It forms a substrate mycelium with rod-shaped sporangia containing 1-3 exospores. The isolate is obligately alkaliphilic, growing at pH 7.5-10.3 (optimum at 8.5-9.0) and moderately halophilic, tolerating up to 3 M total Na+ in the form of sodium carbonates. It is an obligately aerobic, organoheteroterophic, saccharolytic bacterium, utilizing various sugars and alpha/beta-glucans as growth substrates. According to the 16S rRNA gene-based phylogenetic analysis, strain ACPA39T forms a distinct branch within the family Micromonosporaceae, with the sequence identities below 94.5% with type strains of other genera. This is confirmed by phylogenomic analysis based on the 120 conserved single copy protein-based markers and genomic indexes (ANI, AAI). The cell-wall of ACPA39T contained meso-DAP, glycine, glutamic acid and alanine in a equimolar ratio, characteristic of the peptidoglycan type A1γ'. The whole-cell sugars include galactose and xylose. The major menaquinone is MK-10(H4). The identified polar lipids consist of phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylinositol. The polar lipid fatty acids were dominated by anteiso-C170, iso-C160, iso-C170, 10 Me-C180 and C181ω9. Based on the distinct phylogeny, the chemotaxonomy features and unique phenotypic properties, strain ACPA39T (DSM 106523T = VKM 2772T) is classified into a new genus and species in the family Micromonosporaceae for which the name Natronosporangium hydrolitycum gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed.The 7-item Functionality Appreciation Scale (FAS; Alleva et al., 2017) measures an individual's appreciation of their body for what it can do and is capable of doing (i.e., functionality appreciation). However, few studies have assessed the psychometric properties of the FAS in non-English speaking populations and in younger age groups. Here, we examined the psychometric properties of a novel Farsi translation of the FAS in Iranian adolescent girls and boys. A sample of 828 Iranian adolescents completed the FAS alongside the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory-II. Participants were randomly split into a first split-half for exploratory factor analysis (EFA) or a second split-half for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The EFA broadly supported a 1-dimensional model of FAS scores, although one item had low item-factor loadings. The CFA indicated that both the 6- and 7-item models had adequate fit. In further analyses, we found that the 7-item unidimensional model was invariant across gender and that higher FAS scores were significantly associated with higher self-esteem and lower depressive symptoms, indicative of convergent validity. These results provide evidence that the Farsi translation of the FAS is reliable and valid for use in Iranian adolescent girls and boys.Racial minority men and women face a wide variety of appearance-related pressures, including ones connected to their cultural backgrounds and phenotypic features associated with their identity. These body image concerns exist within a larger context, wherein racial minorities face pressures from multiple cultures or subcultures simultaneously to achieve unrealistic appearance ideals. However, limited research has investigated racial differences in the relationships between theorized sociocultural risk factors and body image in large samples. This study tests pathways from an integrated sociocultural model drawing on objectification theory and the tripartite influence model to three key body image outcomes appearance evaluation, body image quality of life, and face image satisfaction. These pathways were tested using multigroup structural equation modeling in a national sample of White, Black, Hispanic, and Asian men and women (ns = 205-4797 per group). Although many hypothesized associations were similar in strength across groups, race moderated some of the pathways between sociocultural pressures (media, peer, family), internalization of appearance ideals (thin-ideal, muscular/athletic), appearance surveillance, and body image outcomes. Findings support the likely role of both shared and specific risk factors for body image outcomes, suggesting avenues for tailoring adapted interventions in order to target culturally-salient risk factors.The sensitive coherent interference of electron waves arising from a specimen is useful for revealing subtle structural information in electron micrographs, which can be important for minimising dose and for rapid imaging. In general, dynamical diffraction is expected due to the useful strong interactions of electrons with matter, which can create phase contrast that violates the requisite Radon projection assumption for tomography. It is for these reasons that incoherent imaging modalities such as high angle annular dark field have been favoured to date in electron tomography of crystalline specimens, to access a monotonic relationship between specimen thickness and micrograph intensity. Here we use a geometric approach to track topological features that are robust to perturbation of the imaging conditions, to enable 3D reconstructions from electron microscope tilt series under imaging conditions that violate the Radon projection assumption, with an emphasis on phase contrast. Invoking a sparsity assumption, we demonstrate that topological features can be reliably tracked in 3D using a differential geometric form of stereoscopy, to circumvent departures from the projection approximation and reduce noise by effecting segmentation of interest points from the outset. We demonstrate this approach on a variety of different specimen and data types, from polyhedral nanoparticles, to steel dislocation networks, cryo-EM cellular structures and 3D diffuse diffraction of a relaxor ferroelectric.This is a case study of a 34-year-old male patient of Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU) with severe generalised itching and rashes all over the body since 17 years. The patient has no significant relief with conventional antihistamine therapies, AST (Autologous serum therapy) and Omalizumab (OMA). He was clinically assessed and managed with Ayurvedic Panchakarma procedures like Snehapana(therapeutic administration of unctuous formulation like ghee, oil), Vamana, Virechana and internal medication in line of Seethapitta Chikitsa. The patient was asked to monitor hives and itching daily for one week using a validated weekly Urticaria Activity Score (UAS7) at the baseline, after Vamana, after Virechana and after follow up. The Quality of life was assessed at the baseline and after follow-up using Chronic Urticaria Quality of Life Questionnaire (CU-Q2oL). The assessment showed complete remission in disease activity and improvement in Quality of life as per the scores. The hematological and biochemical investigations reflect the safety and efficacy of Ayurveda in management of CSU.

