Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos
The best method to keep your home tidy is to use a robotic vacuum. It can remove dust, pet hair and other debris on surfaces.
Some robots are able to sync with smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that can recharge and then resume cleaning where they left off.
1. iRobot S8
This smart robot vacuum and mop is a fantastic option for a wide range of homes. It is able to vacuum and mop well and is extremely navigable using both GPS and laser sensors, and comes with a variety of features and controls accessible through the app. It also comes with a useful feature that lets you create Cleaning zones for specific areas that need extra attention, and also to keep Out zones where you don't want it to go. Like all Roomba devices, it receives new software updates that make it even more efficient over time.
It's expensive but is also among the most sophisticated robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It's equipped with a powerful battery that can clean an entire home in less than two hours. Additionally, it can switch between mopping and vacuuming with the press of a button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the bin after each run, this one automatically emptys into the larger waste container that is above its charging dock.
It's got a range of other features that make it a good choice for homes with a lot of space that include intelligent obstacle avoidance, which uses both a camera and processor-powered smarts to detect obstacles. vacuum and mop combo gets derailed or stuck during cleaning, and it's the best in avoiding power cables and other objects I've tested. However, it's not as accurate in detecting pet waste and other hazards.
2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
While the Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in budget robot vacuums, it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model that could also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that has a wide range of modern features and can compete with much more expensive models.
The main selling point of Eufy's this device is its laser navigation. Previous Eufy devices have constructed an approximate map of your home using infrared sensors and bumping into things, but the X8's laser mapping system is far more precise. It also takes a lot less time to build up a comprehensive picture of your living space and also stores multiple maps, which is ideal for homes with multiple floors.
The X8 is still a good vacuum on floors with no dust that can carry debris under its side brushes and into the 400ml dust bin with relative ease. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are very adept at grabbing corners and edges. Our tests revealed that it could only remove 90 percent of the fur on hard floors.
There's a basic mopping option which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming one. While this is good for spills that aren't too big but you cannot control how much water it consumes which can limit its effectiveness on more severe stains. It is effective at picking up hair from pets. It has a higher pick-up rate than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is renowned for its quiet, powerful appliances. It features a stunning design, superb navigation and an impressive cleaning power. There are a few niggles in its operation that prevent it from being named the best smart robot vacuum.
The RX2 comes with a dual-sensor mapping technology that uses a LIDAR to map the space and a pair of 3D scanning cameras for detecting and staying clear of obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). After the room has been identified, you can designate virtual no-go areas and preferred sections to the robot. You can also start cleaning manually or change the cleaning mode, see live feeds from the cameras onboard and more from the main screen.
The sensors of the RX2 work well, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction power are top-notch, picking up surface litter from carpets of medium pile and dust in bare floors. It's not the fastest robotics available. Like many others it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like metal threshold transition strips.
Some people buy robot vacuums due to the ease of setting up a schedule in an app, only to forget about them for weeks. However, it's essential that a robot is able to accomplish the task that's the reason why our ZDNet staff examined and reviewed a few of the most popular models to help you find the right one for your home.
4. Shark ION
This budget-friendly robot is just like a typical robot, but it's an upgrade in performance and features. Its smart mapping system generates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses those to navigate and avoid obstacles. It can even detect common obstacles such as power cords and furniture legs in real-time. This combination of sensors, together with a bump sensor, and an infrared drop sensor which keeps it away from the stairs make it one of the fastest vacs we've tried.
In our tests, it effortlessly could climb over the thick shag rug and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were impressive as well and its overall score on carpet and bare floors was better than the competition and it took in 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.
The controls are more basic than the competition's. There's a cleaning button on the top and you can start it by using the app or voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set a schedule for your daily or weekly cleans, set areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check its cleaning history. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. The rear dust bin is easy to access for emptying and removing the filter is equally easy.
5. Eufy 11S
If you're looking for a basic robotic vacuum that is simple and has no frills for a reasonable price, the Eufy 11S is a great option. It doesn't have many of the advanced features, like digital mapping and Alexa integration, which are available in more expensive models, but if you don't need these features, you can save some money by purchasing this model.
This robot is simple to setup and use. It doesn't require a smartphone app or Wi-Fi pairing, but it does come with the ability to control the remote with a remote that lets you choose between different modes and adjust the suction level. It also allows you to manually send the robovac off on a scheduled cleaning.
During our tests during our tests, the 11S was extremely efficient in cleaning pet hair and dirt on hard floors and in low-pile carpets. Its slim profile allowed it to get under furniture and other low objects that more bulkier robots couldn't reach. It was also able to easily pass over doorway thresholds and move between floors and another.
The 11S, as with other robots, will also eat some items, including cords and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests you avoid this by keeping these items off the ground and using a cord organizer when you can. It also recommends that you regularly clean the dustbin, replace the filters, and wash or change the brushes as necessary.
iRobot Roomba 990
The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's pricey, but it's also the best robot vacuum that you can purchase. Its self-navigation and environmental mapping are a joy to behold. It has more advanced automation than most of its competitors, including the ability to set up virtual boundary markers with its mobile app. It's a capable robot vacuum, even if the application is a bit slow and the 980 spins when it comes across cables.
One thing we love about the 980 is the fact that it utilizes its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneous mapping and localisation technology (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It uses this information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.
Other features of the 980 include dual multi-surface brushes that grab dirt from carpets and hard floors and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum’s bin. The sensor for floor tracking helps it navigate between furniture, along edges and up steps. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. It will automatically return to its base station for hassle-free charging between sessions. The bin capacity and the battery life of the 980 aren't as great as other robot vacuums. However, it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep floors clean for many hours.
