es, and the number of males is more than females. The irregular antibodies detected are mainly attributed to Rh system. The peak value of bilirubin in non ABO-HDN patients is higher and lasts longer than that in ABO-HDN patients. Direct antiglobulin test may be used to roughly distinguish ABO-HDN from non ABO-HDN.
To explore the clinical application of screening cell combination method in the prediction of red blood cell alloantibody, so as to provide basis for clinical diagnosis.

From October 2018 to April 2020, 9 680 samples were screened with automatic blood group instrument, 79 patients with positive alloantibodies were identified by 4 sets of screening cells from different manufacturers (referred to as combined method). At the same time, cell panel Panocell-16 was used for comparative analysis. Meanwhile, the combined method was also used to identify the antibodies of 20 samples from National Center for Clinical Laboratories external quality assessment (EQA) in China and 12 samples from WHO EQA.

The 79 alloantibodies included anti-Mia antibody (7 cases), anti-M antibody (13 cases), anti-Le
antibody (9 cases), anti-P1 antibody (2 cases), anti-E antibody (22 cases), anti-c + E antibody (9 cases), anti-D antibody (4 cases), anti-e antibody (2 cases), anti-C + e antibody (3 cases), anti-C antibody (3 cases), anti-H antibody (1 case), anti-Fy
antibody (1 case), anti-E + M antibody (1 case), autoantibody + anti-E (2 cases). However, 7 cases of anti-Mia antibody and 1 case of anti- Le
antibody were missed in Panocell-16 identification results. The results of antibody identification in 20 samples from National Center for Clinical Laboratories EQA in China and 12 samples from WHO EQA were 100% accurate by combination method. The identification results between combined method identification and Panocell-16 identification showed no significant difference.

The combined method can identify the alloantibodies of red blood cells in Chinese population. The screening cells can be used for screening of irregular antibodies without wasting reagents at the same time.

To observe the effect of astaxanthin (ASTA) on the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in suspended leukocyte-depleted red blood cells stored for transfusion.

The suspended leukocyte-depleted red blood cells were randomly divided into group A, B, C and D. The ASTA was added into preservation solution of suspended leukocyte-depleted red blood cells of group B, C and D with the final concentration 5, 10 and 20 μmol/L, respectively, while DMSO was added into cells of group A in the same volume. After 7, 14, 28 and 42 days of storage, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) content in red blood cells was detected by fluorescence microplate reader, malondialdehyde (MDA) content was detected by thiobarbituric acid (TBA) method, activity of SOD was detected by xanthine oxidase method, the activity of CAT was detected by visible light method, and activity of GSH-Px was detected by colorimetry.

After 7, 14, 28 and 42 days of storage, the contents of ROS and MDA in suspended red blood cells of group B, C and D were significantly lower(P<0.05), while the activities of SOD and GSH-Px were higher than those of group A(P<0.05); and CAT activity in cells treated by ASTA was significantly higher at 28 and 42 days of storage in comparison with that of group A(P<0.05). There were positive correlations between the ROS, MDA content in suspended red blood cells of group A, B, C, D and storage time(P<0.01), while negative correlation between SOD, CAT, GSH-Px activity and storage time(P<0.01).

ASTA can decrease the oxidative stress level and peroxide damage degree by increasing the antioxidant enzyme activities in suspended leukocyte-depleted red blood cells during storage.

To investigate the prevalence of human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) type-I/II infection among voluntary blood donors in Jiangsu (Nanjing, Suzhou, Xuzhou).

From 2016 to 2019, 408 262 samples of voluntary blood donors from four blood stations in Jiangsu Province (Jiangsu Province Blood Center, Nanjing Red Cross Blood Center, Suzhou Central Blood Station, and Xuzhou Central Blood Station) were screened for HTLV-I/II antibody by ELISA. The positive samples were sent to National Center for Clinical Laboratories for confirmation by RT-PCR and Western blot.

The positive rate of HTLV-I/II screened by ELISA was 0.20‰ (82/408 262), and three HTLV-I positive samples were confirmed. The prevalence of HTLV-1 infection was 0.74 per 100 000 (3/408 262). All three donors were female repeated blood donors of childbearing ages.

Jiangsu is a low prevalence area of HTLV, and a reasonable blood screening strategy for HTLV can further reduce the risk of transfusion-transmitted virus infection.
