Among the challenges of health research are sharing and the future use of human biological samples. Usually, participants show different opinions and ethical concerns regarding the usage and sharing of their biological samples. In this study, we investigated the perspectives of Jordanian participants regarding bio-samples collection, storage, use, and sharing.
The study is cross sectional, questionnaire-based, and involved 248 participants from Jordan. Data collected included demographic, qualitative, and quantitative information from research participants. The questionnaire was accomplished in the Arabic language and data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0.
Most of the participants (77%) supported providing samples for research purposes. Yet, they expressed concerns about the future use of their samples (27.8%), storage of their bio-samples after first use (19%), and export of the bio-samples outside of the country (27%). They further indicated that they will not mind if profits are generated from the samples (36.7%). On the other hand, about 18.5% would be very unhappy and would sue the researchers if their bio-samples were reused without their consent.
Participants showed strong views on specimen collection, storage, export, benefit sharing and future usage - most significantly on the consent process that permits free choices. Further research should be conducted to explore the concept of bio-samples donation and the benefit of sharing among researchers in Jordan.

Fifty eight milk samples were collected from a flock of goats in Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. All samples were tested for mastitis using the California Mastitis Test (CMT), Somatic Cell Count (SCC), and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) to identify Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus uberis and Streptococcus agalactiae. The presence of haptoglobin mRNA and proteins in the milk somatic cells was detected using Sanger sequencing and SDS-PAGE, respectively. Milk haptoglobin levels were subsequently estimated using an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) developed in this study. The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to compare the sensitivity and specificity of CMT, SCC, and the ELISA using the PCR as the reference standard. Kappa test was used to determine the agreement between the three imperfect tests. Results indicated that somatic cells of goat milk expressed a haptoglobin mRNA with a size of 174 bp and two haptoglobin proteins with molecular weights of 18 kDa and 32 kDa. The PCR test showed that 81% of samples were diagnosed positive for mastitis. At a specificity level of 50%, the ROC indicated that the ELISA was more sensitive compared to SCC or CMT (consecutively, 96%, 94%, and 92%). Kappa values between haptoglobin ELISA and CMT or SCC were high (0.84 and 0.81, respectively). This study indicates that somatic cells of goat milk were capable of synthesizing and secreting haptoglobin. Milk haptoglobin can be a potential target for an early detection of mastitis in goats. This study aims to investigate the linguistic mechanism of disseminating knowledge about terrorism by professionals to laypersons in TED Talks. The study examines the interface between knowledge, meaning and social practices in terms of text and context when speakers cognitively reconceptualize terrorism discourse as a professional practice and maintain their stance over social issues. Drawing on a multidisciplinary approach of discourse analysis and corpus linguistics, the study sets out to analyse the discursive representation of terrorism in TED talks delivered between 2002 and 2019, focusing on explanation strategies of definition, description, denomination and metaphor. The results revealed that TED talks' discourse was a less popularised genre regarding terrorism, marked by specialised terms of traditional right discourse of military actions, and impersonal reference for private intentions of building up expert identity. This study investigates the properties of a binary binder system consisting of calcined dolomite powder (CDP) and rice husk ash (RHA). To conduct the study, a reference mixture containing 100% ordinary Portland cement (OPC) and six other concrete mixtures containing a binary binder system with different proportions of CDP and RHA were prepared and tested. Testing was conducted for workability, setting time, dry shrinkage, and mechanical strength at different curing times. The results indicate that the binary system CDP-RHA have mechanical properties better than that of OPC. In addition, the results indicate that the mixture containing 50% CDP and 50% RHA is optimal in terms of mechanical strength.Nematodes are important soil organisms that constitute a key component of the soil ecosystem. A plant-parasitic survey was conducted to identify the diversity of nematodes associated with two endemic tea plants, honeybush (Cyclopia spp.) and rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A total of 20 farmlands were surveyed and soil samples were collected from the rhizosphere of plants, for nematode isolation and identification based on morphological characters. Confirmation of the species of plant-parasitic nematodes was done using molecular-based tools. compound library chemical Nematodes were classified into various feeding groups based on their colonizer-persister (c-p) values. Plant-feeding nematodes identified from the honeybush tea plants include; Criconema mutabile, Meloidogyne hapla, M. javanica, and Xiphinema oxycaudatum, while Hoplolaimus sp., Neodolichorhynchus estherae and Pratylechus bolivianus were pathogenic on the rooibos monocultures. Bacterial and fungal feeders (Cephalobidae and Rhabditidae) were also abundant and frequently encountered in all samples.
