It is able to do a great job on carpets with a medium or low pile. It has a large dirt container and uses BoostIQ for automatic suction power adjustment. It also comes with a remote control that's easy to use and allows you to program daily cleanings using the app. The battery lasts about an hour and the bin is easy to empty by taking it from its dock.

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra robot mop and vacuum is an excellent robot with an impressive array of automated features. The Roborock S7 MaxV comes in three different versions of the basic S7 model, the S7 Plus model, and the S7 Ultra. Only the latter has an Empty Wash Fill Dock (or an alternative Auto-Empty Dock). It's also capable of scheduling and executing spot cleaning sessions. It performed well in the standard tests, but couldn't match the iRobot Roomba j7+ for the carpet deep cleaning test.

You can program the S7 with the companion app to run a cleansing cycle in accordance with your schedule. The app will inform you which power mode is currently selected which is Eco Normal, Normal, or Maximum - but we found that none of these settings made an obvious difference in cleaning performance.

The IQ XL will automatically empty the trash bin at the end of a cleaning cycle into the base, and then self-empty. Its bin holds up to 60 days' worth of trash It won't require emptying more frequently than that unless you have lots of pets with long hair. If you have to empty it, all you have to do is untie the side bin, put it over a trash container, and press a button to empty its contents.

The Shark IQ XL is a good vacuum cleaner. It does a good job of cleaning bare floors and can maneuver itself well. However, the Shark IQ XL feels a little less solidly built than the Roomba 694. It does a good job at cleaning carpeted floors, but doesn't match the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to the performance of bare floors. The i7 also feels more robust, more durable, requires less maintenance, has lower recurring costs and charges faster, and offers comparable battery performance. It also comes with more advanced features for automation, like no-go zones and the ability to select the rooms that should be cleaned.


iRobot J7+

This robot vac and mop combination is a rare find that can do both tasks well. The iRobot Combo j7+ has all the smarts of its j7 counterpart including self-emptying and LiDAR mapping, however, it also comes with additional features for both mopping and vacuuming.

The new acoustic sensors assist the j7+ identify floor types, so it can choose between vacuuming and mopping on the first pass through an area. This information is also utilized to help prioritize cleaning rooms that have carpets and rugs versus those with hard flooring.

The j7+ is quieter than the majority of robotic vacuums when running and even more quiet when it's mopping. The highest reading we could get on our decibel meter was 64db, which is similar to the sound of normal office chatter.

It is easy to set up an cleaning schedule and then change the way that dust is cleaned when the canister is full. The j7+ can also be controlled with voice assistants (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.) The app lets you create and view maps in your home.

The J7+ has a few minor flaws. One of them is that it can be caught on rugs or cords and it doesn't always turn off the mopping function when it's done vacuuming. Otherwise, this is an excellent model that checks all the right boxes.

The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the best self-emptying systems we've seen.
