Cardiomyocytes proliferate rapidly during fetal life but lose their ability of proliferation soon after birth. However, before terminal withdrawal from the cell cycle, cardiomyocytes undergo another round of cell cycle during early postnatal life in mice. Despite these important findings, it remains largely unknown whether natriuret natriuretic peptide and DN-FOXO on promoting cardiomyocyte cell cycle activity and mouse cardiac repair and regeneration after injury.

A 69-year-old woman with risk factors for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) was treated with oral amiodarone at a daily dose of 400mg for more than 2years, until she developed epigastralgia and vomiting. Initial laboratory findings included leukocytosis and elevated liver enzymes. Images of abdominal computed tomography scan revealed diffusely increased hepatic attenuation density (in contrast to decreased density in NAFLD), hepatomegaly, periportal edema, and ascites. Liver biopsy targeting the hotspot identified through positron emission tomography confirmed the diagnosis of amiodarone-associated chronic steatohepatitis and superimposed microabscesses. The patient died of progressive ACLF despite intensive supportive care.

Finally, research focus areas are highlighted, and a case is made for the utility of these fish in the study of aging-related neurodegeneration, and to screen for environmental risk factors of aging-related neuropathology.Background&AimsPatients with thalassemia have lifelong need for blood transfusion, makes them more risky to hepatitis C virus (HCV). Iron overload and chronic HCV are considered risk factors for patients with thalassemia to develop liver insults. The aim of the present study is to investigate the safety and efficacy of sofosbuvir/ledipasvir in treatment of chronic HCV infection in Egyptian adult patients with β- thalassemia major.
Aretrospective study included 53 patients with β-thalassemia major with chronic HCV treated with sofosbuvir (400 mg) and ledipasvir (90 mg) as a single pill fixed dose combination once daily for 12 weeks. The effectiveness of treatment was assessed by sustained virologic response (SVR) at 12 weeks after the end of treatment.

SVR was achieved in 96.23% of patients. 47.17% of patients had minor side effects. There was a significant reduction in ALT, AST, and serum ferritin 12 weeks post-therapy. There was insignificant change in hemoglobin level, or blood transfusion requirement 12 weeks post-therapy. There was no change in iron chelators doses throughout the study period.

Sofosbuvir/ledipasvir regimen seems to be safe and highly effective in treatment of chronic HCV in patients with β-thalassemia major.The purposes of this review are to promote better use of existing knowledge of marine pollutants especially endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) and to draw attention to the slow progression of the research on the influence of those compounds on arginine vasotocin/isotocin system (AVT/IT) in fish. EDCs are leading to the degradation of fish habitats, reducing their spawning potential and possibly their population parameters (e.g. growth, maturation), by preventing fish from breeding and rebuilding their populations. Therefore, searching for new welfare indicators such as AVT and IT and developing research procedures mimicking environmental conditions using a versatile fish model is extremely important. Fish species such as Zebrafish (Daniorerio) and round goby (Neogobiusmelanostomus) can be recommended as very suitable modelsfor studying estrogenic EDCs on the AVT/IT system and other hormones involved in the neuroendocrine regulation of physiological processes in fish.These studies would not only improve our understanding of the effects of EDCs on vertebrates but could also help safeguard the well-being of aquatic and terrestrial organisms from the harmful effects of these compounds.