This study aims to assess the differential skeletal growth pattern among pre-adolescent and adolescent girlsas a result of yoga practice.

A cross-sectional anthropometric study was conducted on stature (height), sitting height and leg length of 757 school-going girls (4-15 years old), divided in two groups, Yoga Group (YG) (n=380) and age matched Control Group (CG) (n=377) participants participating in recreational games other than yoga. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses were applied. Unpaired t-test was performed for assessment of level of significance and Pearson's correlation (r) test was performed to to identify the association between growth pattern of stature and leg length at specific ages.

The physical growth showed an ascending trend in both Yoga group (YG)
participants and control group (CG)
. At the onset of adolescence (10-12 years) thers. This may compromise with the natural growth pattern, necessitating special care during yoga training among adolescents while selecting the type, intensity and duration of yogasanas practice.
Report the long-term outcomes following transmembrane stent placement as a therapy for Cor Triatriatum Dexter (CTD).

Retrospective case series including six dogs with CTD treated with transmembrane stent placement. Follow-up information was obtained including the persistence of presenting clinical signs, additional therapies required, and survival.

The median follow-up time was 24 months (range 15-76 months). Long-term outcome was deemed excellent in four dogs (67%), good/fair in one dog (17%), and poor in one dog (17%). Three dogs had persistence of clinical signs of variable severity. These three dogs were Labrador Retrievers or their crosses with varying degrees of tricuspid valve dysplasia (TVD), two of which also had a right to left shunting patent foramen ovale (PFO). One of these three dogs died 23 months post-stent placement during attempted open-heart repair of the TVD and PFO. Another is alive 15 months post-operatively stable on medical therapy for right-sided congestive heart failure secondary to TVD. The final dog demonstrated improved but persistent mild exercise intolerance up to 76 months post-operatively associated with mild TVD and a concurrent PFO.

Transmembrane stent placement for CTD is a viable long-term treatment option with improvement or resolution of clinical signs. In the presence of concurrent congenital heart disease, specifically Labradors with TVD, additional therapies may be necessary with a corresponding impact on prognosis.

The clinical presentation and outcomes of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)-related hepatocellular carcinoma are unclear when compared with hepatocellular carcinoma due to other causes. We aimed to establish the prevalence, clinical features, surveillance rates, treatment allocation, and outcomes of NAFLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma.

In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched MEDLINE and Embase from inception until Jan 17, 2022, for articles in English that compared clinical features, and outcomes of NAFLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma versus hepatocellular carcinoma due to other causes. We included cross-sectional and longitudinal observational studies and excluded paediatric studies. Study-level data were extracted from the published reports. The primary outcomes were (1) the proportion of hepatocellular carcinoma secondary to NAFLD, (2) comparison of patient and tumour characteristics of NAFLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma versus other causes, and (3) comparison of survrall survival did not differ between the two groups (hazard ratio 1·05, 95% CI 0·92-1·20, p=0·43), but disease-free survival was longer for patients with NAFLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma (0·79, 0·63-0·99; p=0·044). There was substantial heterogeneity in most analyses (I
>75%), and all articles had low-to-moderate risk of bias.

