We applied Monte Carlo simulation to investigate the thermodynamic properties and hysteresis loops of the hexagonal core-shell nanoparticle described by a ferrimagnetic mixed-spin (3/2, 5/2) Ising model. The results revealed the significance of the single-ion anisotropy, exchange coupling, external magnetic field in dominating various thermodynamic quantities and hysteresis loops. We obtained the variation of the critical temperature with various parameters. Under certain parameter conditions, the system may exhibit rich multiple-loop hysteresis behaviors, depending on the competition among the physical parameters.Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) are collectively known as gelatinases whereas MMP-2 is gelatinase-A and MMP-9 is termed as gelatinase-B. Gelatinases and other matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have long been associated with solid tumor invasion, metastasis and angiogenesis. However, there is paucity of data available regarding the role of gelatinases in hematological malignancies. Recent studies have shown that gelatinases activities or functions are correlated with hematological malignancies. Strategies for designing more specific gelatinase inhibitors like catalytic (CAT) domain inhibitors and hemopexin (PEX) domain inhibitors as well as signaling pathway based or gelatinase expression inhibitors had been reported against hematologic malignant cells. Several substrate based non-selective to non-substrate based relatively selective synthetic matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors (MMPIs) had been developed. Few MMPIs had reached in clinical trials during the period of 1990s-2000s. Unfortunately the anti-tumor and anti-metastatic efficacies of these MMPIs were not justified with patients having several advanced stage solid tumor cancers in any substantial number of clinical trials. Till date not a single MMPI passed phase III clinical trials designed for advanced metastatic cancers due to adverse events as well as lack of ability to show uniformity in disease prolongation. With the best of our knowledge no clinical trial study has been reported with small molecule synthetic inhibitors against hematological malignancies. This review looks at the outcome of clinical trials of MMPIs for advanced stage solid tumors. This can therefore, act as a learning experience for future development of successful gelatinase inhibitors for the management of hematological malignancies.
The sensation of spinal stiffness is a commonly reported symptom among back pain patients, with the clinical assessment of spinal stiffness usually being part of the decision-making process when deciding on providing manual treatment of low back pain. While any relationship between spinal stiffness and low back pain is likely to be multifactorial, prior exploration of this relationship has been overly simplistic (e.g., univariate regression analyses). The purpose of this study was to address this gap by taking a broader approach to compare instrumented measures of spinal stiffness to demographic characteristics, pain phenotypes, psychometrics, and spine-related disability in a sample of secondary care low back pain patients using multivariate regression analysis.

Instrumented spinal stiffness measures from 127 patients in secondary care were used to calculate terminal and global spinal stiffness scores. A best subset analysis was used to find the subsets of 14 independent variables that most accurately predicted stiffness based on the evaluation of the adjusted R-square, Akaike Information Criteria, and the Bayesian Information Criteria.

In the resulting multivariate models, sex (p<0.001) and age (p<0.001) were the primary determinants of terminal stiffness, while global stiffness was primarily determined by age (p=0.003) and disability (p=0.024).

Instrumented measures of spinal stiffness are multifactorial in nature, and future research into this area should make use of multivariate analyses.

