Ten Self Emptying Vacuum Myths You Shouldn't Post On Twitter
The Best Self-Empting Vacuums

Robot vacuums are great for keeping your floors tidy. However, they have small dustbins that need to be emptied manually after each cleaning session. High-end models have self-emptying bases that eliminate this step and allows the user to clean hands-free.

The best self emptying vacuum comes with docking stations that can hold up to 45 days of debris, without intervention from you. These smart vacuums also can map your home and can avoid power cords as well as other obstacles.

1. Roomba S9+ from iRobot

iRobot invented self-emptying robot vacuums with the Roomba i7, and it took that technology to the next level with the s9+. This flagship model is expensive however it has the highest performance of any robovac we've tested and includes improvements that other brands can only dream of.

It first sucks dirt into its Clean Base automatically. It then emptys it into a large, dust bag, which you dispose of every 60 days. This is an excellent option for those who want to keep their home clean without touching it, but want to have peace of mind knowing your home is free of germs and allergens.

The s9+ also comes with advanced corner-cleaning capabilities that allow it closer to walls than earlier models could, and it's better at spot cleaning as well. If it determines that a particular area needs more attention it will send it back there with regular schedule. If the area is very dirty, the s9 will return to it with a stronger suction until all the mess is cleared away.

The s9+ can be controlled using the app that comes with it or via Amazon Alexa (the s9+ is compatible with both), which lets you give complete voice commands, including the ability to stopping, starting and pausing. You can program the robot to start and stop its work at a particular time, or let it decide when to return to its dock.

The s9+ is great for carpets that are not bare. It is able to take small pieces of debris, like rice, and bigger objects like cereal. It also excels at cleaning low-pile carpets and has a powerful suction, even when the dirt compartment is stuffed. However, it does not perform as well on carpets that are more dense.

2. Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra

The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is a robot vacuum and mop that can sweep, detect rugs and self-clean making it one of the best hands-free robotic cleaners on the market. Its advanced navigation and mapping systems provide an exceptional level of maneuverability. The companion app lets you to choose from a variety cleaning configurations. It also supports a wide variety of third-party applications that allow you to monitor your home as it is operating.

The S7 MaxV Ultra, like its predecessor, is excellent at sweeping carpets and hard floors. It did well in our tests for dirt pick-up and excelled when it came to cleaning tough tasks like the sand embedded test, as well as the carpet deep clean test. We perform these tests by weighing the dust bin of the robot both before and after the time period. The S7 MaxV Ultra also does a great job at mopping. It has enough suction to take care of small and large debris, as well as pet fur on bare floors. It struggles slightly more with hair on densely woven low-pile carpet, but it is able to suck up most of the hair on this type of floor.

This model is among the quietest we've tested with a maximum noise level of 57.5 dBA when in the low-power "Quiet" mode. It's not as quiet in its highest power 'Max' mode which generates over 80 dBA.

The S7 MaxV Ultra is equipped with docks that automatically fill the robot's water tank and emptying its dust bin. It's a little more complicated to set up than the X1 Omni, but it isn't difficult. Once you've set it up and set-up it will run on its own without the need of you.

3. Shark IQ Large

The Shark IQ Robot XL has an impressive suction and numerous smart features. It has a self-emptying bagless base and maps your home as it cleans to ensure total coverage. You can control the SharkClean using the SharkClean App or by voice commands via Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also use physical boundary markers to limit the access of the device.

It's minimalist, all-black appearance and feel. It is incredibly easy to put together from the box, requiring only a couple of snaps to connect the included side brushes and the charging dock. The dirt compartment is small, though, so you may have to empty it quite often.

In tests it was found that the IQ Robot XL quickly responded to app controls and performed well during cleaning cycles. The app lets you select power modes, make changes to settings, and track the robot's current battery level. The app also has a Find Robot button that helps you locate the device in case it is lost.

Like other Shark products, the IQ Robot XL has impressive suction that can easily tackle dust bunnies and pet hair. The self-cleaning brushroll keeps hair from sticking to the machine as it is combs away debris. The navigation module uses sensors to scan the surroundings as it moves. However, this process isn't as extensive as those that use LIDAR modules. It takes just a few clean cycles before the IQ Robot XL completely maps your space.

In comparison to the iRobot Roomba 690, the Shark IQ Robot XL is easier to maintain, incurs lower recurring costs and provides better performance across multiple surface types. However the iRobot is more durable, charges faster, and has similar battery power, and comes with an extensive set of automation capabilities that allow you to configure your home's coverage map using no-go zones.

4. Eufy 11S

The Eufy 11S is a great option for those looking for an automated vacuum that can be cleaned on their schedule but do not require a smartphone or voice command. The slim model is easy to set up and maintain and it is able to easily clean dirt and dust. It's perfect for cleaning light-duty daily to keep your floors looking good.

It's a little less impressive than the other top picks in our vacuums test program however, it has some benefits that are worth a look. Its small size allows it to get under low-profile furnishings which other vacuums can't. It also comes with an efficient 'Quick Cleaning mode, which makes use of multiple passes to keep your floors as clean as you can. The Smart Pathing feature isn't as efficient however it's enough to ensure that you don't repeat the same cleaning routes over and over again.

the advantage isn't as well as the iRobot Roomba S9+, however, it is better than the Coredy R550 (which is the same price) and bObsweep Bob Pro. The iRobot is built better, incurs lower costs for recurring repairs, has a bigger dirt compartment and lasts longer on charge, and moves more efficiently. It also clears pet hair more efficiently and does a better job on both floors and carpet.

The Eufy 11S will cost you more than the iRobot Roomba, but also more expensive than the Ecovacs. The iRobot Roomba 614 is more costly, but it's also better built and has a longer battery life and can be more prone to collecting dirt and dust. It's also more easy to maintain, incurs fewer expenses that are recurring, and has more automated features. The companion app is superior as well, providing more details about the vacuum's status and battery level.

5. Ecovacs Deebot Pro+

The robot vacuum might appear similar to others on the market, but it has some unique tricks in its bag. You can use the app to regulate the power levels, mops, and even set your preferences. The suction power of 2600Pa is impressive and, at 67dB, it's quieter than other robots I've used.

The Deebot N8 Pro+ is also able of avoiding obstacles thanks to its TrueDetect 3D laser. This technology uses structured light to scan a room and map out its contents, which means it can work around furniture, showpieces, shoes and charger cables. It's far more precise than other robots,, as it works at the millimeter scale to recognize small objects and plan an approach around them.

ECOVACS App allows you to monitor the robot's progress and schedule cleaning sessions, and also change settings from anywhere. It can create custom boundaries, too that gives you more control over the areas it cleans and helps keep it from family heirlooms that are important to you, messy school projects and laundry.

The app is simple to use, and the instructions are clear. The entire process of setting it up takes around an hour. After you've mapped your home, you can choose to let it run automatically or create a plan of cleaning for each room. It will return to its charging dock when the battery gets low, and will continue the same way it left off after it's fully charged. An auto-empty dustbin is included with the ECOVACS Deebot N8 Pro+, so you won't have to open the contents unless you want to change the dust bag.
