To inform an inclusive, safe, and holistic approach, more research is needed regarding the possible integration of psilocybin therapy within palliative care for the treatment of existential distress. While several competency frameworks have been proposed for Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) practitioners, these are not commonly based on structured analyses. The aim of this research was to develop a sociotechnical systems model of the HFE practitioner role in Australia and identify the competencies required to fulfil the role. Study One applied the Work Domain Analysis phase of cognitive work analysis (CWA) to model the HFE practitioner role. Model refinement was undertaken with seven subject matter experts. In Study Two, the model was used to elicit the competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, other characteristics) required for successful performance, via a survey of 28 HFE practitioners. Most competencies related to skills (i.e. communication skills) and knowledge (i.e. domain knowledge). Gaps in competencies were also identified, linked to a lack of HFE education pathways in Australia. The findings have practical utility for designing HFE practitioner roles and educational programs. Practitioner summary Cognitive work analysis provided a structured analysis of the role of the Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) practitioner and to support the identification of competencies. The results suggest that HFE practitioners are generalists rather than specialists and have implications for the job design and education of HFE practitioners. Nurses may encounter musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and pain episodes stemming from regular exposure to health industry risk factors.Aim. To determine prevalence of MSDs and its associated factors among Turkish surgical nurses.Methods. A cross-sectional design which used a self-administered questionnaire surveys was employed with 169 surgical nurses. The survey included an individual data questionnaire, and Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire- Extended (NMQ-E).Results. 88.8 %of the surgical nurses had musculoskeletal system disorders, and most experienced these problems were related health industry. The interventions causing physical strain in the participants were identified as constant standing up, patient care, carrying heavy loads, sudden movements, patient transfer, and pulling-pushing practices. It was found that the nurses used coping methods including walking, exercising, receiving physiotherapist support, pilates and yoga. The most frequently encountered problems were in the back region. A significant relationship was found between musculoskeletal system problems and the clinic of work, years of work, age, and gender (p less then 0.05).Conclusions. Nurses experience musculoskeletal problems related to health industry. It is crucial to determine the real causes of musculoskeletal problems and take appropriate preventive measures to improve workplace ergonomics. The selective oestrogen receptor modulator (SERM) clomiphene is therapeutically used to induce ovulation. While prohibited as a doping agent in sports, it is frequently detected in sports drug testing urine samples. Few reports exist on clomiphene's (illicit) use in the farming industry to increase the egg production rate of laying hens, which creates a risk that eggs as well as edible tissue of these hens contain residues of clomiphene. To investigate the potential transfer of clomiphene into eggs and muscle tissue, laying hens were orally administered with clomiphene citrate at 10 mg/day for 28 days. To determine clomiphene residues in eggs, chicken breast and chicken thigh, the target analyte was extracted from homogenised material with acetonitrile and subjected to ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) analysis. The test method reached a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 1 µg/kg and was characterised concerning specificity, precision, trueness and linearity. Analyses were performed on whole egg, egg white and yolk separately, and chicken muscle from breast and thigh. Clomiphene was detectable in eggs two days after the beginning of the drug administration period. The drug concentrations increased to 10-20 µg per egg within one week, and after withdrawal of clomiphene, residues decreased after 4 days, but traces of clomiphene were still detectable until the end of the study (14 days after the last administration). In the chicken's muscle tissue, clomiphene levels up to 150 µg/kg (thigh) and 36 µg/kg (breast) were found. Six days after the last dose, tissue clomiphene concentrations fell below the LOQ. Overall, these results underline the concerns that clomiphene may be transferred into animal-derived food and future research will therefore need to focus on assessing and minimising the risk of unintentional adverse analytical findings in doping controls. This study aimed to evaluate levels of pesticide residues commonly used on tomato crops in Western Algeria. It showed a significant use of pesticides, especially insecticides (47%) and fungicides (41%) among listed pesticides in crop fields. A total of 30 tomato samples were analysed using multi-residue analysis by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) after QuEChERS extraction. Five pesticides (difenoconazole, triadimenol, metalaxyl, chlorpyriphos and methomyl) were detected in 14 samples (47%). Among these five samples containing residues of two different types of pesticides. The levels ranged from 2.29 to 64.3 µg/kg. The methomyl residue in one sample was above the maximum limit (MRLs) set by the European Union. Our results indicate an excessive use of pesticides and undeniable non-compliance with good agricultural practices. Routine monitoring for pesticides is recommended to preserve consumer's health.Older sexual and gender minority adults living in rural areas of the U.S. face challenges in accessing welcoming and inclusive formal health, mental health, social, and long-term care services. The intersection of the local rural sociocultural context with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) identities and aging presents both challenges and opportunities for improving formal services for LGBT+ older adults. Little is known about how the rural south central Appalachian context intersects with the identities of LGBT+ older adults with regard to accessing formal services. This paper presents the results of a qualitative study examining experiences, concerns, and recommendations regarding formal services among 11 LGBT+ older adults residing in rural south central Appalachia. Several of the participants described experiencing discrimination and/or marginalization while accessing formal services. A number of participants were fearful about the lack of LGBT+-inclusive services and expressed that they would consider leaving the area if their own or their partner's health declined or if they or their partner required long-term care services, particularly residential care. Many participants expressed the need for local provider education and training about the needs of LGBT+ older adults. Implications for practice, policy, and research are discussed in this paper.Endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is widely involved in the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases. Although there is no direct evidence, it is very promising as an effective target for the treatment of these diseases. Endothelial cells need to respond to the complex cardiovascular environment through EndMT, but sustained stimuli will cause the imbalance of EndMT. Blocking the signal transduction promoting EndMT is an effective method to control the imbalance of EndMT. In particular, we also discussed the potential role of endothelial cell apoptosis and autophagy in regulating the imbalance of EndMT. In addition, promoting mesenchymal-endothelial transformation (MEndT) is also a method to control the imbalance of EndMT. However, targeting EndMT to treat cardiovascular disease still faces many challenges. By reviewing the research progress of EndMT, we have put forward some insights and translated them into challenges and opportunities for new treatment strategies for cardiovascular diseases.Animal derived biomaterials have attracted much attentions in treating large size bone defect due to their excellent biocompatibility and potent bioactivities offered by the biomacromolecules and growth factors contained in these materials. Dermis-derived matrix (ADM) has been used as skin grafts and wound dressings for decades, however its application in bone tissue engineering has been largely limited as ADM possesses a dense structure which does not support bone tissue ingrowth. Recently, we have successfully fabricated porous scaffold structure using an ADM with the aid of micronization technique. When integrated with inorganic components such as calcium phosphate, ADM could be transformed to bone graft substitutes with desirable osteogenic properties. While purified and chemically cross-linked collagen has lost its natural structure, our ADM successfully preserved natural tropocollagen structure, as well as other bioactive components. A composite scaffold was fabricated by incorporating dicalcium phosphate (DCP) microparticles into ADM microfibers and freeze-dried to form a highly porous structure. Unlike conventional ADM materials, this scaffold possesses high porosity with interconnected pores. More importantly, our evaluation data demonstrated that it performed much more effective in treating critical bone defects in comparison with best commercial product on the market. In a head-to-head comparison with a commercial bone graft material Bongold®, the ADM/DCP scaffold showed superior osteogenic capacity by filling the defect with well-organized new bone tissue in a rabbit radius segmental defect model. Put together, our results exhibited a novel bone graft substitute was developed by circumventing processing barriers associated with natural ADM, which offers another novel bone graft substitute for bone regeneration. Background This is the first case report of a patient with a twin pregnancy who developed appendiceal mucocele (AM) with peritoneal dissemination in the context of endometriosis and ovarian hyperstimulation. A review of the literature on AM during pregnancy, with a focus on management, is provided as well.Case presentation A 36-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department for abdominal pain in the right iliac fossa at 17 weeks of amenorrhoea (WA). She was pregnant with twins, achieved by in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and complicated by ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Abdominal ultrasonography indicated a diagnosis of uncomplicated acute appendicitis. However, the histopathological findings revealed low-grade appendicular mucinous neoplasia (LAMN) with peritoneal dissemination of acellular mucin. Maximal cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal mitomycin chemotherapy was performed post-partum.Conclusions Specialised management is required for AM during pregnancy and must take into account the progress of the pregnancy, the histology of the AM and the risk of perforation.
