How To Explain Shark I Robot Vacuum To Your Grandparents
The Shark i Robot Vacuum

The Shark i robot vacuum is a great mid-range robot. It does an excellent job of cleaning and comes with interesting features.

It does a great job of cleaning and employs row-by-row patterns for cleaning floors. It also works well on rugs, and can move over tassels of rugs.

Features

The Shark i has a number of outstanding features, such as its innovative navigation technology and self-emptying dock. Its IQ navigation system utilizes a matrix grid for cleaning room-by-room. This makes sure that no area of your home is left unclean. It also emptys its trash bin into the bagless base after every cleaning, making it totally hands-free.

The I can also be controlled by Amazon Alexa and the SharkClean App, so there is no need for an additional remote. The vacuum also has a button at the top to manually operate the vacuum.

The app allows you to create a profile on your vacuum, name it, schedule cleanings and see the history of cleaning. You can also create virtual boundaries to block the i from entering places it could be stuck in or even knock over delicate objects. You can also select different power modes to help save energy when doing tough jobs.

Other important features include its NeverStuck technology as well as two grippy wheels that help it get over obstacles such as stairs or floor transitions. It can also detect and navigate around obstacles like electrical cords, which can be helpful for pet owners with small sheds on their cats or dogs.

The i comes with three power settings. There's an energy-saving Eco Mode, a Normal Mode by default, and a Max Power mode. You can also make custom cleaning schedules to individual rooms or floors. This is great for those with an extensive home that requires frequent cleaning.

The i is able to be programmed to automatically return to its dock and empty its trash bin however, you must keep an eye on the battery life because it can overestimate how long it has left. It can also be confused and restart when you tell it to 'Clean the Home' and you must be careful when you start or stop it.

Design

The Shark i robot is sleekly designed and has a premium appearance. Its main drive wheels are covered in rubber treads, giving the robot excellent maneuverability. It is small and can be placed under most pieces of furniture. Despite vacuum and mop combo , it is able to climb over rugs with high piles and even reach under couches.

The robot has numerous sensors that help identify your home including boundary and cliff sensors. It also includes a vision module that can detect and avoid obstacles. The app lets you alter the settings of the robot and schedule cleaning times, and track its cleaning history. The app is easy to use, however it does not allow you to create virtual no go zones.

While the Shark i robot is a ideal choice for floors with no floor, it has trouble picking up large debris like hair from pets and gets stuck on surfaces that are cluttered. The dirt compartment can fill up making it difficult to empty after a cleaning session. The vacuum doesn't come with a self emptying dock. You'll need empty the dust bin manually when it becomes full.

The vacuum's battery life is short and often it is unable to recharge before it can return to its original location. It's also quite noisy and the app doesn't permit you to set specific areas to clean or skip. This is why it should be used in combination with another robot vacuum, not as a stand-alone machine. The value of delegating your vacuuming tasks to robots is undeniable. The iRobot Roomba has superior mapping and navigation capabilities and also an auto-emptying dock that can empty itself. It's also a bit cheaper than the Shark i robotic vacuum.

Cleaning Performance

While it can be tricky to get used to the robotic sound that comes with any robot vacuum, the Shark IQ seems to perform quite well in the vacuuming department. It isn't confused and doesn't repeat steps as do older Shark robots, like the ION85 or the RV871. The iQ does a great job of mapping your home. It makes an app-generated map, which allows you to identify the rooms so it can determine where it is moving.

It struggles with bare floors or rug. It can take in small particles however pet hair and heavier objects such as cereal and rice can be overwhelming for it. The dirt compartment can get full quickly and suction power will begin to reduce as it fills. This robot is not suitable for floors that are not bare or carpets with a lot of pile. It also gets blocked when it comes in contact with furniture that is tangled or furniture that is tipped.

It's easy for you to solve these problems by emptying its bin at the base. It also automatically emptys itself into the bin once it is full, which saves you the effort of emptying the trash bin after every run. The extra-large bin needs to be empty every 30 days, which reduces costs of ownership over the long term.

You can also make use of the SharkClean app to set different cleaning options and monitor its battery life, make schedules, look at your cleaning history and create virtual boundaries to prevent it from entering rooms where it may be stuck or hit fragile objects. The iQ can be controlled by hand using its remote, which has directional arrows to guide it through your home.

Battery Life

Even when in its high-suction "Max" mode the vacuum has excellent battery life. It can last for an hour in this mode and that's more than enough to complete most cleaning tasks. It also has a more energy-efficient 'Eco' mode that extends its maximum runtime to more than 160 minutes. This is a good feature to have if you frequently change rooms or are worried about running out of battery power when using the robot.

Like many of its competitors this vacuum cleaner comes with an impressive suite of automation features. The companion app allows you to see the remaining battery life, to send the vacuum to a certain area, pause or restart cleaning, and switch between power modes. It can also be controlled with voice commands if you own an Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa device compatible with it. It is equipped with physical boundary markers to ensure that the robot is kept from certain areas.

Although it is able to maneuver well but this Shark model has trouble sucking up bulky debris, especially when its dirt compartment is stuffed. It can also get stuck on electrical cords and rug tassels. It also gets stuck between the legs and the legs of chairs.

Overall, the Shark IQ robotic vacuum is an excellent option for those who want an entry-level robot with good mapping capabilities and user-friendly features. It's not as good as the Roborock S7 in most cases. The Roborock S7 is more durable and has less maintenance requirements. It also comes with lower costs. It recharges faster and has a longer battery life and performs better when on carpets and bare floors.