NAFLD-related hepatocellular carcinoma is associated with a higher proportion of patients without cirrhosis and lower surveillance rates than hepatocellular carcinoma due to other causes. Surveillance strategies should be developed for patients with NAFLD without cirrhosis who are at high risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma.

This meta-analysis with longitudinal prospective cohort studies aimed to (a) determine whether chemotherapy is associated with time-dependent subjective cognitive impairment outcomes in breast cancer patients, and (b) identify the time point with the highest impact of chemotherapy on subjective cognitive impairment.

Data were gathered from PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycInfo, and the Cochrane Library. The mean differences of the subjective cognitive impairment level between the chemotherapy-treated patients and controls (patients not treated by chemotherapy and healthy subjects) were calculated using effect sizes (Hedges' g) by clinical time periods. The five clinical time periods were (a) baseline, (b) during chemotherapy, (c) within 1 month postchemotherapy, (d) within 1 year postchemotherapy, and (e) 1 year or longer postchemotherapy.

Longitudinal data from nine data sets from 13 studies were pooled and analyzed. At baseline, chemotherapy-treated patients showed slightly better subjective cognitive impaf subjective cognitive impairment in their routine practice.

We issued open invitations to study authors to participate in thection during pregnancy. These findings have potential implications for defining the optimal treatment target in women treated with levothyroxine during pregnancy, which needs to be assessed in future interventional studies.

Vascular calcification (VC) is an intricate active process, significantly controlled by vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a pivotal role in VC and VSMCs osteoblastic transformation. We previously reported that decreased levels of Irisin were independently associated with VC in hemodialysis patients. The present study aimed to investigate the role of Irisin in VC, especially in VSMCs osteoblastic transformation and mitochondrial function.

In vitro, VSMCs calcification was induced by β-glycerophosphate, while in vivo VC was triggered by adenine and high phosphorus diet. Alizarin red, Von Kossa staining, and calcium and Alp activity were performed to test VC. Western blot and immunohistochemical staining were employed to analyze the expression of proteins associated with VSMCs osteoblastic transformation and AMPK signaling. Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and structures were observed by immunofluorescence staining.

Irisin alleviated VSMCs calcification induced by β-glycerophosphate. Mechanistically, Irisin activated AMPK and downregulated the expression of Drp1, further alleviating mitochondria fission and VSMCs osteoblastic transformation. In vivo, Irisin decreased serum creatinine, urea and phosphorous levels in chronic kidney disease (CKD) mice. Importantly, Irisin treatment postponed CKD-associated VC with the upregulation of α-Sma and p-AMPK expression, and the downregulation of Runx2 and Drp1 expression.

It is known that vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) represent a major part of the atherosclerotic plaque. In addition to forming fibrous cap cells that stabilize the atherosclerotic plaque, VSMCs trans-differentiate into macrophage-like cells that exacerbate the necrotic core. Here, we aim to address the question of how VSMCs are selected to perform distinct functions under a similar environmental stress, and how much cellular reprogramming happens during VSMC-to-macrophage-like transformation.

Single-cell RNA-Sequencing (scRNA-Seq) analysis, in vitro transcriptional and metabolic studies, and pathological sample examinations were performed to decipher the cellular reprogramming during VSMC-to-macrophage-like cell transformation.

By analyzing scRNA-Seq data of the atherosclerotic plaque, VSMC-derived macrophage-like cells were found to undergo a series promotion of lysosome-related and inflammation-related genes. In vitro transcriptional studies further confirmed that suppression of NOTCH signaling iscells under high lipid stress. Acetylation of the N-terminus and lysine side chains by N-succinimidyl acetate was selectively observed for intrinsically disordered α-synuclein and well-ordered ubiquitin. Furthermore, when nonacetylated 13C/15N-enriched α-synuclein was introduced into live HEK293 cells, intracellular N-terminal acetylation of α-synuclein was detected by the appearance of a single peak using Ac-FIND. This work demonstrates the utility of NMR to detect a specific protein modification both in vitro and in live cells.
Neighborhood deprivation is linked with inflammation, which may explain poorer health across populations. Behavioral risk factors are assumed to largely mediate these relationships, but few studies have examined this. We examined three neighborhood contextual factors that could exert direct effects on inflammation (1) neighborhood socioeconomic status, (2) an index of concentration at extremes (that measures segregation), and (3) surrounding vegetation (greenness).

