The aim of this network meta-analysis was to determine the most appropriate intervention regimen and application time. Several electronic databases were searched up to December, 2019. We estimated summary odds ratios (OR) using pairwise and network meta-analyses with random effects for the outcome of occurrence of PVST. This work was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019161406). The analysis was based on 19 researches, which included 1853 patients. The results drawn from the data in standard meta-analysis indicated that the application of intervention was better than no intervention use, and early application of interventions was better than delayed application in preventing the occurrence of PVST. Subsequent network meta-analysis was performed to determine the most suitable intervention regimen used early post-operation. For separate mono-therapy drug, alprostadil, antithrombin III, low molecular dextran were significantly more efficacious than others. However, mono-therapy analysis was not so close to clinical application. In the follow-up network meta-analysis, low molecular dextran combined with low molecular weight heparin exhibited the largest effect on the preventing the incidence of PVST (0.12, 0.03-0.49), followed by antithrombin III (0.12, 0.04-0.41) with low molecular dextran (0.14, 0.05-0.41). We could draw the conclusion that early application of low molecular weight heparin combined with low molecular dextran seems to be the most satisfactory treatment to prevent the incidence of PVST for patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension after splenectomy. Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) after cardiac arrest (CA) induces mitochondrial dysfunction, and the timely removal of damaged mitochondria by mitophagy is reported to protect against cerebral I/R injury. Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) has become an important component of postresuscitation care for patients who return to spontaneous circulation after CA. Previous studies have shown that TH can activate mitophagy and can contribute a protective effect; however, the optimal rewarming rate and underlying mechanism of rewarming following TH remain largely unexplained. Here, we investigated the effects of different rewarming rates and whether mitophagy is involved in rewarming. After 5 min of asphyxial CA following 4 h of cooling, Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into the normothermia, hypothermia, slow rewarming (0.5 °C/h) and fast rewarming (4 °C/h) groups. The hypothermia group was kept cool until tissue harvest, the rewarming duration for the slow rewarming group and fast rewarming group was 6 h and 45 min, respectively. We found that slowly rewarmed rats had better survival at 72 h than normothermic rats and fast-rewarmed rats (70%, 25.71%, and 50%, respectively) and higher neurological deficit scores (NDSs), in which the medians were 57.33, 26, and 28.83, respectively. In addition, we explored the underlying mechanism during this process and found that PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy was activated during hypothermia in the slow rewarming group but was inhibited in the fast rewarming group. Further inhibition of mitophagy in the slowly rewarmed rats resulted in severe apoptosis and decreased the mean NDS from 58.39 to 33.11, indicating the protective role of mitophagy. Moreover, the fast rewarming group exhibited deficiencies in PINK1 expression and mitophagy activity and marked accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). see more Overall, our results highlighted a neuroprotective role of PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy during slow rewarming after hypothermia. Here, we present data from a 2-year study of 7 groups of wild Verreaux's sifakas (Propithecus verreauxi), in which we examined concentrations of faecal glucocorticoid metabolites (fGCMs, n = 2350 samples) simultaneously in relation to ambient temperatures, food intake, rank, reproduction, adult sex ratios, social interactions, vigilance and self-scratching. Multi-variate analyses revealed that fGCM concentrations were positively correlated with increases in daily temperature fluctuations and tended to decrease with increasing fruit intake. fGCM concentrations increased when males were sexually mature and began to disperse, and dominant males had higher fGCM concentrations than subordinate males. In contrast to males, older females showed a non-significant trend to have lower fGCM levels, potentially reflecting differences in male and female life-history strategies.
