trategies focusing on pregnancy.
High maternal prenatal adherence to a Healthy dietary pattern was negatively related to anxiety and depression symptoms in children. As maternal diet is a key lifestyle factor, further research should investigate its association with subsequent offspring anxiety and depression symptoms in aiming to later inform prevention strategies focusing on pregnancy.
To compare the efficacy of orthodontic tooth movement with three aligner wear protocols 7 day, 10 day, and 14 day.
Eighty patients were randomly allocated into three groups group A (7-day changes), group B (10-day changes), and group C (14-day changes). The posttreatment scans were compared with the final virtual treatment simulations through digital superimposition. The differences between predicted and actual achieved treatment outcomes were computed in six angular and six linear dimensions. Differences >0.5 mm for linear measurements and >2° for angular measurements were considered clinically relevant.
Within groups, and irrespective of wear protocol, all linear discrepancies in both jaws were deemed clinically insignificant (<0.5 mm) while nearly all angular discrepancies were considered clinically significant (>2.0°). When the three groups were compared, group C (14-day changes) showed significantly greater accuracy in the posterior segment for maxillary intrusion, distal-crown tip and buccal-crown torque, and mandibular intrusion and extrusion. The mean treatment duration in the 7-day aligner change group was nearly half that of the 14-day aligner change group (5 months vs 9 months).
Fourteen-day changes were statistically significantly more accurate in some posterior movements. However, this difference in accuracy did not exceed the threshold for clinical significance (>0.5 mm/>2.0°). Achieving a clinically similar accuracy between the 7-day protocol and 14-day protocol in half the treatment time suggests a 7-day protocol as an acceptable treatment protocol. Clinicians may consider slowing down to a 14-day protocol if challenging posterior movements are desired.

Recently, interferometric scattering (iSCAT) microscopy has demonstrated the detection and imaging of single biomolecules based on light scattering without the need for fluorescent labels. Significant improvements in measurement sensitivity combined with a dependence of scattering signal on object size have led to the development of mass photometry, a technique that measures the mass of individual molecules and thereby determines mass distributions of biomolecule samples in solution. The experimental simplicity of mass photometry makes it a powerful tool to analyse biomolecular equilibria quantitatively with low sample consumption within minutes. When used for label-free imaging of reconstituted or cellular systems, the strict size-dependence of the iSCAT signal enables quantitative measurements of processes at size scales reaching from single-molecule observations during complex assembly up to mesoscopic dynamics of cellular components and extracellular protrusions. In this review, I would like to introduce the principles of this emerging imaging technology and discuss examples that show how mass-sensitive iSCAT can be used as a strong complement to other routine techniques in biochemistry.
Oats are a whole grain cereal with potentially favorable effects on the postprandial glycemic response; however, the effects of oat processing on these glycemic benefits are not well understood.
The study objective was to determine the effects of differently processed oats on the postprandial blood glucose and insulin responses relative to refined grains.
Eleven electronic databases were systematically searched to identify studies published up to and including May 2019. Randomized controlled trials comparing the postprandial blood glucose and insulin responses to oats compared with any refined grain were included, so long as the available carbohydrate content of the test meals was similar. Pooled effect sizes were computed using the difference in incremental area under the curves for blood glucose and insulin following the consumption of oats compared with the refined grain control.
Ten publications were included, with intact oat kernels studied in 3 comparisons, thick oat flakes (>0.6 mm) in 7 comthe glycemic benefits of oats.
Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder, and a major cause of disability. Levodopa, a prodrug of dopamine, remains the gold standard in the pharmacological management of Parkinson's disease. Despite several attempts to improve the clinical efficacy of levodopa, new oral levodopa formulations are needed to overcome irregular absorption and variable plasma concentrations.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo kinetic properties of chitosan-coated hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose microparticles of levodopa (and carbidopa).
Microparticles were formulated by encapsulating levodopa powder in chitosan-coated hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose using the spray-drying method. Levodopa microparticles were evaluated for size, zeta potential, drug loading capacity, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro release. In evaluating in vivo pharmacokinetics, Sprague Dawley rats were administered either levodopa/carbidopa powder, levodopa/carbidopa microparticles, or Sinemet CR (a controlled rele levodopa/carbidopa microparticles had greater AUC (612.7 [17.42] ng.h/mL) and higher C
(262.4 [38.86] ng/mL) compared with Sinemet CR AUC 354.7 (98.09) ng.h/mL and C
95.5 (20.87) ng/mL. However, Sinemet CR had a much longer half-life (6.1 [2.58] hours) compared with levodopa/carbidopa microparticles (2.0 [0.31] hours).
