Muscular dystrophy-dystroglycanopathies are autosomal recessive neurologic disorders, caused by homozygous or compound heterozygous mutations in the POMGNT1 gene-encoding protein O-mannose beta-1,2-N-acetylglucosaminyl transferase. This type of muscular dystrophy is characterized by early-onset muscle weakness, gait ataxia, microcephaly, and developmental delay.We performed whole-exome sequencing to detect the disease-causing variants in a 4 year-old boy. Afterwards, Sanger sequencing was performed to confirm the detected variant in the patient and his family. We evaluated a 4 year-old Iranian boy presented with delayed speech and language development, gait ataxia, global developmental delay, motor delay, neurodevelopmental delay, postnatal microcephaly and strabismus. His parents were first cousins, and the mother had a history of spontaneous abortion. In this study, we report a novel missense c.386G > A; p.(Arg129Gln) variant in the POMGNT1 gene which was confirmed by Sanger sequencing in the patient and segregated with the disease in the family.

The aim of this study was to evaluate nonmedical use (NMU) and diversion of tramadol and comparator opioids using real-world data from the Addiction Severity Index-Multimedia Version (ASI-MV
).

A cross-sectional study design was used to evaluate past 30-day tramadol and comparator opioid NMU among adults assessed for substance abuse treatment using the ASI-MV from 2010 to 2018. Population and drug utilization-adjusted rates were studied, as well as patient characteristics, route of administration, and diversion.

Past 30-day NMU of one or more prescription opioid was reported in 125,048 (22.6%) of ASI-MV assessments (2010-2018); 46.5% reported oxycodone, 43.2% hydrocodone, 8.1% morphine, and 7.2% tramadol. Male respondents ranged from 43.2% in the tramadol group to 51.8% in the oxycodonedings support previous evaluations by WHO and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency that concluded that tramadol has a low potential for abuse.In Canada and globally, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of reliable and responsive public health systems. The pandemic has required decisive leadership and collaboration across all sectors of society informed by the best available evidence. In this commentary, we argue that in order to create a robust public health system equipped to address current and future public health challenges, we must prioritize and invest in stronger relationships between public health practice and academia. We briefly review key recommendations following the SARS outbreak, particularly those calling for stronger linkages between public health academia and practice settings in Canada. We then propose key actions for strengthening these linkages. Echoing other COVID-19-related calls, which request long-term reinvestment in public health education and training, we recommend the following actions (1) Improve collaboration between education programs and public health agencies to address system needs (e.g., surge capacity) and persisting health inequities; (2) Fund a pan-Canadian public health training initiative that builds on a renewed set of public health competencies to address priority training needs (e.g., equity-oriented leadership); and (3) Prepare a cadre of certified public health leaders who can progress along public health career pathways, including those already in practice.The João Mendes River - an important contributor to the Piratininga/Itaipu lagoon system in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil - receives untreated sewage from the population occupying the drainage basin with no proper sanitation infrastructure. The present study assessed the ecological risk resulting from the presence of five organic micropollutants (17α-ethynylestradiol, ibuprofen, trimethoprim, sulfamethoxazole, bisphenol A) based on four monitoring campaigns which included three sampling points and one reference area. Chronic ecotoxicity assays were conducted with the bioindicators R. subcapitata, C. dubia and O. niloticus. Estrogenicity was assessed with genetically modified S. cerevisiae based on YES protocol. The Ecological Risk Assessment was conducted based on the Chemical and the Ecotoxicological Lines of Evidence (LoE). In order to analyse the results from different sampling points, principal component analysis (PCA) was performed using a correlation matrix. Micropollutants below limit of detection or in very low concentrations were detected in the reference area; no significant differences were observed when samples from the reference area were compared to the negative controls for the ecotoxicity assays. this website A PCA including selected variables revealed the latent relationships among the three sampling points (not verified for the reference area), which confirmed the analytical results. An extreme ecological risk index was estimated for all sampling points in all campaigns. This paper explores the value of rural people affected by cancer delivering cancer-related education and support to their peers via 3-5 min online YouTube films. In part 1, 14 rural Australians affected by cancer (10 survivors, 4 carers), 50% (7/14) female, 55-79 years, "storytellers", were purposively invited to be filmed sharing their cancer-related experience and advice for others facing similar challenges. They then reflected on their storytelling experience during semi-structured interviews with an independent researcher. In part 2, 11 rural South Australians affected by cancer (8 survivors, 3 carers), 82% (9/11) female, 32-75 years, "viewers", who had watched at least three of the videos, were interviewed. When data saturation was reached, thematic analysis was employed. Storytellers were found to be highly satisfied with the film-making process and product. They valued rapport building prior to filming and the opportunity to help others.
