What is Avon UK?
Avon is a county that is ceremonial in the West of England. The two main cities it has are Bristol and Bath. The name is derived from the River Avon.
Avon is the largest direct-sales company in the world. Six million women are exposed to an Avon brochure every three weeks. Their multibillion-dollar merchandise is sold via their global army of sales representatives.
Established in 1886
Avon is the fourth-largest pure-play beauty company and connects 6.5 million people across 100 countries. The company's culture of business and products reflect its ethos of women for women. Its logo, for instance has pink shades and mother-of pearl, to show femininity. Additionally all letters, excluding the "n" are depicted as capital letters, to emphasize their importance and power.
David McConnell founded the company in 1886. He was a traveler book salesman who noticed that women customers, typically women who were at home in the afternoon, were more interested in the free perfume samples he offered them. He hired them as sales agents and the Avon business was born.
Today, Avon is one of the world's largest cosmetics companies and a household name across many countries. Avon is renowned for its charitable efforts, including campaigns to tackle gender-based violence and breast cancer. It also demonstrates leadership on environmental issues, with its own dedicated sustainability team.
Avon's founder was a strong believer in empowering women. This was a radical concept at the time, as women were expected to stay home and take care of their families. Avon's model of business gave women the opportunity to earn their income and also achieve personal success. Avon is still run by Angela Cretu, a shrewd woman. reps-r-us.co.uk is the overall person responsible for business operations outside of Latin America, as well as overseeing the brand globally.
The company specifically designed for women.
AVON is a company that offers food and mascara on the lashes. It's the company that fights wrinkles with one hand and breast cancer with the other, that recognizes the importance of a flawless lip, but is still able to open its mouth to speak against domestic violence and for women's financial independence. It's the company that provides six million Representatives across the globe.
Established by David H McConnell in 1886 to empower women financially, the company is now a leading cosmetics brand and is one of the oldest direct selling companies with more than 130 years of experience under its belt. Despite its age, it's at the leading edge of modern beauty and social selling with a huge range of products including skincare, fragrance, colour cosmetics, fashion jewellery and accessories including lingerie, home and personal care.
Rather than focussing on traditional retail outlets The company's 5 million Representatives (or "Reps") sell products directly to customers, whether face to face or via the internet and build relationships along the way. This is a strategy that has been tested over time. It gives mothers, fathers, students, entrepreneurs in their early years and retirees the flexibility to work on their terms while earning. This model is more applicable than ever as the pandemic alters working patterns. The latest AVON campaign highlights various female role models. From an London beatboxer to an art restorer, and an astronomer. They all embrace their inner power.
You are in control.
Over the past 135 years Avon has stood for progress for women by encouraging women of all ages to run their own business and earn a steady income. Avon's legacy is in existence today thanks to its famous earning opportunity that allows mothers or students, as well as young entrepreneurs to control their own destiny. The brand is known for encouraging women to embrace their own strength and confidence with its catchy slogan 'Ding Dog Avon calling'.
The brand new 'Embrace your Power' global platform and visual identity, as well as a creative approach and integrated campaign were developed in partnership with Wunderman Thompson UK and is founded on the belief that every woman is born with the power to be who she is, but gender inequality stifles this power. Avon seeks to recognize these strengths by enabling women to attain financial independence, connect them through a community of beauty lovers and offer aspirational beauty products at irresistible value which is particularly important considering the high cost of living.
The brand will also debut on Amazon in the UK for the first time in order to boost its omnichannel approach and reach a wider market. More than 300 of Avon's skincare and cosmetics are available for purchase on Amazon with the option to purchase through an Avon rep in-person or online.
This approach is already paying dividends, with Avon's Awareness Score - which measures the sentiment of consumers toward a myriad of brands growing among Britons older than 50 by four percentage points since the campaign's launch.
Support the causes that are important to you
The early sales model of Avon was primarily driven by a network of representatives. One of Avon's early representatives Mrs. P.F.E Albee, from Winchester was a role-model for the present Avon Representatives. She was an early pioneer in her field, offering women an inspired means to earn their own money and become financially independent in a time when women didn't even have the right to vote.
AVON is committed to advancing causes that are essential to women, specifically those suffering from breast cancer and domestic abuse. Through our Avon Foundation we support charitable education, scientific and research activities as well as humanitarian and humane causes around the world. We are particularly focused on helping women enhance their quality of life.
Avon UK donated more than 22 million PS to two domestic violence charities: Refuge and Women's Aid. Avon UK also supported the Refuge campaign 'Four Ways To Speak Out', which calls on one third of local authorities in the UK to offer specialist services for children and women to end violence based on gender.
Avon's legacy is a part of popular culture. The iconic ding dong Avon lady which was first introduced in 1954 was immortalized by Tim Burton in his gothic classic Edward Scissorhands. Avon's reputation for quality is evident in its iconic Avon brochure, which has reached over six million people a week since its first release in 1905.