Using blood samples and addresses collected from prospective cohorts of 7,930 male (1990-1994) and 16,183 female (1986-1990) health professionals with at least one inflammatory marker, we prospectively linked neighborhood contextual factors to inflammatory biomarkers (adiponectin, C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor-2). Log-transformed, z-scaled component measures were used to calculate an inflammation score. Neighborhood socioeconomic status and index of concentration of extremes were obtained from the 199r findings support the hypothesis that adverse neighborhood environments may contribute to inflammation through pathways independent of behavioral risk factors, including psychosocial stress and toxic environments.

A panel study was conducted with four repeated follow-up visits among 40 healthy college students in Hefei, Anhui Province, China from August to October, 2021. We measured BP by using an automated sphygmomanometer and obtained hourly data of air pollutants at a nearby site. The sum of O

) were obtained as exposure variables. We applied linear mixed-effect models to evaluate the effects of O

on systolic BP (SBP), diastolic BP (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and pulse pressure (PP).

Totally, 160 pairs of valid BP values were obtained. The 24-h mean levels of O

were 64.38 μg/m

The goal of this study was to investigate the role of excessive copper accumulation in mitochondrial damage and cell apoptosis inhibition. In vivo, the heart copper concentration and cardiac troponin I (c-TnI) and N-terminal forebrain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) levels increased in the copper-laden model group compared to those of the control group. Histopathological and ultrastructural observations revealed that the myocardial collagen volume fraction (CVF), perivascular collagen area (PVCA) and cardiomyocyte cross-sectional area (CSA) were markedly elevated in the copper-laden model group compared with the control group. Furthermore, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the mitochondrial double-layer membrane was incomplete in the copper-laden model groups. Furthermore, cytochrome C (Cyt-C) expression was downregulated in mitochondria but upregulated in the cytoplasm in response to copper accumulation. In addition, Bcl-2 expression decreased, while Bax and cleaved caspase-3 levels increased. These results indicate that copper accumulation in cardiomyocyte mitochondria induces mitochondrial injury, and Cyt-C exposure and induces apoptosis, further resulting in heart damage.Pydiflumetofen, a fungicide of the class of succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors, can disrupt energy metabolism by inhibiting the synthesis of succinate dehydrogenase, thus effectively inhibiting pathogenic fungal growth and related yield losses.We studied the adsorption and desorption behaviors and interaction mechanisms of pydiflumetofen in eight different arable soils by the infrared spectroscopy and batch equilibrium method. Pydiflumetofen adsorption and desorption property of soils conformed with the Freundlich isotherm model and the values for the adsorption capacity KF-ads were in the range of 14.592-102.610. The adsorption constants (KF-ads) exhibited a significantly positive and linear correlation (p less then 0.1) with soil organic matter and organic carbon content. Both high and low temperatures weakened the pydiflumetofen sorption capacity of the soil. In addition, the initial pH of the solution, its ionic strength, and the addition of exogenous biochar, humic acid, and different types of surfactants at different concentrations also affected the sorption property of the soil. Pydiflumetofen is weakly mobile and leachable in most soils, and, poses some threat to surface soil and water organisms, but does not contaminate groundwater.This work evaluates the impact of salinity and the toxicity of some metals and organic compounds commonly found in produced waters on the growth of model photosynthetic organisms. Five strains of marine microalgae and one cyanobacteria (i.e. Dunaliella salina, Nannochloropsis oceanica, Tetraselmis suecica, Picochlorum costavermella, Coccomyxa simplex and Synechococcus rubescens) were tested in microplates as well as the freshwater Chlorella vulgaris selected as reference. Results revealed that D.salina was able to growth at high salinity (up to 135 g·L-1). Copper was the most toxic metal for all strains (half maximal effective concentration between 0.1 and 10 mg·L-1) except for D.salina and C.simplex. These two strains were the most resistant to all metals tested. All organic compounds presented half maximal effective concentration above 10 mg·L-1, none of them being very toxic for the studied microorganisms. P.costavermella and C.simplex were the most resistant strains to organic compounds. Looking at tolerance to salinity, metals and organic compounds, D.salina appeared to be the best choice for biomass production in produced waters. In addition, growths in 80% artificial produced water supplemented with f medium confirm the feasibility to use this medium to produce biomass.
Few environmental epidemiological studies and no large multicity studies have evaluated the acute short-term health effects of ambient non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), the essential precursors of ground-level ozone and secondary organic aerosol formation.

