Intelligent packaging with a pH indicator has been a hot research topic due to its extra active role compared with traditional ones. Considering the possible toxicity of synthetic pH sensitive pigments, natural pigments are promising alternative indicators. This work aimed to develop and characterize active and pH sensitive films based on psyllium seed gum (PSG) incorporated with free and microencapsulated mulberry pomace extracts (MPE). Compared with PSG control film, PSG-MPE films showed an increase in total phenolic content and DPPH scavenging activity, and decrease in surface hydrophobicity, lightness, and tensile strength. The molecular interactions between PSG and MPE were confirmed by thermal and microstructure analysis. Moreover, PSG-MPE films displayed wide color differences from red to blue at pH 2.0 - 12.0. PSG-based films containing 10% free and microencapsulated MPE demonstrated better overall performance and economy in packaging applications, which could be used as promising active and pH-sensitive food packaging materials.The research aimed to study the effect of stevia, xylitol, and corn syrup on the physical, physicochemical, and sensory properties of velvet tamarind chewy candy (VTCC). The content of sweeteners was optimized using stevia (5.5-6%), xylitol (5.5-6%), and corn syrup (7.5-8.5%) by mixture design (d-optimal) with 3 centerpoints and response surface methodology (RSM). The sweeteners in optimized VTCC consisted of velvet tamarind powder (40.5%), water (40%), stevia (6%), xylitol (6%), and corn syrup (7.5%) which provided the approximation error between prediction and observation values of color (a* and b*), hardness, adhesiveness, gumminess, bioactive activities, and sensory properties within the range of 0.07-9.69%. The optimized VTCC using stevia and xylitol can reduce the sugar content by up to 60%. The sensory preference scores of VTCC from consumer acceptance were slightly like (6.1-6.9) which indicated that the VTCC with stevia and xylitol can provide satisfaction in all evaluated attributes and can be applied to this concept to create fruit chewy candy using stevia and xylitol.

Mediastinal hemangiomas are a rare entity frequently developing in the anterior mediastinum. They may exhibit an infiltrating appearance into the surrounding tissue, and extensive surgery is often required despite its benign nature. We report a case of a mediastinal hemangioma mimicking an invasive tumor growth requiring a combined resection of the lung and diaphragm.

An asymptomatic 73 year-old-man presented with a 50 mm-sized mass on his chest radiography. A combined resection of the mediastinal mass with the part of the lower lobe of left lung and diaphragm not necessitating a patch repair was performed. The pathological findings were compatible with a diagnosis of a mediastinal hemangioma. Only fibrous adhesions were observed between the tumor and resected lung and diaphragm without any histological invasion.

While imaging examinations play a key role in determining a preoperative diagnosis, mediastinal hemangiomas may pose a diagnostic challenge mainly due to its rarity. With a clinical suspicion of a hemangioma during the diagnostic work up, a dynamic CT might be helpful.

During a duodenopancreatectomy for a pancreatic head tumor in a 46-year-old man, we observed an anatomical variation regarding the course of the right hepatic artery (RHA). Indeed, RHA arose from the proper hepatic artery (PHA) at the left edge of the hepatoduodenal ligament and instead of crossing the common hepatic duct (CHD) posteriorly which is the usual course, it passed overhead before ascending and finishing its course in the liver hilum.

A prebiliary course of the RHA has been described with a prevalence ranging from 15 to 25% depending on series. Dislocation is a severe complication after total hip arthroplasty (THA). It is one of the most common reasons for failure and revision surgery. This is the first case of a documented simultaneous bilateral dual mobility (DM) THA dislocation.

A forty-nine-year-old man presented with bilateral hip pain, immobility and deformity. X-ray images demonstrated simultaneous bilateral posterior THA dislocation. Previously, the patient had presented atraumatic dislocations recurrently. When he was thoroughly re-interrogated, he complained of uncontrolled and generalized muscle contractions, which were compatible with myoclonus due to hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Multidisciplinary treatment was performed satisfactorily to control myoclonus symptomatology and to prevent dislocation.

Temperature was varied from 125 to 185 °C at a constant flow rate of 4 mL/min. Biomass hydrolysis yielded a maximum of 78% of solubilized protein at 185 °C. Free amino acids presented a maximum level at 160 °C with a value of 55 mg free amino acids/gprotein-BSG. Polar amino acid presented a maximum at lower temperatures than non-polar amino acids. Compound 2 (46.29 ± 0.53 (g/100 g)-1 h-1), and to a lesser extent compound 3 (5.94 ± 0.01 (g/100 g)-1 h-1) were the most thermo-unstable compounds when treated at 135 °C without added acids. Even though differential effects were observed for compounds at different temperatures and formulations, overall, the phenolic compounds were most stable under UHT pasteurisation conditions.
