How to Replace a Toyota Key Fob Battery

Finally, the issue may be that you need a new fob shell. You can make it yourself, but you'll require some tools. You'll need able pry the case open, which might require a screwdriver, or some force. Then, you'll need to purchase an additional key fob case, and you can usually find a cheaper one online.
Broken Key Fob Battery Case
Key fob batteries can stop working or even break. Fortunately, replacing the battery in the Toyota key fob is simple and cost-effective. You can buy the replacement at your local hardware store or home improvement store, or even a number of electronic stores. The fob usually requires one coin-style button battery. It should be marked with the size of the battery. It may also include the sign of a plus or minus to help you identify the proper way to insert the battery into the fob.
Open the fob with your key (Newer Models), or a thin, but strong object that fits in the slot or notch. Once the case has been opened, you can take off the circuit board and replace it. Be sure to recycle your old battery. You can check your owner's manual or YouTube videos to learn how to do it.
If your key fob is damaged beyond repair, you'll need to buy an entirely new key from your local Hilton Head dealer. Bring your Toyota key together with your current registration and insurance card to the service technician. The dealer will need your VIN to create a new key for your car.

Transponder Chip Issues
If you've been having problems with your key fob, it could be that the transponder chip inside has gone off.
