Many people are experiencing psychological disorders due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 disease. The present study aimed to investigate the psychosocial status of the Iranian citizens during the prevalence of COVID-19. One thousand one hundred and sixteen citizens of Rafsanjan city participated in the cross-sectional study from March 15 to 30, 2020. The data were collected using demographic and COVID-19 related-items, and Health General Questionnaire (GHQ -28). The results showed that 35% of the participant had mental health problems. All participants had social functioning disorder, while 22.8% had physical symptoms, 26.8 had anxiety symptoms and sleep disorders. In addition, the risk of psychosocial disorder was higher in females, those who were living in the city, earning less than 1 million, thinking of being at risk for infection with the coronavirus, and those whose most important concern about COVID-19 was death (P less then 0.05). The results of the present study showed that all participants had social dysfunction. Therefore, health-care providers are suggested to evaluate the psychosocial consequences routinely, design and implement appropriate interventions to deal with these complications.The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of cancer coping and healthcare professionals' support on posttraumatic growth in patients with brain tumors. A cross-sectional, correlational design was used, in which a structured questionnaire was administered to 114 patients at a tertiary university hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test or one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Cancer coping (r = .33, p less then .001) and healthcare professionals' support (r = .28, p = .002) correlated with posttraumatic growth. Among predictors, primary caregivers (brothers and sisters; β = .28), interpersonal coping (β = .26), and healthcare professionals' support (β = .20) had statistically significant influences on posttraumatic growth. The regression model explained approximately 22.0% of posttraumatic growth. These results contribute to cancer coping and healthcare professionals' support to significantly influence posttraumatic growth.The COVID-19 related high morbidity and mortality have led to a common fear and anxiety. This study aimed to determine the state/trait and death anxiety levels of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and COVID-19 pneumonia. The study was conducted at the emergency department of a tertiary hospital in Central Anatolia of Turkey. 120 patients with myocardial infarction , 120 patients with COVID-19 pneumonia, and 120 healthy volunteers as a control group were included in the study. The participants filled out the questionnaire that included the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Thorson-Powell's Revised Death Anxiety Scale (RDAS). All scores of patient groups were significantly higher than the control group. There was no significant difference in terms of STAI-S, STAI-T, and RDAS scores between COVID-19 pneumonia and MI groups. The anxiety risk increased 2.14-fold for STAI-T and 1.97-fold for STAI-S in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia compared to the control group. In this study, the state/trait and death anxiety levels of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia were as high as patients with myocardial infarction.COVID-19 pneumonia-related anxiety was associated with chronic diseases and smoking. Knowing the level of anxiety in these patients is important to provide better health services in the emergency departments.Stress management interventions (SMIs) can alleviate the psychosocial stress often experienced by women with heart failure. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to summarize women's participation rates, and predictors of participation, in SMIs for the management of psychosocial distress in women with chronic HF. Studies were retrieved from bibliographic databases, reference sections of relevant papers, and research registries. Included studies (a) evaluated a SMI approach for the management of chronic HF, (b) sampled chronic HF patients, and (c) used a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design. Independent coders extracted the relevant data. Thirty-five RCTs met inclusion criteria (N = 3,649; mean age = 63.5 ± 7.0 years). All studies sampled both men and women; the mean proportion of women who participated in the trials was 38.8% (95% confidence interval [CI] = 34.5-43.4; I2 = 82.4, 95% CI = 81.0-83.6). Women's participation rates were higher in studies sampling more HF patients with hypertension (B = 1.01, SE = 0.45, P = .046) but fewer HF patients prescribed beta blockers (B = -1.10, SE = 0.33, P = .006), F (2,12) = 6.27, P = 0.014, adjusted R2 = 61%. SMIs may offer women a complementary or integrative approach to standard treatment to help manage the psychological distress associated with HF. Future research should explore the potential benefits of offering stress management approaches to women as part of comprehensive HF care.All healthcare workers (HCWs) encounter stress during in their working lives, and are constantly exposed to adverse conditions. The present study evaluates the relationship between burnout syndrome, anxiety levels and insomnia severity among healthcare workers, who mostly work in shifts. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Insomnia Severity Index and the Beck Anxiety Inventory were used to measure burnout, insomnia severity and anxiety status, respectively. This cross sectional study included a total of 1,011 HCWs and 679 (67.2%) of the study respondents were women. The respondents were aged 20-72, with a mean age of 35.67 ± 8.61 years. Fifty-eight percent (n = 589) of the participants were rotating shift workers. Working on-call led to a significant difference in all burnout parameters (for each, less then 0.001). Age and on-call duty were seen to lead to a significant difference in the severity of insomnia (p = 0.028, p less then 0.001, respectively). The total ISI score was found to be statistically significant positively correlated with the MBI subscales and the total BAI score (for each, less then 0.001). An increased awareness of the impact of sleep deprivation, burnout and anxiety among HCWs and meaningful interventions promoting change within the healthcare system are needed.Evidence suggests that people with facial palsy may experience higher levels of distress, but the reasons for this are yet to be explored. This study aimed to explore people's illness beliefs, emotions, and behaviours in relation to their facial palsy and understand how distress is experienced by this group. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted in the UK with adults with facial palsy. Interview questions were theoretically informed by the Common-Sense Self-Regulatory Model (CS-SRM). Thematic Analysis was conducted following a combined inductive and deductive approach. Twenty people with facial palsy participated (70% female; aged 29-84). Patient distress was accounted for by illness beliefs (symptoms, cause, control and treatment, timeline and consequences), and four additional themes (coping behaviours, social support, identity and health service provision). Experiences of anxiety, depression, and anger were widespread, and some participants experienced suicidal ideation. The burden of managing a long-term condition, altered self-perception, and social anxiety and isolation were key drivers of distress. There is a need for more integrated psychological support for patients with facial palsy. Within clinical consultations, patient's beliefs about facial palsy should be identified and systematically addressed. Service development should include appropriate referral to specialist psychological support via an established care pathway.Exposure to traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) may contribute to increased prevalence of hypertension and elevated blood pressure (BP) for residents of near-highway neighborhoods. Relatively few studies have investigated the effects of reducing TRAP exposure on short-term changes in BP. We assessed whether reducing indoor TRAP concentrations by using stand-alone high-efficiency particulate arrestance (HEPA) filters and limiting infiltration through doors and windows effectively prevented acute (ie, over a span of hours) increases in BP. Using a 3-period crossover design, 77 participants were randomized to attend three 2-hour-long exposure sessions separated by 1-week washout periods. Each participant was exposed to high, medium, and low TRAP concentrations in a room near an interstate highway. Particle number concentrations, black carbon concentrations, and temperature were monitored continuously. Systolic BP (SBP), diastolic BP, and heart rate were measured every 10 minutes. Outcomes were analyzed with a linear mixed model. The primary outcome was the change in SBP from 20 minutes from the start of exposure. SBP increased with exposure duration, and the amount of increase was related to the magnitude of exposure. The mean change in SBP was 0.6 mm Hg for low exposure (mean particle number and black carbon concentrations, 2500 particles/cm3 and 149 ng/m3), 1.3 mm Hg for medium exposure (mean particle number and black carbon concentrations, 11 000 particles/cm3 and 409 ng/m3), and 2.8 mm Hg for high exposure (mean particle number and black carbon concentrations, 30 000 particles/cm3 and 826 ng/m3; linear trend P=0.019). There were no statistically significant differences in the secondary outcomes, diastolic BP, or heart rate. In conclusion, reducing indoor concentrations of TRAP was effective in preventing acute increases in SBP.Transient ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibition in spontaneously hypertensive rats is known to protect against future injury-induced cardiac inflammation, fibrosis, and dysfunction; however, the mechanisms of protection have not been delineated. Here, we used single-cell RNA sequencing to test the hypothesis that transient ACE inhibitor treatment would induce a persistent shift in cardiac fibroblast subpopulations. Adult male spontaneously hypertensive rats (11 weeks old, hypertensive with cardiac hypertrophy) were treated for 2 weeks with an ACE inhibitor, enalapril (30 mg/kg per day, PO), or water (untreated spontaneously hypertensive rats) followed by a 2-week washout period (n=7/group). Cardiac fibroblasts were isolated from the left ventricle and subjected to single-cell RNA sequencing. Nine clusters of fibroblasts were identified, with 98% of cells in clusters 0 to 6. The transient treatment produced significant changes both within and across clusters. Cluster 1 depicted a highly fibrogenic gene profile, with cluster 6 serving as a gateway to cluster 1. Transient ACE inhibition depleted the gateway and expanded cluster 0, which was the least fibrogenic profile. Moreover, within cluster 1 fibroblasts, ACE inhibition reduced expression of individual fibrosis genes (eg, COL1A1, COL3A1, and FN1; all P less then 1×10-35). Clusters 2 to 5 reflected proliferative, moderately fibrogenic, translationally active, and less inflammatory subsets of fibroblasts, all of which exhibited attenuated fibrogenic gene expression after transient ACE inhibition. In conclusion, transient ACE inhibition shifts cardiac fibroblast subpopulations and degree of activation resulting in an overall reduced fibrogenic phenotype.
