Wild Beasts - Punk Drunk And Trembling (Official Audio)
breitling uhr

Happy Monday, loopers! Here are this week’s most exciting new releases (subscribe to our weekly New Music newsletter here)…
1. WILD BEASTS — PUNK DRUNK & TREMBLING Sad news… Wild Beasts are calling it a day 😢. Here’s what the band had to say about their decision:
“The four of us have decided, for our own reasons and in our own ways, that it is now time to leave this orbit. We’re caretakers to something precious and don’t want to have it diminish as we move forward in our lives.”
If you’re as sad as we are by the news, then perhaps this new song will cheer you up…
Punk Drunk & Trembling is the lead single to a new (and final) 3 song EP from the band, which is out October 20th and follows up their excellent 2016 album, Boy King.
The band have also announced a series of farewell concerts, so head on over to the Concerts tab on their LetsLoop profile to grab yourself some tickets before they all run out.
2. FIRST AID KIT — IT’S A SHAME Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit, aka sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, are back with a delightful new song called It’s A Shame, their first new release since March’s You are the Problem Here, which was released to coincide with International Women’s Day.
It’s A Shame was produced by Tucker Martine (who has worked with an incredible array of artists including The Decemberists, R.E.M., My Morning Jacket, Sufjan Stevens, Modest Mouse, Spoon, Grandaddy and many, many more) and is expected to feature on the duo’s highly-anticipated follow-up to 2014’s Stay Gold.
In a statement, the Söderberg sisters said the track explores “the emptiness and desperation you feel after a relationship has come to an end”, which probably explains the delightfully melancholic sound.
The duo have also announced a series of tour dates, so be sure to head over to the Concerts tab on their LetsLoop profile to grab some tickets before they all run out.
3. LITTLE DRAGON — PEACE OF MIND (FEAT. FAITH EVANS) Sticking with the Swedes… less than 6 months on from their latest album, Season High, Swedish electropop band Little Dragon are back with a new single called Peace Of Mind.
The new track sees the band teaming up with Faith Evans at the suggestion of producer Raphael Saadiq. Here’s what frontwoman Yukimi Nagano had to say about the collaboration:
“It was kind of like a dream come true. I still can’t really get that it happened, and when I listen to the song I feel really honoured to be on the same track as her.”
4. MICHAEL CERA — BEST I CAN (FEAT. SHARON VAN ETTEN) Actor and musician Michael Cera has teamed up with American indie-rocker Sharon Van Etten on a new song called Best I Can, which will feature on his soundtrack to the upcoming documentary DINA.
The film is about a love story between Dina Buno, an outspoken and eccentric 49-year-old who lives in suburban Philadelphia, and her fiancé Scott Levin. You can watch the trailer and grab yourself some cinema tickets here.
You probably know Michael best for his roles in Superbad, Juno, Arrested Development and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but he is also an accomplished musician and released his debut album, True That, back in 2014. If you’d like a quick taste, check out his song Clay Pigeons.
5. TOM ROGERSON & BRIAN ENO — MOTION IN FIELD It’s strange to think that this beautiful song only exists because Brian Eno & pianist Tom Rogerson bumped into each other “outside the restroom after a gig”. Serendipity at its finest.
Motion In Field is the lead single to a new collaborative album from the duo called Finding Shore, which will be out December 8th on Dead Oceans.
6. GLEN HANSARD — TIME WILL BE THE HEALER Glen Hansard’s journey from 13-year-old penniless Dublin busker to Oscar-winning songwriter (for Falling Slowly on the soundtrack to his film, Once) is quite a tale, so it’s great to have the storytelling Irishman back.
Time Will Be The Healer is the lead single to the Irish singer-songwriter’s upcoming 3rd solo album, Between Two Shores, which is out January 19th and follows up 2015’s Didn’t He Ramble.
7. WILLIAM PATRICK CORGAN — THE SPANIARDS The Spaniards is the second single from William Patrick Corgan (aka The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan)’s much-anticipated Rick Rubin-produced album, Ogilala, which is out October 13th and follows up his 2005 debut solo album, TheFutureEmbrace.
The track is accompanied by a video featuring scenes from his upcoming short film Pillbox, which was written by Corgan and is soundtracked by the music on Ogilala. You can watch the trailer here.
Here’s what Billy had to say about his new album and working with Rubin:
“For as long as I can remember the delineation point between songs I wrote for myself and songs I’d pen for whatever band was something I couldn’t explain. And it remains so, for they all feel quite personal to me, no matter their time or era. The lone difference on songs for Ogilala is that they seemed to want little in the way of adornment.
Having written the songs for voice and guitar, I put myself in Rick’s hands to take the music wherever he’d like. Normally I would have done more, and tinkered more on production, but rather Rick put the onus on me to deliver at a molecular level via live takes. The rest was simply a reaction.”
Ogilala will be Billy’s first release since 2014’s Monuments To An Elegy album with The Smashing Pumpkins and will also feature the recently released lead single Aeronaut.
8. COURTNEY BARNETT & KURT VILE — CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST Continental Breakfast is the second single from Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile’s upcoming collaborative album, Lotta Sea Lice, which is out October 13th on Matador Records. It will be joined on the new album by the recently released lead single, Over Everything.
The duo have also announced a series of North American tour dates, kicking off in San Diego in October. Tickets are likely to go fast, so do yourself a favour and head over to their website to grab some before they all disappear.
Lotta Sea Lice is Courtney’s first new album since her stunning 2015 debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, and Kurt’s first since 2015’s B’lieve I’m Goin Down….
9. SUDAN ARCHIVES — WATER It’s only been a couple of months since multi-genre (R&B, electronic & more) violinist and vocalist Sudan Archives released her breathtaking debut EP, Sudan Archives, but she is already back with a gorgeous new single called Water.
The Eric Coleman-directed video for Water features footage of Sudan’s recent trip to Ghana, where she taught music production to local children. Here’s what she had to say about that experience:
“I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to go and teach the skills I’ve learned and inspire the students to create with the tools that they already have.”
There’s still no details of her highly-anticipated debut album yet sadly, but she did announce some concert dates supporting Moses Sumney and Shabazz Palaces. So be sure to head over to the Concerts tab on her LetsLoop profile to grab yourself some tickets before they all run out.
If you’re new to Sudan Archives and would like to hear more, we highly recommend listening to Time, Paid and the stunning Come Meh Way.
10. ALDOUS HARDING — ELATION It just goes to show how special New Zealand singer-songwriter Aldous Harding’s most recent album is that this gorgeous track didn’t even make the final cut.
Recorded with regular PJ Harvey collaborator John Parish during the sessions for Party, Elation is a beautiful stripped back track that easily holds its own against any of the songs on that album.
