Although CPA is an unrecognised disease in Indonesia, this study suggests that more than one in five GeneXpert negative patients with persistent symptoms following completion of TB therapy may have CPA.The effects of various oxygen flows on indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO) based thin-film transistors (TFTs) with different channel width sizes have been investigated. The IGZO nano-films exhibited amorphous phase while the bandgap energy and sheet resistance increased with increasing oxygen flow rate. The electrical characteristics were evaluated with different sizes in channel width using fixed channel length. The distributions in terms of threshold voltage and current on-off level along the different channel width sizes have been discussed thoroughly. The minimum distribution of threshold voltage was observed at an oxygen flow rate of 1 sccm. The TFT electrical properties have been achieved, using an oxygen flow rate of 1 sccm with 500 µm channel width, the threshold voltage, ratio of on-current to off-current, sub-threshold swing voltage and field effect mobility to be 0.54 V, 106, 0.15 V/decade and 12.3 cm2/V·s, respectively. On the other hand, a larger channel width of 2000 µm could further improve the ratio of on-current to off-current and sub-threshold swing voltage to 107 and 0.11 V/decade. The optimized combination of oxygen flow and channel width showed improved electrical characteristics for TFT applications.Salecan is a microbial polysaccharide suitable to obtain hydrogel for biomedical applications due to the excellent hydrophilicity and biocompatibility properties. In this work, Salecan of different concentrations was introduced into polymethacrylic acid (PMAA) in the presence of clay to form novel semi synthetic hydrogel nanocomposites systems and loaded afterwards with doxorubicin (DOX). The physical-chemical characteristics of the nanocomposites systems and their effect on the viability, and morphology of MDBK (Madin-Darby bovine kidney), HT-29 human colorectal adenocarcinoma and Colo 205 human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines were investigated. DOX release from the nanocomposite systems, cell up-take and subsequent effect on cell proliferation was also analyzed. It was found that Salecan concentration determined the swelling behavior, structural parameters and morphological features of the nanocomposite systems. The hydrogen bonds strongly influenced the formation of PMAA-Salecan-clay systems, each component bringing its own contribution, thus demonstrating the achievement of an advanced crosslinked network and a more compacted hydrogel nanocomposite morphology. All the synthesized nanocomposites had negligible toxicity to normal MDBK cells and chemoresistent HT-29 cell line, whereas in the case of Colo 205 cells a decrease by 40% of the cell viability was obtained for the sample containing the highest amount of Salecan. This effect was correlated with the lowest pore size distribution leading to highest available specific surface area and entrapped amount of DOX which was further released from the nanocomposite sample. Corroborating all the data it can be suggested that the synthesized nanocomposites with Salecan and clay could be good candidates as vehicles for chemotherapeutic agents.Adherence to Mediterranean diet has been consistently associated with a reduced mortality in the general population, but evidence for women with breast cancer is scanty.
A cohort of 1453 women with breast cancer diagnosed between 1991 and 1994 in northern Italy was followed-up for vital status for 15 years after diagnosis. The pre-diagnostic habitual diet was assessed through a structured questionnaire and adherence to the Mediterranean diet was evaluated through the Mediterranean Diet Score. Hazard ratios (HR) of death with confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using Cox model, adjusting for potential confounders.

Compared to women who scarcely adhere to the Mediterranean diet (
= 332, 22.8%), those highly adherent (
= 500, 34.4%) reported higher intakes of carbohydrates, mono-unsaturated and poly-unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, folate, and carotenoids, and lower intakes of cholesterol and animal proteins. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet was associated with a better prognosis 15-year overall survival of 63.1% for high and 53.6% for low adherence, respectively (
= 0.013). HR for all-cause mortality was 0.72 (95% CI 0.57-0.92) and HR for breast cancer mortality was 0.65 (95% CI 0.43-0.98) for women 55 years and older. No significant association emerged for breast cancer mortality in the total cohort.

Although dietary habits may have changed after breast cancer diagnosis, these findings indicate that women who ate according to the Mediterranean dietary pattern prior to their diagnosis may have greater chance of a favorable prognosis after breast cancer diagnosis compared to those who did not.