We conducted this multicity time-series study in Taiwan to evaluate the association between airborne NMHC exposure and cardiorespiratory hospital admissions.

We collected the daily mean concentrations of NMHC, fine particulate matter (PM
), ozone (O
), weather conditions, and daily hospital admission count for cardiorespiratory diseases between 2014 and 2017 from eight major cities of Taiwan. We applied an over-dispersed generalized additive Poisson model (GAM) with adjustment for temporal trends, seasonal variations, weather conditions, and calendar effects to compute the effect estimate for each city. Then we conducted a random-effects meta-analysis to pool the eight city-specific effect estimates to obtain the overall associations of NMHC exposure on lag0 day with hospital admissions for respiratory and circulatory diseases, respectively.

On average, a 0.1-ppm increase of lag0 NMHC demonstrated an overall 0.9% (95% CI 0.4-1.3%) and 0.8% (95% CI 0.4-1.2%) increment of hospital admissions for respiratory and circulatory diseases, respectively. Further analyses with adjustment for PM
and O
in the multi-pollutant model or sensitivity analyses with restricting the NMHC monitoring from the general stations only confirmed the robustness of the association between ambient NMHC exposure and cardiorespiratory hospitalizations.

Probiotics are often used as additives to reduce ammonia, and the ammonia reduction efficiency of common probiotics is approximately 20-40%. In this study, we constructed a gdhA recombinant Pichia pastoris strain, glnA recombinant Pichia pastoris strain and gdhA-glnA Pichia pastoris recombinant strain using the gdhA and glnA genes, which have the potential function of reducing ammonia emissions. The results of in vitro fermentation showed that compared with the control, wild-type Pichia pastoris and pPICZA strains, the gdhA, glnA and gdhA-glnA recombinant strains significantly reduced ammonia emissions in laying hens (P less then 0.05), with emission reduction efficiencies of 63.95%, 65.68% and 74.04%, respectively. The reason may be that the recombinant Pichia pastoris strains can convert ammonium nitrogen into amino acids for self-growth through ammonia assimilation, and reduce the pH, uric acid and urea content in the intestinal tract of livestock and poultry, and urease activity. Therefore, the construction of recombinant strains can provide technical support for reducing ammonia pollution in the livestock industry.The plasma consists of multiple functional serine zymogens, such as plasma kallikrein-kinin system (KKS), which are vulnerable to exogenous chemical exposure, and may closely relate to the deleterious effects. Testing whether the anthropogenic chemicals could increase the kallikrein-like activity in plasma or not would be of great help to understand their potentials in triggering the cascade activation of the plasma zymogens and explain the corresponding hematotoxicity. In this study, a novel high-throughput ex vivo assay was established to screen the abilities of emerging chemicals like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in inducing kallikrein-like activities on basis of using rat plasma as the protease zymogen source. Upon the optimization of the conditions in the test system, the assay gave sensitive fluorescent response to the stimulation of the positive control, dextran sulfate, and the dose-response showed a typical S-shaped curve with EC50 of 0.24 mg/L. The intra-plate and inter-plate relative standard deviations (RSDs) were less than 10% in the quantitative range of dextran sulfate, indicating a good reliability and repeatability of this newly-established assay. Using this method, several alternatives or congeners of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), including 62 chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl ether sulfonate (62 Cl-PFESA), Ag-PFOA, K-PFOA, Na-PFOA and ammonium pentadecafluorooctanoate (APFO), were further screened, and their capabilities in inducing kallikrein-like activities were identified. The ex vivo assay newly-developed in the present study would be promising in high-throughput screening of the hematological effects of emerging chemicals of concern.Arsenic (As) contaminated mining spoils pose health threats to environmental resources and humans, and thus, mitigating this potential risk is worth investigating. Here, we studied the impacts of biochar, compost, iron oxide, manure, and inorganic fertilizer on the non-specifically (readily bioavailable)- and specifically- sorbed As and soil quality improvement of an abandoned mine spoil highly contaminated with As (total As = 1807 mg/kg). Compost, iron oxide, manure, and biochar were each applied at 0.5%, 2%, and 5% (w/w) to the contaminated soil; and NPK fertilizer at 0.1, 0.2, and 5.0 g/kg. The non-specifically (readily bioavailable)- and specifically- sorbed As were extracted sequentially and available P, total C and N, dissolved organic carbon, soil soluble anions, and exchangeable cations were extracted after 1- and 28-day incubation. Compost, manure, and biochar at 5% improved the total C and N and exchangeable K+, Mg2+ and Na+. However, manure, compost, and iron oxide at 5% reduced available P from 11hich indicates that these amendments may increase the risk of As, but can be used to enhance phytoextraction efficiency of As in the gold mining spoil.Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is detrimental to the human respiratory system. However, the toxicity of PM2.5 and its associated potentially harmful species, notably novel pollutants like environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs), remains unclear. Therefore, one-year site monitoring and ambient air PM2.5 sampling in the Nanjing urban area was designed to investigate the relationships between chemical compositions (carbon fractions, metallic elements, and water-soluble ions) and EPFRs, and change in cytotoxicity with varying PM2.5 components. Oxidative stress (reactive oxygen species, ROS), inflammatory injury (IL-6 and TNF-α), and membrane injury (LDH) of human lung epithelial cells (A549) induced by PM2.5 were analyzed using in vitro cytotoxicity test. Both the composition and toxicity of PM2.5 from different seasons were compared. The average daily exposure of urban PM2.5 associated EPFRs load in Nanjing were 2.29 × 1011 spin m-3. Their exposure concentration and cytotoxic damage ability were stronger in the cold season than warm. The particle compositions of metals and carbon fractions were significantly positively correlated with EPFRs. The airborne EPFRs, organic carbon (OC), and heavy metal Cu, As, and Pb may pose principal cell damage ability, which is worthy of further study interlinking aerosol pollution and health risks.Endometrial epidermal growth factor (EGF) shows a cyclic change with two peaks on Days 2-4 and 13-14 during the estrous cycle. An altered (i.e., loss of the two peaks) profile has been linked to reduced fertility in repeat breeder cows. We previously demonstrated that a form of osteopontin (OPN), with a molecular weight of 29 kDa and found in bull seminal plasma (SP), normalized the EGF profile and restored fertility in repeat breeder cows. OPN has many molecular forms due to post-translational modifications and is abundant in bovine milk. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether mOPN normalizes the endometrial EGF profile and restores fertility in repeat breeder dairy cows with an altered EGF profile. OPN was separated by one-step anion-exchange column chromatography from the whey of bovine milk. Purified mOPN was verified by Western blotting and peptide mass fingerprinting analyses. The OPN fraction showed three major protein bands of 61, 37 and 31 kDa (peptides I, II, and III, respective higher than that of PBS (22.2%) (P less then 0.05). The present results indicate that the infusion of mOPN into the vagina is a treatment option for repeat breeder cows with an altered EGF profile. Further studies are needed to compare the capacity of the three OPN molecules in milk to normalize the EGF profile, together with their molecular characteristics due to post-translational modifications.Citrus sour rot caused by Geotrichum citri-aurantii is one of the most important postharvest diseases in citrus fruit, causing huge economic losses. Hypothetical purchase tasks have been widely used to assess the reinforcing value of tobacco products. However, a task has not yet been validated for little cigars and cigarillos (LCCs), a popular tobacco product class among vulnerable populations. This study sought to validate the LCC Purchase Task (LCCPT) in a sample of experienced LCC smokers.

Data were collected from 65 young adult (18-34years) LCC and cigarette dual users (78.5% male) in Connecticut (2018-2020). Participants completed the usual-brand LCCPT for consumption in 24h at increasing prices. We calculated four observed demand indices intensity (consumption at $0), breakpoint (price after which consumption reaches 0), O
(maximum daily expenditure), and P
(price at which daily expenditure was maximized). Two indices were estimated from demand curves Q
(predicted consumption as price approaches $0) and price-sensitivity (sensitivity to price increases). Spearman correlations and multivariable regressions examined the associations between demand indices, self-reported cigar use, and dependence.

Correlations were in expected directions. All indices except breakpoint and P
were positively correlated with use, and all indices were correlated with multiple measures of dependence. Overall, greater demand and expenditure for LCCs and lower sensitivity to price changes were correlated with greater use and dependence. In regression analyses intensity and price-sensitivity showed the strongest relationships with use and dependence.

The validity of the LCCPT was supported in a sample of experienced LCC smokers. This instrument can be incorporated into other protocols to assess the abuse liability of LCCs.

Individuals who have both opposite- and same-sex partners have the potential to pass sexually transmitted infections (STIs) between high- and low-risk populations. Our aim was to examine assortative sexual mixing in terms of same-sex activity among male-female partnerships.

