It was also adept at maneuvering and didn't bump into my bar stools like the iRobot j7+ in this test. The only drawback is that the ION XL is unable to detect toys, cords and shoes that may be in its path therefore you'll need to pre-clean your house before using this vacuum to stay clear of these items.

The ION XL robotic cleaner isn't as sophisticated as the iRobot j7+ but it's a good alternative if you don't need to spend more than $500 on a robot. It is better than the less expensive RoboVac 11S in most ways and is easier to maintain and incurring lower recurring costs. It also performs better of vacuuming floors with no carpet and picking up pet hair, but it does not do as well on low- or high-pile carpet.
