These events that occur cause hormones to run through the body and create responses like the fight or flight response due to the adrenaline rushing through the body. Anxiety is a feeling of worry or tension due to certain situations. People that feel anxiety typically have worried thoughts and have an increase in blood pressure due to concerns in certain situations. We have yet to link that stress directly is affected by genes but as humans we inherit traits from parents or others through nature and nurture. We grow up around these similar stressful triggers and learn to fear the same things. Although we haven’t linked genetics directly to stress we have linked diseases like heart disease and cancer to genetics and these might be our way of connecting these directly.
Stressors haven’t really changed much throughout the centuries. Our ancestors once had to deal with the stressors of becoming the prey of larger animals. Nowadays we have similar stressors in daily life like, meeting with a boss, or paying bills, daily tests on our hormones. In both time periods we have had the fight or flight response and are a response to stressful situations.
It isn't possible to live a stress free life. Everyone has stressful moments just some people deal with stress better than others. There is always stress in our lives both good and bad. We have positive stresses like overcoming a fear, it stresses you in the beginning but the end result is rewarding. We also have negative responses like test taking, one can talk themselves into not doing well on a test because of the lack of confidence and stress they are feeling.
An increased amount of stress on the body over a long period of time can have damaging effects on the body. It can cause anxiety, depression,heart disease, sleeping problems, weight gain, and memory impairment. Men and women deal with stress in very different ways due to the difference in hormones affected by stress. Five ways of reducing stress are meditation, exercise, reduce intake of caffeine, get enough sleep, and maintain a healthy diet. Five ways of reducing anxiety are to breathe, leave time for yourself, sleep, exercise, and prepare properly.
