What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?
Unlike older keys, modern car keys have specific chips in them that are specific to each vehicle. This prevents thieves from simply taking the key and then turning on the car.

Transponder Codes

It is also used to send specific messages to the air traffic control system in a crisis or to inform controllers to changes in weather conditions. Every aircraft has a transponder that responds to radar probes with an identifier code. This allows ATC to identify the aircraft on a busy radar screen. Transponders can be configured to respond in a variety of ways when questioned. Mode A only transmits the code, whereas mode C also includes altitude information. Even though a longer PIN may seem more secure than a smaller one, it's still possible to hack or guess even the four-digit PIN. It is recommended that a PIN be at least six digits long, using a mix of numbers and letters, to ensure greater security. Certain OEMs also require PIN codes for the aftermarket key programmer to ensure security, to prevent non-authorized persons from stealing data from modules.
VIN Numbers
VIN numbers are used to identify vehicles and provide a wealth of information about them. VIN numbers are unique to every vehicle on earth and are not applicable to alien vehicles (or whatever). The 17 digits in a VIN code are made up of the combination of letters and numbers that can be decoded to reveal crucial details about your car or truck.