Findings from this study suggest that chitosan-coated hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose microparticles of levodopa/carbidopa may give relatively high levels of levodopa in circulation. (

Inhalers are the mainstay of treatment for patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, incorrect inhaler technique is a considerable challenge.
We aimed to evaluate inhaler technique and its association with quality of life in a sample of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
This cross-sectional study included patients with confirmed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who were prescribed at least 1 inhaler medication on a regular basis. Patients were recruited from the outpatient pulmonary clinic of a hospital in Tehran. Inhaler technique was assessed according to a validated checklist. Patients' quality of life was evaluated using Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Assessment Test.
One hundred seventy-five patients with mean (SD) age of 59.0 (10.1) years were included. Patients' devices were 192 (62.3%) pressurized metered-dose inhalers (including pressurized metered-dose inhalers plus spacer) and 116 (37.7%) dry powder inhalers. Unfortunately, only 2ate inhaler technique is associated with better quality of life. (Curr Ther Res Clin Exp. 2020; 81XXX-XXX).
Adverse drug events (ADEs) are common complications of clinical care resulting in significant morbidity, mortality, and high clinical expenditure. Population-level estimates of inpatient ADEs are limited in Ethiopia.
This study aimed to assess the incidence, contributing factors, severity, and preventability of ADEs among hospitalized adult patients at Jimma Medical Center, Ethiopia.
A prospective observational study design was conducted among hospitalized adult patients at tertiary hospital in Ethiopia. A structured data collection tool was prepared from relevant literatures for data collection. Data were analyzed using statistical software. Logistic regression was performed to identify factors contributing to ADE occurrence.
values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant.
A total of 319 patients were included with follow-up period of 5667 person-days. About 50.5% were women. The mean (SD) age of patients was 43 (17.6) years. One hundred sixteen ADEs were identified with the incidence t ADEs were moderate in severity. About two-thirds of the ADEs identified were deemed probably or definitely preventable. Therefore, it is high time to reinforce large-scale efforts to redesign safer, higher quality health care systems to adequately tackle the problem.
A previous multi-site study involving lower- and middle-income countries demonstrated that asthma in older adults is associated with long-term exposure to particulate matter, male gender and smoking. However, variations may occur within individual countries, which are relevant to inform health promoting policies as populations live longer. The present study estimates asthma prevalence and examines the sociodemographic characteristics and environmental determinants associated with asthma in older adults in Ghana.
This study utilised data from the nationally representative World Health Organization Study on global AGEing and adult health (SAGE) Ghana Wave 2. A final sample of 4621 individuals residing in 3970 households was used in analytical modelling. Factors associated with asthma were investigated using single level and multilevel binary logistic regression models.
Asthma was reported by 102 (2.2%) respondents. Factors associated with asthma in the univariate model were those aged 60-69 (OR = 5.22, 95vey. Clinical management of these patients in health facilities should consider household factors in addition to individual level factors.
Individual as well as household factors were seen to influence the prevalence of asthma in this national survey. Clinical management of these patients in health facilities should consider household factors in addition to individual level factors.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0235637.].[This corrects the article DOI 10.1371/journal.pone.0196307.].Groups of animals coordinate remarkable, coherent, movement patterns during periods of collective motion. Such movement patterns include the toroidal mills seen in fish shoals, highly aligned parallel motion like that of flocks of migrating birds, and the swarming of insects. Since the 1970's a wide range of collective motion models have been studied that prescribe rules of interaction between individuals, and that are capable of generating emergent patterns that are visually similar to those seen in real animal group. This does not necessarily mean that real animals apply exactly the same interactions as those prescribed in models. In more recent work, researchers have sought to infer the rules of interaction of real animals directly from tracking data, by using a number of techniques, including averaging methods. In one of the simplest formulations, the averaging methods determine the mean changes in the components of the velocity of an individual over time as a function of the relative coordinates of group mates.
