The TPA-KCC-1 can be separated easily after reaction from the reaction mixture and reused atleast five times without substantial loss in catalytic activity. This study provides an easy encapsulation method for TPA in dendritic fibrous silica KCC-1 as a heterogeneous catalyst, and it should have great application potential in other biomass valorization processes. The effects of wastewater infrastructure construction on regional and local environments is unknown. This project evaluated the effects of such projects in Monroe County, Florida, an area that had undergone regional wastewater infrastructure improvements. We used fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) (fecal coliform and enterococci), as a proxy indicator of beach water quality for an 18-year period of record. At the highest level of aggregation, FIBs for all 17 beaches within the county were combined to evaluate trends on a yearly basis. At the lower level, yearly FIB trends were evaluated for each beach separately. FIB data on infrastructure project period (categorical variables before, during, and after construction), and the influences of environmental conditions (quantitative variables of rainfall and temperature) were also evaluated. In the multiple regression models, enterococci and fecal coliform were significantly associated with rainfall (24 h, p less then 0.0001) and water temperature (p less then 0.00re and frequent FIB exceedances.A fundamental understanding of the impact of petrochemicals and other stressors on marine biodiversity is critical for effective management, restoration, recovery, and mitigation initiatives. As species-specific information on levels of petrochemical exposure and toxicological response are lacking for the majority of marine species, a trait-based assessment to rank species vulnerabilities to petrochemical activities in the Gulf of Mexico can provide a more comprehensive and effective means to prioritize species, habitats, and ecosystems for improved management, restoration and recovery. To initiate and standardize this process, we developed a trait-based framework, applicable to a wide range of vertebrate and invertebrate species, that can be used to rank relative population vulnerabilities of species to petrochemical activities in the Gulf of Mexico. Through expert consultation, 18 traits related to likelihood of exposure, individual sensitivity, and population resilience were identified and defined. The resulting multi-taxonomic petrochemical vulnerability framework can be adapted and applied to a wide variety of species groups and geographic regions. Additional recommendations and guidance on the application of the framework to rank species vulnerabilities under specific petrochemical exposure scenarios, management needs or data limitations are also discussed. The process of Electrocoagulation (EC), the in-situ production of coagulants by passing an electric current through sacrificial electrodes, is free of chemical additives and cost-effective. This makes it the most widely used water and wastewater treatment method. However, the literature highlights some significant drawbacks of this method including EC unit design limitations. This research therefore aimed to develop a new EC unit design using drilled plates (electrodes) to mix the solution being treated without using external mixers, this minimising power consumption. The performance of the new EC unit was validated by applying it to remove iron from water taking into account the effects of applied current density (ACD), the pH of the water (PoW), iron concentration (IC) and treatment time (TT). The effects of these parameters were optimised using the Box-Behnken model. Synthetic water samples containing different concentrations of iron (10-30 mg/l), were treated in a continuous flow, using the new EC reactor at different ACD (1.5-4.5 mA/cm2), PoW (4-10) and TT (10-50 min). The results revealed that the removal of 99.9% of iron was achieved by keeping PoW, ACD, IC and TT at 7, 3 mA/cm2, 10 mg/l and 50 min, respectively. The effects of ACD, POW, IC and TT on iron removal could be successfully simulated with R2 = 0.9788. The cost of removing iron using the proposed EC unit was 0.623 £/m3.Carbamate pesticides (CMs) and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) have been widely used in agriculture and toxicologically affect non-target organisms. Although there are many reports about their toxicities, the combined behavioral toxicities of CM/OP mixtures on Caenorhabditis elegans have rarely been studied. In this study, body bend inhibition (BBI), head thrash inhibition (HTI), and swimming speed inhibition (SSI) by CMs and OPs were chosen as the toxicity endpoints. The locomotion behavioral toxicities of individual pesticides (carbofuran (CAR), methomyl (MET), chlorpyrifos (CPF), and triazophos (TAP)) and their binary mixtures on C. AZ191 inhibitor elegans were determined systematically and the toxicological interaction profiles of various CM/OP mixture rays constructed using the combination index. It was shown that four pesticides and their binary mixture rays have significant inhibitory effects on the locomotion behavior of C. elegans; that is, they produce locomotion behavioral toxicities and the toxicity of two OPs is higher than those of two CMs. The toxicological interactions in the binary CM and OP mixtures are different from each other. For example, one mixture ray (CAR-MET-R1) in the CM system on the SSI endpoint exhibits synergism at all concentration levels, another ray (CAR-MET-R3) displays low-dose synergism and high-dose additive action on BBI and HTI endpoints, and weak synergism at high-dose on SSI, and other rays perform additive action. Two rays (CPF-TAP-R1 and CPF-TAP-R2) in the OP mixture system display low-dose additive action and high-dose antagonism on the three endpoints. Another ray (CPF-TAP-R3) shows the additive action at all concentration levels. It can be concluded that it is not sufficient to evaluate the combined toxicity of binary CM/OP mixtures using only one concentration ratio ray and that it is necessary to examine multiple concentration ratios. This study represents a holistic approach in assessing the effects of copper oxide nanoparticles (nCuO) on microbial health and community structure in soil amended with municipal biosolids. The biosolids were amended with nCuO ( less then 50 nm) and mixed into a sandy loam soil at measured Cu concentrations of 27, 54, 123, 265 and 627 mg Cu kg-1 soil. A suite of tests were used to assess the potential impact of nCuO on microbial growth, activity, and diversity. Microbial growth was determined by the heterotrophic plate count (HPC) method, while microbial diversity was assessed using both community level physiological profiling (CLPP) and 16S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sequencing. Microbial activity was assessed by examining soil nitrification, organic matter decomposition, soil respiration (basal and substrate induced) and soil enzyme assays for dehydrogenase, phosphatase and β-glucosidase activities. As a readily soluble positive control, copper sulfate (CuSO4) was used at measured Cu concentrations of 65, 140, 335 and 885 mg Cu kg-1 soil for select tests, and at the highest concentration for the remaining tests.