This was a retrospective repeated cross-sectional study of male-female partnerships attending the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC) from 2015 to 2019. Sex of sexual partners was collected via computer-assisted self-interview. We calculated the proportion of partnerships where at least one individual reported same-sex partners in the previous 12months and the degree of assortativity by bisexuality.

A total of 2112 male-female partnerships (i.e. 4224 individuals) were included, with a median age of 27 years (IQR 23-31). Overall, 89.3% (1885/2112) of male-female partnerships did not report any other same-sex partners; however, in 9.5% (201/2112) of partnerships, same-sex partners were reported by one individual and in 1.2% (26/2112) of partnerships, both individuals reported same-sex partners. Bisexuality appeared to be slightly assortative in male-female partnerships (r =0.163, 95% CI 0.150-0.176; P <0.001).

Thrombin generation assays and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT)-based clot waveform analysis (CWA), are some examples of global coagulation assays. Each modality evaluates different aspects of the clot forming process to globally define haemostasis with exclusive measurement parameters. Data on CWA are emerging, but its performance against other haemostatic assays is yet to be ascertained. This study evaluates the correlation between aPTT-based CWA and CAT parameters across a range of INR in warfarin-treated patients.

After their introduction, there have been numerous improvements in performance, including development of techniques such as actuation strain and heating methods. However, the development of robots using TCA is still in its early stages. In this study, a bionic arm driven by TCAs was developed for light and flexible operation. The aim of this study was to gain a foothold in the future of robot development using TCA, which is considered as the appropriate artificial muscle. The main developments were with regard to the design (from actuator design to system design), system configuration for control, and control method. First, a process technology for repeatedly manufacturing TCA, which can be used practically and delivers sufficient performance, was developed. Based on the developed actuator, a joint was designed to move the elbow and hand. The final bionic arm was developed by integrating the TCA, pulley joint, and control system. It moved the elbow up to 100° and allowed the hand to move in three degrees of freedom. Using the control method for each joint, we were able to show the movement by using the hand and elbow.Daratumumab injection was approved by China in 2019 for the treatment of recurrent or refractory multiple myeloma. However, the molecular weight of daratumumab, an immunoglobin G1 kappa human monoclonal antibody, was similar to that of M protein and could not be distinguished from IgG κ M protein in SPEP and SIFE. It might lead to false-positive detection resulting in misdiagnose and confusing evaluation of therapeutic response, especially for patients with IgG κ M proteins. Herein, we reported two cases encountered in our daily clinical work. These two case reports could serve as a reminder to global hematologists who have not yet started or just begun to use the drug of daratumumab.
To determine prostate cancer screening performance using prostate specific antigen (PSA) along with other markers, expressing markers in age-specific multiples of the median (MoM), and age.

A prospective nested case-control study used stored serum from 571 men who died of, or with history of, prostate cancer (cases), and 2169 matched controls. Total, free and intact PSA, human kallikrein-related peptidase 2 (hK2), and microseminoprotein were measured and converted into MoM values. Screening marker distribution parameters were estimated in cases and controls. Monte Carlo simulation used these in a risk-based algorithm to estimate screening performance (detection rates [DRs] and false-positive rates [FPRs]).

Almost all (99%) cases occurred aged ≥55. Marker values were similar in cases who did and did not die of prostate cancer. Combining age, total PSA and hK2 MoM values (other markers added little or no discrimination) yielded a 1.2% FPR (95% CI 0.2-4.8%) for a 90% DR (59-98%) in men who died of or with a prostate cancer diagnosis within 5 years of blood collection (risk cut-off 1 in 20), two-thirds less than the 4.5% FPR using total PSA alone measured in ng/ml for the same 90% DR (cut-off 3.1 ng/ml). Screening performance over 10 years yielded a 33% (22-46%) FPR for a 90% DR.

