Last issue, Salaak disappeared into some kind of time portal to the future and this month picks up with him in that time period. Only he’s not Salaak anymore, but instead Pol Manning!
As the 58th Century’s Solar Director, Salaak fights invasions by the Breakers, an armored group of soldiers seeking to carve out part of the world as their own. He’s in love with a woman named Iona, happy and unaware of the truth of his nature.
We then flashback to some of Hal Jordan’s earliest adventures as Green Lantern when he was transferred to the future in the same way and given the alter ego of Pol Manning and the relationship with Iona. He ultimately figured out their game and stopped them, but when the loss of Pol threatened to drive Iona insane, the Solar Council decided to resummon Hal in order to help her and fight the Breakers. With Hal off-planet, they beamed a different Green Lantern to the future in the form of Salaak.
Back in the twentieth century, Ch’p and Doctor Ub’x use their combined powers to travel to the 58th Century under their own power. They arrive in the midst of a fleeing group of Breaker warriors. They quickly learn they aren’t Breakers, but rather The B’rks, a group of “monks” like them. Ub’x deduces this is the civilization he seeks to evolve back on Earth, while Ch’p falls head over heels for M’rr’y, one of the B’rk warriors. Forced into the deepest corner of the planets and in need of a space to call their own, the B’rks’ cause attracts them both and they agree to help them carve out a place for themselves in the universe. But when Ch’p questions them about the whereabouts of Salaak, he learns he’s the one fighting them.
As Iona’s implanted memories seem stretched too thin, Ch’p arrives to confront Pol Manning. He and the Solar Director battle for a few moments, but Ub’x’s aid allows him to restore Salaak’s memories. Our issue ends with a furious Salaak vowing revenge against all of the Solar Council!
