Genome-wide linkage analyses regarding non-Hispanic white people identify novel loci for family late-onset Alzheimer's.
tum β-cell functional impairment and insulin resistance to those with moderate hyperglycemia during pregnancy. Hence, with respect to maternal long-term postpartum outcomes, the IADPSG diagnostic criteria for GDM could be appropriate for patients in mainland China. The current study aimed to evaluate the status of anxiety among caregivers of children with epilepsy and examine the associated factors.A cross-sectional study was conducted in western China, which consecutively recruited children with epilepsy in 2018. The self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) was used to assess the status of anxiety among caregivers of children with epilepsy. We collected information about aspects of sociodemographic data, disease status, attitude of caregivers towards the disease and family conditions as independent variables, using multiple linear regression to analyze factors related to the status of anxiety among caregivers.A total of 334 participants were included in the study with a response rate of 95.4% (334/350). The mean age of children with epilepsy was 6.05 ± 4.11 years. 7.2% (24/334) of patients were newly diagnosed and 55.4% (185/334) of patients presented with generalized epilepsy. A total of 25.7% (86/334) of caregivers among children with epilepsy presented the symptom of anxiety, with the scores of SAS 44.31 ± 10.558. SAS scores were negatively correlated with the children's age (B = -0.141; standard error = 0.135; P = .008), attitude towards seizures (B = -0.153; standard error = 1.192; P = .004) and medical expenses payment (B = -0.169; standard error = 1.703; P = .002).Symptoms of anxiety are common among caregivers of children with epilepsy in western China. Dihydroartemisinin research buy Healthcare providers should pay more attention to caregivers with younger children, difficult financial situation, and greater fear of seizures. Exploring mental health interventions for caregivers is important.Type 2 diabetes is the fastest growing metabolic disease in the world. Recently, muscle is considered an endocrine organ which secretes various peptides that play an important role in insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. We assessed 4 different myokines, irisin, interleukin-13 (IL-13), follistatin-related protein-1 (FSTL-1), and fractalkine, in normal, prediabetes, and diabetes patients.A total of 126 participants who visited Gangnam Severance Hospital were enrolled and divided into normal, prediabetes, and diabetes groups based on oral glucose tolerance test and hemoglobin a1c. A cross-sectional study was conducted to measure and compare serum levels of irisin, IL-13, FSTL-1, and fractalkine among the groups.Irisin level showed a tendency to increase in prediabetes group compared to normal group (P  less then  .1) but showed a significant decrease when comparing diabetes from prediabetes group (P  less then  .001). IL-13 decreased in diabetes group compared to prediabetes and normal group (P  less then  .001, P  less then  .05, respectively). FSTL-1 of diabetes group was lower than that of prediabetes group (P  less then  .05), and fractalkine was higher in diabetes group compared to that of prediabetes and normal group (P  less then  .01, P  less then  .01, respectively).Irisin, IL-13, and FSTL-1 levels were reduced in diabetes group compared to normal or prediabetes group while fractalkine showed a progressive increase from normal to diabetes group. Further studies are warranted to study the roles of various myokine in diabetes through a larger prospective study.BACKGROUND No previous systematic review has examined the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) interventions on body composition, cardiometabolic risk factors and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in healthy schoolchildren from 5 to 12 years old. METHODS This study will be conducted by following the guideline of the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis protocols. An electronic search in MEDLINE (via PubMed), EMBASE (via Scopus), SPORTDiscus, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases of all dates from inception will be conducted. We will include randomized controlled trials aimed to assess the effectiveness of HIIT to improve cardiometabolic risk factors, body composition, and CRF in children. Two authors will perform the study selection and data collection; disagreements will be solved by a third reviewer. The methodological quality of studies will be assessed by the Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias (RoB2). Data analysis and synthesis will be performed by Comprehensive Meta-analysis Software and StataSE software, version 15. CONCLUSION The results should be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Since the data used in systematic reviews of this type will be extracted exclusively from published studies, approval form and ethics committee will not be required.BACKGROUND Mild neurocognitive disorder (mNCD) is one of the degenerative diseases that results in memory deficit, and can progress to dementia. The effectiveness of drug therapy for mNCD is still debatable, but treatment of this disease has important implications for postponing or preventing dementia. Jujadokseo-hwan (JDH) is a traditional herbal medicine formulation that exhibits improvement in cognitive abilities and neuroprotective effects. In this study, we will evaluate the safety and efficacy of JDH compared to placebo in mNCD patients. METHODS AND DESIGN This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter clinical trial. After obtaining informed consent from all participants and performing the screening process, the participants will be equally divided into an experimental group and a control group. Each participant will visit the trial center 7 times during the 12 weeks of intervention. The follow up study will be conducted 12 weeks after the intervention ends. The pri and lead to further research on herbal medicine treatments for mNCD. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER KCT0003570 (Registered in Clinical Research Information Service of the Republic of Korea, https//cris.nih.go.kr/cris/search/search_result_st01.jsp?seq=12669).OBJECTIVES The aim of this meta-analysis is to investigate the comparative efficacy between supervised- and home-based programs in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). METHOD A systematic search in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library was electronically performed by 2 independent investigators in order to capture all potential studies comparing supervised- with home-based in patients with AS from inception to April 2018. After extracted essential information, apprised risk of bias, statistical analysis was performed with Review Manager (RevMan) software (version 5.3.0). The protocol was registered at PROSPERO platform with an identifier of CRD42018097046. link2 RESULTS A total of 7 studies comprising 271 patients were included finally. Meta-analyses showed that, compared to home-based program, supervised-based program was associated with reduced bath ankylosing spondylitis metrology index (BASMI) scores (mean difference [MD], -0.45; 95% confidence interval [CI], -0.73, -0.17), bath ankylosing spondylitis disease activity index (BASDAI) scores (MD, -0.48; 95% CI, -0.88, -0.08), and bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index (BASFI) scores (MD, -0.78; 95% CI, -1.19, -0.37). However, depression scores (standard mean difference, -0.22; 95% CI, -0.58, 0.14) between the 2 groups showed no significant defference. CONCLUSIONS Both supervised- and home-based programs can benefit to reduce BASMI, BASDAI, and BASFI scores in AS patients. However, short-term, supervised exercise program may be more effective than home-based exercises at decreasing disease activity with AS.We investigated the effect of the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and peritoneal dissemination derived from F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging on prognosis in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. We retrospectively analyzed 145 patients with suspected recurrent ovarian cancer who had undergone F-FDG PET/CT scans after cytoreductive surgery and chemotherapy. The degree of peritoneal spread was classified as localized (1-3 FDG foci) or diffuse (>3 FDG foci). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the cut-off values for predicting recurrence.A total of 145 patients were retrospectively reviewed in this study. 29 patients were excluded as their follow-up results were not available. One hundred sixteen patients were included in the final analysis. The median duration of progression-free survival was 14 months. link3 F-FDG PET/CT detected peritoneal carcinomatosis in 82 patients. With a cut-off SUVmax of 2.0 obtained from the ROC curve analysis, the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of SUVmax of peritoneal carcinomatosis for predicting recurrence were 77.6%, 87.5%, 65.1%, 97.4%, and 38.9%, respectively. The area under the curve was 0.85. In a multivariate analysis, significant independent prognostic variables were SUVmax of peritoneal disease, peritoneal dissemination, and CA125 levels. In patients with peritoneal involvement, the Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed significantly longer PFS in those with localized disease.SUVmax of peritoneal disease is valuable in predicting the recurrence of ovarian cancer. SUVmax of peritoneal disease, peritoneal dissemination and CA125 level could be used as independent prognostic factors for ovarian cancer patients.Lateral epicondylitis (LE) is a common musculoskeletal disorder for which an effective treatment strategy remains unknown. The goal of this study is to examine whether acupuncture is more effective than injection of glucocorticoid in adults with LE.Adults with LE received either acupuncture or injection of glucocorticoid were followed-up for 6 months. All patients assessed before treatment, 0, 3 months, and 6 months after the therapy. Outcome measures consisted of visual analog scores (VAS) and the Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS).The acupuncture group and the corticosteroid group did not differ on demographic or clinical characteristics (P  .05). There were no complications related to the use of acupuncture or corticosteroid injection. We found that both methods were effective for external humeral epicondylitis. However, after 6 months of treatment, patients with chronic LE with acupuncture achieved pain relief and function improve significantly, exceeding the effect of corticosteroid injection.Treatment options for recurrent glioblastoma are rare, with their response uncertain. This study aimed to determine the response of chemotherapy including bevacizumab in combination with vincristine and carboplatin for glioblastoma at first recurrence in a single-institution cohort.Clinical data of patients who received chemotherapy including bevacizumab, vincristine, and low-dose carboplatin for recurrent glioblastoma between 2008 and 2014 were analyzed. Differences between those who received combination chemotherapy (chemotherapy-positive) and those who did not (chemotherapy-negative) were estimated by Fisher exact test or Wilcoxon rank-sum test, as appropriate. Survival curves were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and differences between survival curves were estimated by the log-rank test. Univariate analysis of treatment response for all recurrent glioblastoma patients and secondary recurrence patients under different conditions were evaluated using Wilcoxon rank-sum test or the Kruskal-Wallis test.