However, detecting these tumor-borne mutations in urine requires highly sensitive methods, capable of measuring low-level mutations. In this study, we developed sensitive droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assays for detecting TERT promoter mutations (C228T, C228A, CC242-243TT, and C250T). We tested the C228T and C250T ddPCR assays on all samples with sufficient quantity of urinary DNA (urine supernatant cell-free DNA (US cfDNA) or urine pellet cellular DNA (UP cellDNA)) from the DIAGURO (n = 89/93 cases and n = 92/94 controls) and from the IPO-PORTO (n = 49/50 cases and n = 50/50 controls) series that were previously screened with the UroMuTERT assay and compared the performance of the two approaches. In the DIAGURO series, tent of 0.99) and (iii) only minimal for the samples with the lowest MAFs ( less then 0.5%; kappa coefficient 0.32). Altogether, our results indicate that the two methods (ddPCR and UroMuTERT) for detecting urinary TERT promoter mutations are comparable and that the discrepancies relate to the detection of low-allelic fraction mutations. The simplicity of the ddPCR assays makes them suitable for implementation in clinical settings.Active multilayer films based on polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) with and without high barrier coatings of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were herein successfully developed. To this end, an electrospun antimicrobial hot-tack layer made of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) derived from cheese whey, a by-product from the dairy industry, was deposited on a previously manufactured blown film of commercial food contact PHA-based resin. A hybrid combination of oregano essential oil (OEO) and zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) were incorporated during the electrospinning process into the PHBV nanofibers at 2.5 and 2.25 wt%, respectively, in order to provide antimicrobial properties. A barrier CNC coating was also applied by casting from an aqueous solution of nanocellulose at 2 wt% using a rod at 1m/min. The whole multilayer structure was thereafter assembled in a pilot roll-to-roll laminating system, where the blown PHA-based film was located as the outer layers while the electrospun antimicrobial hot-tack PHBV layer and the barrier CNC coating were placed as interlayers. The resultant multilayer films, having a final thickness in the 130-150 µm range, were characterized to ascertain their potential in biodegradable food packaging. The multilayers showed contact transparency, interlayer adhesion, improved barrier to water and limonene vapors, and intermediate mechanical performance. Moreover, the films presented high antimicrobial and antioxidant activities in both open and closed systems for up to 15 days. Finally, the food safety of the multilayers was assessed by migration and cytotoxicity tests, demonstrating that the films are safe to use in both alcoholic and acid food simulants and they are also not cytotoxic for Caco-2 cells.Shotgun metagenomic sequencing (SMg) enables the simultaneous detection and characterization of viruses in human, animal and environmental samples. However, lack of sensitivity still poses a challenge and may lead to poor detection and data acquisition for detailed analysis. To improve sensitivity, we assessed a broad scope targeted sequence capture (TSC) panel (ViroCap) in both human and animal samples. Moreover, we adjusted TSC for the Oxford Nanopore MinION and compared the performance to an SMg approach. TSC on the Illumina NextSeq served as the gold standard. Overall, TSC increased the viral read count significantly in challenging human samples, with the highest genome coverage achieved using the TSC on the MinION. TSC also improved the genome coverage and sequencing depth in clinically relevant viruses in the animal samples, such as influenza A virus. However, SMg was shown to be adequate for characterizing a highly diverse animal virome. TSC on the MinION was comparable to the NextSeq and can provide a valuable alternative, offering longer reads, portability and lower initial cost. Developing new viral enrichment approaches to detect and characterize significant human and animal viruses is essential for the One Health Initiative.A low FODMAP diet (LFD) has been hypothesized to relieve symptoms of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGD) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The aim of the study was to systematically review the literature for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effectiveness of the LFD in patients with IBD and FGD. Four databases were searched, but a meta-analysis was not performed due to methodological and outcomes heterogeneity. Four RCTs fulfilled the criteria, with three having some concerns in their risk of bias assessment. All interventions compared the LFDs against a "typical" or sham diet, spanning in duration from 21 days to 6 weeks. Quality of life was improved in two RCTs, while revealing inconsistent findings in the third trial, based on different assessment tools. The fecal assays revealed non-significant findings for most variables (fecal weight, pH, water content, gene count, and gut transit time) and inconsistent findings concerning stool frequency and short-chain fatty acids concentration. Levels of fecal calprotectin, CRP, or T-cell phenotype did not differ between intervention and comparator arms. Two RCTs reported a reduction in abdominal pain, while results concerning pain duration and bloating were inconsistent. In one trial, energy intake was considerably reduced among LFD participants. Regarding gut microbiota, no differences were noted. A considerable degree of methodological and outcome heterogeneity was observed, paired with results inconsistency. The available data are not sufficient to justify the claim that an LFD induces relief of FGD symptoms, although it may pave the way to a placebo response.