This study was aimed to determine the duration of the maternal immunity in lambs born from vaccinated ewe against Sheep pox. The level of neutralizing antibody against Sheeppox virus (SPPV) was measured in 14 lambs that were fed colostrum of their immunized mother (MCF lambs; n = 14) or reared with colostrum of ewes that were not immunized against Sheep pox, as the control (C lambs; n = 7), using virus neutralization index. The lambs were randomly divided into four experimental groups and after blood sampling, they were challenged by a virulent SPPV at different postbirth days, including 15 (2 CF and 1 C lambs), 30 (4 CF and 2 C lambs), 60 (4 CF and 2 C lambs), and 90 (4 CF and 2 C lambs) days of age. All the C lambs had no antibody titers against SPPV. Results of the challenge test showed that, up to 60 days of age, the MCF lambs had only localized scabs at the inoculation site and did not show any secondary pock lesions associated with Sheep pox; while all the C lambs were infected (p  0.05), indicating decrease of maternal immunity. These findings revealed that the duration of maternal immunity against SPPV is ∼60 days, and vaccination is better to be performed at later ages.Background Tooth loss reduces crestal bone with important resorption of alveolar dimensions, reducing the possibility of placing implants after wounds healing. Objective The goal of this pilot experience was to consider, in alveolar ridge preservation, the regenerative and decontaminating potential of oxygen high-level laser therapy (OHLLT), a high-frequency and high-power diode laser combined with hydrogen peroxide 10 volumes 3%, and to evaluate wound closure during the 14-21 days after surgery. Methods For this study we selected 15 patients (age range from 30 to 70 years old) who underwent alveolar ridge preservation (three patients were treated in the anterior maxilla, 12 in the mandibular jaw, with molars and premolars involved). A clinical and radiographic examination was performed at baseline. In this pilot experience, after the extractions, the sockets were treated with photodynamic therapy without dye (OHLLT/SiOxyL+ protocol) to decontaminate the area that was treated, combined with allografts, Osteobto extracellular matrix induced by photodynamic laser therapy on grafts materials and to PBM made each 2 weeks for the first 4 months postsurgery. The study was conducted according to the guidelines of the Ethics Committee of the School of Medicine and Surgery at the Milano Bicocca University (protocol n. 11/17), and derived from the approval of Italian National Institute of Health (ISS), protocol 30 July 2007-0040488.Background Antibiotic prophylaxis is a common, established practice at trauma centers worldwide for patients presenting with various forms of serious injury. Many patients simultaneously present with hemorrhage. The current guidelines by the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma recommend re-dosing prophylactic antibiotic agents for every 10 units of blood products administered. However, these guidelines are only mildly supported by dated research. Methods A literature search was completed through Medline EBSCO Host using antibiotic prophylaxis and transfusion as keywords. Articles judged to be relevant to the study question were selected for full-text review. Case studies were not included. Altogether, 18 articles were cited in our results through this process. Results Risk of infection increases in patients resuscitated with large volume of blood products. Animal models of trauma offered conflicting findings on whether blood loss and blood resuscitation altered tissue antibiotic concentrations compared with controls. Studies focused on antibiotic pharmacokinetics in non-trauma human patients revealed agreement surrounding reported decreases in serum and tissue concentrations, although there was discrepancy surrounding the clinical relevancy of the reported decreases. Conclusions Trauma, hemorrhage, and transfusion impair the immune response resulting in increased incidence of infection. Both animal and human models of antibiotic pharmacokinetics show decreased serum and tissue concentrations during hemorrhage. However, available data are insufficient to conclude that trauma patients experiencing hemorrhage are at elevated risk of infection and thus require more frequent redosing of antibiotic agents than the current guidelines suggest. An upcoming, prospective study by our institution seeks to evaluate this question.Background Use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) as adjunct therapy to insulin in type 1 diabetes (T1D) has been previously studied. In this study, we present data from the first free-living trial combining low-dose SGLT2i with commercial automated insulin delivery (AID) or predictive low glucose suspend (PLGS) systems. Methods In an 8-week, randomized, controlled crossover trial, adults with T1D received 5 mg/day empagliflozin (EMPA) or no drug (NOEMPA) as adjunct to insulin therapy. Participants were also randomized to sequential orders of AID (Control-IQ) and PLGS (Basal-IQ) systems for 4 and 2 weeks, respectively. The primary endpoint was percent time-in-range (TIR) 70-180 mg/dL during daytime (700-2300 h) while on AID (NCT04201496). Findings A total of 39 subjects were enrolled, 35 were randomized, 34 (EMPA; n = 18 and NOEMPA n = 16) were analyzed according to the intention-to-treat principle, and 32 (EMPA; n = 16 and NOEMPA n = 16) completed the trial. On AID, EMPA versus NOEMPA had higher daytime TIR 81% versus 71% with a mean estimated difference of +9.
