Qualitative
Non-numerical data that can be organized by categories.
Examples: type of pet, eye colour
Quantitative
Data that is numerical and acquired through counting or measuring
Examples: number of customers, dollar amount of sales
Discrete data - data that can only take certain values; they are determined by counting.
Example: number of people at a movie theatre, the results of rolling two dice
Continuous data - data that can take any value within a range.
Example: a person’s weight, the length of a desk

Is this discrete or continuous data: “The amount of time it takes you to get to school”
Understand the question
Can this data only take a certain value? Is it a “clean and clear” number? No. For example, I can measure this number in second or minutes. There can also be a decimal to this answer.
Example - Sorting Data
Your principal sends out a survey to find out how students get to school. The questions are below. Sort these questions as data that is qualitative, quantitative discrete, or quantitative continuous.
How do you get to school? (walk, drive, bus)
How far is the distance from school to your home?
How many siblings do you have?