Batch experiments were carried out at five different P/S mixing ratios at mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures. Compared to sludge anaerobic digestion, co-digestion of pig manure with sludge increased methane yield 83.0%-136.5% at mesophilic temperature and 31.3%-68.0% at thermophilic temperature. The normalized capillary suction time (NCST) and total solids (TS) of sediment (centrifugal dewatering) increased when pig manure proportion of substrate increased. The NCST at thermophilic temperatures (4.87-17.58 s g-1-TSS) was higher than that at mesophilic temperatures (1.89-10.95 s g-1-TSS). However, the TS of sediment was close at thermophilic and mesophilic temperatures. The results indicated that anaerobic co-digestion of pig manure and sludge at a proper mixing ratio (P/S = 21) provides a good choice for energy recovery and land utilization. In this study, three up-flow fixed-bed bioreactors were constructed with three different filling ratios (filling volume/effective volume 30%, 60% and 90%) of polycaprolactone (PCL). Above 98% of nitrate removal efficiency was achieved with low accumulations of nitrite and ammonium for each filling ratio. Low filling ratio of PCL had extensive folds and pores that favored the attachment and growth of microorganisms; however, excessive biomass restrained nitrate specific reduction rate (NaSRR). The most dominant genera were Comamonas (0.80-57.64%), Stenotrophomonas (2.59-54.39%), Acidovorax (7.32-23.55%), Allorhizobium-Neorhizobium-Pararhizobium-Rhizobium (0.30-19.74%) and Thermomonas (0.12-14.58%). Nitrate reductase (EC 1.7.99.4), nitrite reductase (EC 1.7.2.1) and nitric oxide reductase (EC 1.7.2.5) predicted by PICRUSt2 were abundant in high influent nitrate load (NaL). According to the analysis of carbon balance model, the utilization rate (η) of PCL showed a highly positive correlation with influent NaL, indicating reducing filling ratio or HRT might be an effective measure to save cost for nitrate removal. In a circular economy approach, edible filamentous fungi (single cell protein) can be cultivated on volatile fatty acids (VFAs) derived from anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic-rich waste streams. In this study, the effect of pH, concentration/distribution of VFAs, nutrient supplementation, and type of waste on Aspergillus oryzae cultivation on synthetic VFAs, and actual VFAs derived from AD of food waste and cow manure were investigated. The optimal pH for A. oryzae growth on VFAs were 6 and 7 with maximum acetic acid consumption rates of 0.09 g/L.h. The fungus could thrive on high concentrations of acetic (up to 9 g/L) yielding 0.29 g dry biomass/gVFAsfed. In mixed VFAs cultures, A. oryzae primarily consumed caproic and acetic acids reaching a biomass yield of 0.26 g dry biomass/gVFAsfed (containing up to 41% protein). For waste-derived VFAs at pH 6, the fungus successfully consumed 81-100% of caproic, acetic, and butyric acids. The dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) and its homologs in various eukaryotes are essential to maintain mitochondrial morphology and regulate mitochondrial division. Several mutations in different domains of Drp1 have been reported, which result in debilitating conditions. Four such disease-causing mutations of the middle domain of Drp1 were mimicked in the yeast dynamin-related GTPase (Dnm1) and were characterized in this study. Mitochondrial morphology and protein function were observed to be altered to a variable extent in cells expressing the mutated variants of Dnm1. Several aspects related to the protein such as punctate formation, localization to mitochondria, dynamic behavior and structure were analyzed by microscopy, biochemical studies and molecular dynamics simulations. Significant effects on the protein structure and function were observed in cells expressing A430D and G397D mutations. Overall, our data provide insight into the molecular and cellular alterations resulting from middle domain mutations in Dnm1.There is growing scientific interest to develop scalable biological measures that capture mitochondrial (dys)function. Mitochondria have their own genome, the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). It has been proposed that the number of mtDNA copies per cell (mtDNA copy number; mtDNAcn) reflects mitochondrial health. The common availability of stored DNA material or existing DNA sequencing data, especially from blood and other easy-to-collect samples, has made its quantification a popular approach in clinical and epidemiological studies. However, the interpretation of mtDNAcn is not univocal, and either a reduction or elevation in mtDNAcn can indicate dysfunction. The major determinants of blood-derived mtDNAcn are the heterogeneous cell type composition of leukocytes and platelet abundance, which can change with time of day, aging, and with disease. Hematopoiesis is a likely driver of blood mtDNAcn. Here we discuss the rationale and available methods to quantify mtDNAcn, the influence of blood cell type variations, and consider important gaps in knowledge that need to be resolved to maximize the scientific value around the investigation of blood mtDNAcn.
Even though SARS Cov2 outbreak management has been well-described, scant information is available in military settings. We aimed to describe a SARS Cov2 outbreak and its management on the Dixmude, a French landing helicopter dock.

We performed an observational retrospective and monocentric study in a ship. Role 1 was reinforced by additional roles 1 and 2. Our analysis included all infected crew personnel. We described demographic data, outbreak course, and biological samples including Covid-19 diagnosis. All infected patients were monitored for 10 days.

Between February 16th 2021 and March 12th 2021, 54 patients (10% of the entire crew) were included. No patient had previously been vaccinated against SARS Cov2. The global mission was maintained. The crew members were healthy, male, and young (median age 28 years) with no medical history. Ranks of every status were concerned. Covid-19 disease was mainly diagnosed by real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR). Thirty-two patients (59%) were symptomatic, four (8%) were presymptomatic and 18 (33%) remained asymptomatic.

The present work describes specific SARS Cov2 outbreak management in an austere military environment. Early individual and global measures were set and implemented on board.

Serum oestradiol concentration at the time of frozen embryo transfer (FET) in artificial cycle are lower when using transdermal administration of oestrogen for endometrial preparation compared to the vaginal route. This difference could have consequences for placentation and establishment of maternal-foetal circulation. The aim of our study was to compare the birth weight of newborns and the perinatal issues after FET in an artificial cycle with regard to the route of administration of oestrogens.

Retrospective monocentric cohort study in the medically assisted reproduction department of the University Hospital of Angers, France, between January 2017 and October 2020. Inclusion criteria were age >18 years old and one live birth after FET in an artificial cycle. The main outcome was the birth weight of the newborns. The choice of oestrogens administration (transdermal or vaginal) was left to the patient.

804 FET in artificial cycle were included in our study. Oestrogens were administrated in 356/804(36.
