An aerobic, Gram-stain-negative ovoid, designated as strain A21T, was isolated using the dilution-to-extinction method from a soil sample taken from Rambla Salada, an athalassohaline habitat located in Murcia (south-eastern Spain). Strain A21T is non-motile, has a respiratory metabolism and grows at NaCl concentrations within the range 0.5-15 % (w/v) [optimum, 5 % (w/v)], at 5-35 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and at pH 6-8 (optimum, pH 7.0). This strain is positive for catalase activity, oxidase activity and nitrate reduction. The 16S rRNA gene sequence indicates that it belongs to the genus Roseovarius in the class Alphaproteobacteria. The most closely related species are Roseovarius pacificus and Roseovarius halotolerans to which the strain A21T shows 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of 98.06 and 97.7 %, respectively. The average nucleotide identity in blast and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain A21T and R. pacificus LMG 24575T are 76.8 and 21 %, respectively. The DNA G+C content based on the genome is 61.28 mol%. The major fatty acids (>5 % of the total fatty acids) of strain A21T are C18  1 ω7c/C18  1 ω6c and C16  0. The only detected isoprenoid quinone in strain A21T is ubiquinone 10 (Q-10). The polar lipid profile contains phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and three unidentified polar lipids. Based on the phylogenetic, genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data, the strain represents a novel species of the genus Roseovarius, for which the name Roseovarius bejariae sp. nov. is proposed. Strain A21T (=CECT 9817T=LMG 31311T) is the type strain.The H7N9 virus mutated in 2017, resulting in new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H7N9 virus infection. H7N9 was found in a viraemic patient in Guangdong province, China. The present study aimed to clarify the pathogenic characteristics of HPAI H7N9. Virus was isolated from the plasma and sputum of the patient with HPAI H7N9. Liquid phase chip technology was used to detect the plasma cytokines from the infected patient and healthy controls. Mice were infected with strains A/Guangdong/GZ8H002/2017(H7N9) and A/Zhejiang/DTID-ZJU01/2013(H7N9) to observe the virus's pathogenic characteristics. Serum and brain tissue were collected at 2, 4, and 6 days after infection. The viruses in serum and brain tissue were detected and isolated. The two strains were infected into A549 cells, exosomes were extracted, and virus genes in the exosomes were assessed. Live virus was isolated from the patient's plasma. An acute cytokine storm was detected during the whole course of the disease. In animal experiments, A/Guangdong/GZ8H002/2017(H7N9) was more pathogenic than A/Zhejiang /DTID-ZJU01/2013(H7N9) and resulted in the death of mice. Live virus was isolated from infected mouse serum. Virus infection was also detected in the brain of mice. Under viral stress, A549 cells secreted exosomes containing the entire viral genome. The viraemic patient was confirmed to have an HPAI H7N9 infection. A/Guangdong/GZ8H002/2017(H7N9) showed significantly enhanced toxicity. Patient deaths might result from cytokine storms and brain infections. Extrapulmonary tissue infection might occur via the exosome pathway. The determined pathogenic characteristics of HPAI H7N9 will contribute to its future treatment.Purpose This review aims to reveal how music and dance participation relates to key social determinants of health, and acts as population wellbeing and health promotion and preventive tools for people without pre-existing health issues in diverse social groups.Methods A qualitative systematic literature review addresses the questions 1) How might music and dance cultural practices relate to social determinants of health?; 2) What gaps exist in the current body of research examining how healthy individuals/populations maintain and promote good health and wellbeing through music and dance participation?; 3) What are the implications of the current body of literature for healthcare, policy and research?Results Music and dance relate to key social determinants of health, from social and cultural, and physical and mental health perspectives. A number of gaps in the literature exist, including underrepresentation of middle aged participants, men, and Indigenous, LGBTQIAP+, and migrant populations. There is a lack of consistency in theoretical and methodological approaches, and a language for effective communication across arts and health audiences.Conclusions A significant opportunity exists for cross-disciplinary collaboration to advance healthcare and arts policy, generate cost-effective approaches to preventive healthcare practice, and enhance the wellbeing and health of large and diverse populations.Achieving gender equality is a key component for improving global health, but how to do so remains a complex undertaking. Each community's experiences with gender inequality and vision for equality are historically and culturally specific, while also fitting larger global patterns. This is the case in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, a group of islands suffering from the impacts of a long history integrating coloniser and locally formed patriarchal values. Apalutamide Chuukese women often see their roles as powerless and silent except when acting through women's groups. In recent decades, Chuukese women created an umbrella organisation for all women's groups, yielding more power to effect change. Derived from an ethnographic study of the Chuuk Women's Council (CWC), 1 focus group and 12 individual interviews were conducted with CWC members to explore women's experiences advancing gender equality on their terms. Findings demonstrate how the CWC lobbied for legal change, replaced inadequate health and social services, and changed community conversations about gender. The CWC received national and international resources, which became both supportive and disruptive to their efforts. Findings from this study have implications for global support of grassroots efforts to achieve gender equality, with lasting implications for gender equity in health.
