0017). In order to perform subtotal colectomy, side to side sutures (handsewn and stapled) seemed safe choices for anastomotic procedure (P=0.0073). Patient with anastomotic leakage suffered a significantly longer hospital stay (P=0.0079), presented higher rate of surgical reintervention (P=0.0001), increased mortality (P=0.0001) and elevated hospitalization costs (P=0.0079).
Postoperative complications like anastomosis leakage significantly increase hospitalization period, necessity of surgical reintervention, mortality and financial costs. In order to avoid these unpleasant events, bowel anastomoses require standardization during surgery.

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the presence of biofilms in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), with or without nasal polyps, and their relationship to eosinophils and plasma cells. We compared the results with those obtained in nonCRS patients.
A total of 50 patients were included in the study, 30 CRSwNP patients, 10 CRSsNP cases and 10 control patients who were operated for deviated septum. Biofilm detection was performed by means of H&E staining and SEM. Eosinophil and plasma cell values were recorded and compared between groups.
Biofilms were identified in 30 patients (60%), 76.6% (23 out of 30) of the CRSwNP patients, 70% (7 out of 10) of the CRSsNP patients and none of the septoplasty patients. Eosinophil and plasma cell values were more elevated in CRS patients, being strongly correlated to biofilm presence and nasal polyposis.
Biofilm presence was demonstrated in many of the CRS patients, with no evidence in the control cases. Our study findings indicate that inflammatory cell counts are higher in patients with CRS compared to controls, but also more elevated in patients with polyposis. In biofilm-positive patients, eosinophil and plasma cell counts were greater than those in patients without biofilms, demonstrating the proinflammatory action of the biofilm in the sino-nasal pathology.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) caused by incorrect working posture among dentists is a serious issue and one that leads to decreased productivity and quality of life.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of MSDs caused by postural errors in dental healthcare professionals on the body's center of gravity through a new and innovative technique - baropodometry.
In this study we included 3 oral healthcare specialists with over 20 years experience of practicing in orthostatism, with confirmed work-related MSDs, and performed a baropodometric analysis on them.
According to the analysis, all 3 test subjects had alterations of the body's center of gravity, with uneven distribution of pressures on the feet being recorded by the baropodometer.
In an effort to maintain a good field of view and workplace in orthostatism, the subject is forced to adopt an non-ergonomic position that leads to uneven weight distribution, shifted center of gravity that eventually cause musculoskeletal disorders.

The study describes the femoral (FN) and sciatic nerves (SN), explored using ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The aims of the study are to establish US/MRI correlations and define reference values for the anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) diameters and cross-sectional area (CSA) of the two nerves respectively, in well-defined anatomical measuring sites; to analyze the intraobserver variation; to define the value with least variability; to determine differences between the right-left and male-female reference values.
A prospective study was carried out on 24 healthy volunteers (11 men and 13 women). MRI scans were performed using a 1.5T system. To visualize both nerves (FN and SN), a single 3D T2 weighted acquisition was performed, in the coronal plane, with a wide FOV. For ultrasonographic examinations, a Hitachi EUB-8500 ultrasound machine, equipped with a 13 MHz linear transducer was used. The measurements were performed at well-defined anatomical locations. The mean refereCSAUS 53.631 ± 15.847. The MRI and US differences between right and left sides, both for the femoral and sciatic nerves were insignificant. In selected cases, Wilcoxon paired test indicated differences between subjects, according to their gender, both on MRI and US.
Reference values for the femoral and sciatic nerves at specific anatomical sites were identified. Side to side variation and gender related differences add to current knowledge on nerve size in young Caucasian population.

Pro-inflammatory signaling is mediated by a variety of inflammatory mediators which can cause myocardial apoptosis, hypertrophia, and fibrosis, and also ultimately lead to adverse cardiac remodeling. This study aimed to assess the role of circulating leukocyte-based indices in predicting the short-term mortality in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
In a retrospective study, patients with HFrEF admitted to a tertiary referral center between January 2016 and January 2017 were recruited to this study. The association between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), derived neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (dLNR = neutrophils/(leukocytes-neutrophils)), monocyte/granulocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MGLR = (white cell count-lymphocyte count) to lymphocyte count), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and six-months mortality of patients were assessed.
A total of 197 patients with HFrEF were enrolled in the study. NLR (P<0.001), dNLR (P<0.001), MGLR (P<0.001), PLR (P=0.006) and LVEF (P=0.
