I’m supposed to write a Medium post.
Now that Postlight is a couple of months old, it’s time to keep a steady stream of content flowing. Tweets, Instagram photos, Medium posts — we should use all channels available to market the company.
I’ve got a few topics that I could write about. They’re not much more than thoughts that I’d banter on about in a bar. Are they interesting? Dare I say compelling? More importantly:
will they generate trafficwhich will in turn raise the profile of Postlightwhich will in turn lead to more inbound opportunities? For fuck’s sake.
I suppose this puts a post like this in the category of sponsored content? Though not quite. I’m not a third party writing about Postlight’s virtues masked in the look and feel of an article. I’m a co-founder writing about something else. The aim is to look smart. If I look smart then Postlight looks smart and if Postlight looks smart…you get the idea.
The one thing sponsored content (or native advertising) has in common with a company blog post is that they’re both disingenuous sometimes. Sometimes it’s a rock solid piece of writing that comes from a very sincere place. It just happens to be posted under the company’s banner. Just not always.
With all this in mind, I would like to publicly commit to labelling any bullshit post I put up here as Promoted By Postlight, just like the way Jolly Rancher promoted this Buzzfeed list:
In all other cases, rest assured that I’m writing from a sincere place with no hidden agenda. It’s just me expressing myself or sharing a thought or idea.
As for Paul Ford, you’ll have to ask him.
