"The Self-Emptying Robot Vacuums Awards: The Top, Worst, Or Weirdest Things We've Seen
Self-Empting Robot Vacuums

The need to empty your robot vacuum on each cleaning cycle can be very annoying especially for those suffering from allergies. Not to mention the dirt and debris gets kicked back into the air every when you empty your robot.

Self-emptying bases limit the risk of dust exposure because the robot moves debris from its trash bin to a bigger trash bin once it is full.

The Samsung Jet Bot+

Samsung's robot is the most advanced robot we've examined. It has excellent filtration along with a brilliant navigation system, as well as the ability to empty the dustbin without hands. It also features HEPA filtering capabilities and can trap in airborne particles to prevent allergies. The top of the device is an adjustable brush bar that rotates with soft bristles that can get into corners that are tight. It also comes with self-cleaning extractors that break up hairs to avoid tangles.

The Jet Bot picked up a large amount of debris from my carpets and hardwood floors when I tried it. It missed a couple of tiny things in the corner of my dining room and required a second look at them however, it did a great job overall. In comparison to the Roomba, it edged the other one in my tests as its side brush was able to reach better along edges and was more powerful in terms of picking up smaller pieces of debris.

The Samsung Jet Bot is controlled by the SmartThings app and can be set up to clean automatically at times that are convenient for you. It can be programmed to clean certain areas or rooms. You can also set physical and virtual no-go zones as well as ones.

It utilizes LiDAR sensor technology similar to that used by self-driving vehicles for mapping and navigation. A camera is also located in front of the device for smart object recognition. This is a feature that assists in avoiding collisions with furniture or other objects and to determine the most efficient way to move between rooms. It also flags any object that it believes to be "poop" and provides an educated guess (it can choose from three recurring options of sock, towel or cup / plate).

The SmartThings App allows you to schedule cleaning times and track the robot's status. You can also track what's happening on the map. It can also be set to inform you when the robot's bin is full, and it will return to its dock at this point to empty itself before resuming its cleaning cycle. The 0.3L dust bin can be easily emptied and washed as it is fully enclosed.

The iRobot Roomba 980

The Roomba is iRobot's most expensive robot. It's also a top performer, putting it in the same league with the top self-emptying robotic vacuums, when it comes to cleaning power. This is due to its HEPA filters and powerful battery. It's also got a nifty little feature called CarpetBoost which automatically boosts power when it senses it's on carpet, which is nice.

As with the previous Roomba models, this model's frame is circular and it has a single clear opening at the top that carries cameras. This model is a smart choice because of its camera. It uses the camera to perform VSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) by analyzing distinctive features in a room and then storing the features. It compares the data with the data from the relative positioning gyro, and IMU as well as wheel odometry to produce a map of where it is.

It's a clever system that performs well, even on carpets which is where the Roomba isn't able to cope. The 980 also comes with innovative features, including the ability to create the weekly routine for cleaning and play a tune to help you locate your robot. The front panel has a large "Clean", which will start your robot. There are indicators that indicate when it's charging or connected to Wi-Fi as well as when the bin is empty.

The 980 has a basic spot cleaning feature that can be used to get rid of small messes. However it isn't able to cover as much as more sophisticated options. If you have some wires that pose a danger to your robot, you can utilize the virtual wall feature to create a barrier that will tell it to stay away from them.

The software that comes with the 980 is also very simple to use, and it'll give you an impressive visual overview of how your robot is running and what it's working on. You can also set your schedule and play with other settings, such as bin capacity as well as reduced power mode and many more.

The iRobot Roomba 960

The name iRobot is almost synonymous with robot vacuums and the $700 Roomba 960 is somewhere in the middle of the company's vast range of models. It's less expensive than the 980, which is the most expensive model, however it has many of the same features including a camera to navigate and a smartphone app that provides detailed cleaning maps and reports. It also comes with a Virtual Wall, which creates an invisible barrier that the Roomba will not cross.

The 960 performed well during our tests, especially on floors that were not paved. It sucked up a lot of cat litter, food crumbs and tracked in dirt. It also excels in climbing over obstacles like stair runners and the legs of chairs and tables. It also took in pet fur, but it was unable to handle smaller particles, like baking soda.

One thing that separates the 960 from other Roomba models is that it has a separate dustbin for large particles that reduces maintenance needs. It can be empty at the touch of a button, either through the iRobot HOME app or by using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice commands.

The iRobot HOME App allows you to customize each cleaning cycle. You can set the number of passes and choose between different options like edge clean, or a complete room sweep. It also sends an alert when it's about to empty the dirt container.

The 960 is simple to use it has buttons on the top and buttons that are accessible in the iRobot Home app or via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It's also simple to maintain and has an indicator at the top that shows battery's lifespan and an automatic docking station that transfers dirt from the dirt compartment to the trash bin when you're ready to empty it. The iRobot HOME app also shows you the location of every object it has gathered and also provides videos on how to do different maintenance tasks. The battery time of the 960 isn't particularly impressive but it's sufficient to let you enjoy it throughout the day without having to worry about recharging before the time of bed. self emptying roomba is available for both iOS and Android devices.

The iRobot Roomba 960

If you're looking for a robot vacuum that automatically empty its own bin and is compatible with Google Home or Amazon Alexa, the Roomba 970 is worth checking out. It uses the same advanced navigation technology as other recent iRobot vacuums and is able to detect stairs. It also has a central camera that scans the floor as it moves about and is able to recognize furniture, walls, and other obstacles so that it doesn't hit things. It also sets limits for the robot by using a virtual wall tool.

One of the main differences between this model and previous Roomba models is that it uses an lithium-ion battery, not the nickel metal hydride batteries used in earlier models. It's now running longer between charges and has more endurance when cleaning. It's not as fast as the Shark AI Robot but it can still navigate around the space with ease.

Like the other models in the 960 series the 970 is controlled via the iRobot app and can connect to your Wi-Fi network without installation needed. It has a small handle on the front of the device that you can use to return it manually to its charger and a spot-cleaning button lets you focus on a specific area in your home. The 960 series robots also feature the same three-stage cleaning process similar to other iRobot models, which combines agitation with power-lifting suction to thoroughly clean your floor and eliminate dirt.

The 960 is a great choice for carpets that are clean and can pick up a great deal of hair, dust, and other debris thanks to its brushrolls and suction. It is unable to handle high pile carpets and tends to leave a bit of sand in its tunnel. It has a large dirt storage compartment which can be notified when it is full by an app or a light on the top of the robot. It can be programmed to clean up on a regular basis, and we found it to be easy to set up this during our tests.
