The SHOCKING case that baffled detectives
Hollis said he was a young dark-tanned man under 30-years-old while Larey said he was a light-skinned African-American. As is the case with high profile murder cases, there were numerous false confessors, one of which was University of Arkansas freshman, 18-year-old H.B. “Doodie” Tennison, who committed suicide in November of 1948.
The man then demanded that Hollis remove his trousers. Hollis had initially resisted but complied, only to be struck hard in the head either with the gun or some other object. Thinking it was probably a robbery, Larey was scared but pulled Hollis’ billfold out of his trousers to show the man that Hollis had no money. She replied that she didn’t have one and she was knocked to the ground by the assailant after being struck with an object.



B.'s suicide and more than 3.5 years after the Phantom Killings stopped was that of H. Gonzaullas explained that the machine would aid in the investigation by allowing them to be connected with other law enforcement offices in Texas. Sheriff Presley and Sheriff Davis suggested raising a reward fund of $2,500 for information that would help them catch the killer of Virgil Starks. They mentioned that if the slayer of Mr. Starks was the same killer responsible for the other murders, then the Starks reward would be combined with the other rewards making it a sum of $10,000.
The manhunt for the Phantom has been called the most extensive in the history ofthe Southwest. The fantastic series of crimes attributed to the Texarkana Phantom began on a dark night in February -- Feb. 22, 1946. They were the second couple killed by the "phantom" slayer.

Whether or not Youell Swinney was Texarkana’s “Phantom Killer” is debatable but there was never another attack following his arrest. The identity of the so-called "Phantom Killer" who murdered 5 people in this sleepy town still remains unknown to this day. To this day, the Phantom Killer responsible for the Texarkana Moonlight Murders has never been identified. The murders have become part of the morbid history of the area. Each year around Halloween, the 1976 film The Town That Dreaded Sundown is shown in a local park as the finale of the annual “Movies in the Park” event hosted by the Texarkana Department of Parks and Recreation.
Police said the youth had made several rough drafts of his note in pencil and then completed typewritten copies. S brothers with the bullet which killed Virgil Starks at his rural home near Texarkana two years ago. The fountain pen, on which he had stuck a small quantity of poison of the same kind which he used to end his life, was a B. If I am out of the way, all of the family can get down to their own lives. This film shows pieces of that scene and then goes on to do a bad recreation/tribute. With no description from the other incidents, it cannot be certain if the same perpetrator or perpetrators were responsible, though it is generally assumed that the crimes were the work of a single individual. Some believed he was being secretly held at the Bowie County Jail or flown to another jail.
In addition, the location of the attack was different in that it was barely across the Arkansas state line and not near Spring Lake Park. Also, it was at a private residence rather than at a lover’s lane type location. Nearby departments brought in bloodhounds who followed a trail back to a highway, where it ended. The Sparks had valuables that were left untouched, though the killer could have panicked when he was not successful in killing Katie. The rewards in the case were increased to $10,000, a substantial amount of money in 1946.

Given all the evidence that I have seen, I find the evidence that H. B. Tennison was telling the truth to be entirely plausible. His death created almost as much of a sensation as did the slayings. The Texas department of public safety made the check after H.
When Amber's body was eventually recovered from the bottom of a creek, it was revealed that her throat had been slit and she was naked except for a single sock. All of the evidence had been washed away by the stream and the killer was never found. Because of the sheer brutality seen in Hagerman's case, the Amber Alert system for missing children was created.

This was no place for a tired motorman to pull off the road, not with so many motels and other safer areas within a stone's throw. The driver, thinking he should investigate, approached the vehicle. When he peered inside, he shrieked at what he saw and scooted off to immediately notify authorities. This one-of-a-kind enterprise works well and its 60,000-some citizens think of themselves as being of one mind and one city. They work together well and play together well, and meet every October at their famous Fair and Rodeo.
