20 Trailblazers Are Leading The Way In Best Robot Vacuums
Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

A robot vacuum is a great tool to maintain a clean home. It will pick up dust, pet hair and other particles on the surface.

Some robots sync with smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that are rechargeable and continue cleaning the area they left.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is a fantastic choice for many households. It vacuums and mops well and has a great navigation system that includes both GPS and laser sensors and offers a broad range of features and controls that are accessible via the app. It has a handy feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require additional attention, as well as Keep Out zones in areas where you don't want it to be. It also receives software updates, similar to all Roomba products, which make it better over time.

It's expensive however, it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has evaluated. It comes with a powerful battery that can clean a large home in under two hours. It can switch between vacuuming and mopping at the touch of a button. vacuum and mop combo will automatically empty the trash bin that is above its charging station, in contrast to other self-emptying robots that require you to empty it after each run.

It also has a number of other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance which uses cameras and processor-powered smarts in order to recognize obstacles. It's rarely tripped up or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests, it was the best in avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as precise in detecting pet waste or other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Eufy owned by Anker It has become a household name in the world of budget robot vacuums. But it didn't provide the option of a model that could mop. That's changed with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive set of modern features and is able to compete with more expensive models.

The laser navigation system is the most important feature of this machine. The X8 makes use of a laser mapping system that is more precise than previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to create a comprehensive map of your home. It can also store multiple maps. This is ideal for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is still a good vacuum on floors with no dust that can carry debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with relative ease. The tyres are adept at securing corners and edges even though they are circular. It's not a great kitty litter picker, though our tests have shown it is able to remove around 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

There's a basic mopping option which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming. This is great for spills that are not serious, but you can't limit the amount of water that it uses. However, it does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, with a higher pickup rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, powerful appliances. It features a stunning design, superb navigation and a powerful cleaning power. There are a few niggles in its operation that keep it from being named the top smart robot vacuum.

Similar to the latest models of iRobot, the RX2 comes with dual-sensor mapping that uses the LIDAR sensor to map out a room and three 3D scanning cameras to identify and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. Once the room is mapped the app allows you to designate virtual no-go zones and favorite sections that the robot will clean automatically. You can also manually change cleaning modes, start cleaning manually or watch live feeds from the onboard cameras from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well by registering furniture and obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction power are top-notch cleaning up surface debris from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust on floors that are unfinished. However, it's not exactly the most efficient robot available. As with many others, it's not a good climber and has issues with things like metal threshold transition strips.

A lot of people purchase a robotic vacuum for the ease of setting up a schedule using an app and not thinking about it for weeks at one time. It's crucial that a robot is capable of the task and that's why our ZDNet team has tested and examined some of the most popular models in order to help you select the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac is a robot that is similar to other, but comes with some extra features and better performance. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It's also able to detect common obstructions such as power cords and furniture legs in real time. This combination of sensors together with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it from falling down the stairs, makes it one of the most agile vacuums we've tried.

It was able to walk over thick shag carpets and did not get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigation skills were impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet beats the competition and it picked up 98.5 percent of the surface litter and embedded dog hair from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are simpler than the competitors. There's a cleaning button at the top and you can choose to start it with the app or via voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for daily or weekly cleans, create no-go zones, and view its history of cleaning. Ion is covered in a smart dark gray plastic that looks and feels beautiful in your home. Its rear dust bin is easy to empty and cleaning the filter is the same.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is a great option for those looking for an automated vacuum cleaner that is simple and doesn't have any frills at a cost that is low. It lacks some of the more advanced features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in higher-end models however, if you don't require those functions you can save money with this model.

This robot is simple to set up and use. It does not require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does come with the remote control that lets you choose between various modes and adjust the suction levels. You can also set up a manual schedule to send the robotvac on the schedule of cleaning.

In our tests, the 11S was extremely effective in removing pet hair and dirt from hard floors and carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to pass under furniture that is low-hanging and other items that larger robots are unable to reach. It could also easily get over thresholds for doors and move from one type of floor to another.

Like other robots, the 11S can take in some objects, such as cords drawstrings on hoodies and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests that you can prevent this from happening by keeping these items off the ground and using a cord organiser if possible. It also recommends that you regularly clean the dustbin, change the filters, and clean or change the brushes when needed.

6. iRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's costly, but it's top-performing and is arguably the most sophisticated robot vacuum available. Its self-navigation as well as environmental mapping is something to behold. It has more advanced automation than most of its competitors, such as the ability to create virtual boundary markers through its mobile app. Although its app isn't the most responsive, and the 980 does spin out a bit while moving over cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.

We love the 980, because it makes use of its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM), to memorise the floor plan of your home. It will then use that information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient robot vacuum than many high-end robotics.

Other features of the 980 include two multi-surface rubber brushes which grab dirt from hard floors and carpet, along with a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors help it navigate around furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect helps to prevent the Roomba from slipping down stairs. It will automatically return to its base station for easy recharging between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size aren't quite as impressive as some other robot vacuums, it's a solid and reliable machine that can keep your floors clean for hours at a time.
