Are You Responsible For An Best Robot Vacuums Budget? 10 Terrible Ways To Spend Your Money
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

The best way to keep your home tidy is with a robot vacuum. It can pick up pet hair, dust, and other surface debris.

Some robots are able to sync with smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Find models that recharge and resume cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop is a great choice for many homes. It can be used to vacuum and mop, has excellent navigation with both GPS and laser sensors, and comes with a variety of controls and features available via the app. It also has a handy feature that allows you to create Cleaning zones for specific areas that require more attention, as well as Keep Out zones that you don't want it to be. And, like our homepage , it gets new software updates that make it even better over time.

It's costly however, it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has evaluated. It's got a huge battery that can clean the entire house in less than two hours. It also switches between mopping and vacuuming at the press of one button. It automatically emptys the trash bin that is above its charging station, unlike other self emptying robots which require you to empty the bin after each run.

It also has a number of other options, like intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras and processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests, it was the best at avoiding objects like power cables. However, it's not as effective in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

While the Anker-owned Eufy has earned an impact in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it's never offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. That's changed with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features and is able to compete against more expensive models.

The most significant selling point for Eufy with this machine is its laser navigation. The previous Eufy devices have created an approximate map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into things but the X8's laser mapping technology is far more precise. It also takes a lot less time to build up a comprehensive picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is ideal for multi-floor homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are adept at grabbing edges and corners. It's not a fantastic cat litter scooper, however our tests have shown it only removes about 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

There's a mopping mode which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming one. While this is great for spills that are not too large, you can't control how much water it is using, which will limit its effectiveness when dealing with more severe stains. It's effective of removing hair from pets. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, effective appliances. It features a stunning design, excellent navigation, and excellent cleaning power. It has some oddities in its operation that keep it from being named the top smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping system which uses LIDAR to map an area as well as a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and eliminating obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once mapped, the app lets you create virtual no-go zones as well as preferred areas that the robot will clean automatically. You can also begin an automatic clean or manually change the cleaning mode, view live feeds from the onboard cameras and more on the main screen.

The RX2 has superior sensors that can detect furniture and other obstructions instantly. The suction and sweeping abilities are outstanding, effectively removing surface litter from carpets of medium pile and also removing dust that has been deposited on floors. It's not the fastest robotics available. It's not the best climber, and it has problems with metal threshold transition strips.

Many people purchase robot vacuums for the convenience of setting up a schedule using an app, and then forgetting about them for weeks. It's crucial that a robot can do the job and that's the reason our ZDNet staff looked over and tested a number of the most popular ones to help you find the right one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget-friendly robot is just like a typical robot, but it's a step up in performance and features. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It can even identify common obstacles such as furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor, and an infrared drop sensor which keeps it away from the stairs make it one of the most flexible vacs we've tried.

In our tests, it effortlessly moved over large shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were impressive as well; its composite score in carpet and bare floors topped the competition and it picked up 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are more basic than those of the competition's. There is a cleaning button at the top, and you can choose to start it by using the app or via voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule weekly or daily cleanings, designate no-go zones, and look up its history of cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and is attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is accessible to empty, and the removal of the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a great option for those looking for a vacuum cleaner that is easy to use and doesn't have any frills at a reasonable price. It doesn't have many of the more advanced features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in higher-end models but if you're not looking for these features, you can save money by purchasing this model.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It does not require a smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However, it does come with a remote control which allows you to choose between various modes and adjust the suction level. You can also manually assign the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.

In our tests, the 11S was extremely efficient in removing pet hair and dirt on hard floors and low-pile carpets. Its slim profile allowed it to pass under furniture that is low-hanging and other objects that larger robots are unable to reach. It was also able to pass over doorway thresholds and transition from one floor type to another.

Like other robots, the 11S can be able to suck up objects such as cords, drawstrings for hoodies and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can prevent this by keeping these objects off the floor and by using an organizer for cords if you can. It also suggests that you regularly clean the dustbin, replace the filters, and wash or change the brushes as required.

6. iRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's expensive, but it's top-performing and, in some ways, the most advanced robot vacuum you can buy. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are truly a marvel to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than many competitors, such as the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile application. Although its app isn't the most responsive and the 980 may spin a bit when moving over cables, it's still a very capable robot vacuum.

We love the 980 due to its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneity mapping and localisation (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It then uses this information to design an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

Other features of the 980 include two multi-surface rubber brushes that pick up dirt from carpets and hard floors and a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors help it navigate around furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling down the stairs. It will automatically return to its base station to ensure hassle-free recharges between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size isn't as good as those of other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep your floors clean for hours on end.
