What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?
Contrary to older keys car keys are equipped with specific chips that are unique to each vehicle. This prevents thieves from simply taking the key and starting the car.
The keys are usually purchased from a dealership or cloned by a locksmith. The method of programming the key varies by manufacturer and involves turning the key to the off position without starting the engine, then removing it within a predetermined time period.
Transponder Codes
As its name suggests, a transponder sends out an encoded signal containing a four-digit number code when it is being questioned by air traffic control. This signal is known as an SQUAWK code and forms the basis of identification of aircraft on radar screens. It is also used to transmit an exact message to the air traffic control system in a crisis or to notify controllers to changes in weather conditions. Squawk codes are often used to communicate with ATC in situations where pilots are unable to talk on the radio and are very important to ensure safe flying.
Every aircraft has a transponder, which responds to radar interrogation by displaying an identifier. This enables ATC to locate the aircraft on a radar screen that is busy. Transponders have several different modes that differ in how they respond to questions. Mode A transmits the code only, while mode C includes data on altitude. Mode S transponders send more specific information, including callsigns and position. This can be useful in airspace that is crowded.

If this occurs, the vehicle's immobilizer will be turned off and the car will not start until a new key is used. PIN Codes
A PIN code is a collection of numbers (usually between four and six digits) that are used to access an item, system, or service. For instance, a smart phone has a code that the user sets when they first purchase the device and must enter each time they want to use it. PIN codes are also used to safeguard ATM or POS transactions,[1 secure access control (doors computers, doors, cars),[2] computer systems,[3] and internet transactions.
Even though a longer password may appear to be more secure than a shorter one, it's still possible to hack or guess the 4-digit PIN. It is recommended that a PIN must be at minimum six digits long, with the combination of letters and numbers to ensure greater security. Some OEMs also require PIN codes for the aftermarket key programmer, as a security measure to prevent unauthorised users from stealing data from the modules.
VIN Numbers
VIN numbers can be used to identify vehicles and provide a wealth information about them. VIN numbers are unique to every vehicle on earth and are not applicable to alien vehicles (or whatever). The 17 digits of the VIN code are a mixture of numbers and letters that can be decoded to reveal vital information regarding your vehicle or truck.

For example, the first digit gets an eight value; then each subsequent digit increases by one until it reaches nine at seventh digit, and then transforms into two. Then the entire VIN will be translated back to its original form, by multiplying each weight by 11. If the result is equivalent to the check number, then the VIN is valid.
