What to Do With Your Rep Kit

Repair Patches

Consider adding adhesive patches to your kit if you have several holes in your equipment. These heavy-duty patches come with an ultra-high-performance adhesive that is applied to a tough polyurethane back that allows the tear to heal under pressure. Available in clear or colored versions they offer a long-lasting protection against punctures, moisture saltwater, sunlight and temperatures that are extreme.

If your kit doesn't include any of the above items it is possible to think about adding a waterproof Aquaseal wader sealant. The water-tight adhesive bonds to metals and fabrics to provide an indestructible fix. This is ideal for repairs to drysuits, and is also employed in the field. Let the sealant sit for up to 12 hours to set before utilizing the repaired equipment.

The essential field repair kit for nylon tents with silicone impregnated, packs, rainwear and more. This kit includes one Clean Tape patch and a sil-nylon repair swatch as well as a 1/4 ounce tube of Goretex Sil-Fix repair adhesive & sealant and brush. These patches are ideal for those who don't want wait until they get back on the trail. Simply roughen the tube using the included scraper, then apply one of the self-adhesive patches and apply it to the tube.

Use the tube-scuffer to roughen up the surface. This will help the glue stick. Spread a thin layer on the patch. Cover an area that is at least big as the patch. Allow the glue to become tacky, then press the patch down with a firm pressure and secure it.

This kit contains two adhesive-backed clear Tenacious Tape pressure sensitive fabric repair patches as well as a 1/4 ounce tube of Seam Grip urethane repair adhesive & sealant. It is perfect for reinforcing damaged sleep bags, rainwear and other packs.
