which 279 (62.0%) were prescribed antimicrobials. A suspected or confirmed diagnosis of infection was made in 214 (76.6%) of the patients, significantly highest in the infant age group (P = 0.03). Cultures were taken from 94 patients (33.7%), and although not statistically significant, cultures were mostly taken from neonatal patients aged less then 28 days (20/49, 40.8%). Applying the criteria, compliance with departmental guidelines was found in 111 (39.8%) of the cases. Conclusion We found that the use of antimicrobials was judged unnecessary in 17.2% of the patients seen in ChER. There was a poor practice of collecting samples for culture before prescribing antibiotics. link3 Prospective audit and feedback is feasible and it can be done with medical students who will report their findings to consultants and other doctors knowledgeable in principles of antimicrobial therapy.
