A new nitrogen-doped asymmetric phenalenyl which has a zwitterionic soil state.
This study clearly showed that microbial groups involved in metamitron degradation depend on the system (soil vs. water-sediment) and on time. It also indicated that the turnover of organic chemicals in complex environments is driven by different groups of synthropic degraders (primary degraders and necromass degraders) rather than by a single degrader.Plasma technology has received intensive research interest in pollutants degradation. Pimicotinib in vitro However, conventional plasma generator suffers from erosion of electrodes and consequent short life time and pollution. In this work, an electrodeless high-flow microwave atmospheric plasma jet is developed for fast degradation of p-nitrophenol. With the assistance of injection locking technology, stable plasma is managed to be generated by low-cost magnetron. 100% removal of 100 mg/L PNP is achieved after 12 min, with a TOC removal efficiency of 57.6%. The fast degradation is probably due to the high cross section (around 153 mm2) of plasma gas. Change in the removal efficiency are less than 4% and 5% as the pH of the solution changes from 2.02 to 12.07 and conductivity varies between 5.38 × 10-2 and 43.6 mS/cm, respectively. Moreover, optical emission spectroscopy spectra of the microwave plasma and a hydroxyl radical scavenger (t-butanol) are employed to identify the generated oxidizing species, which indicates that •OH is the key factor during the degradation process. The hydroxylated intermediates and organic acid transformed from PNP were revealed. Based on the examined intermediate products, the possible degradation mechanism and pathway are analyzed.Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a versatile source of carbon nanoarchitectures in gas sensing applications (Torad et al., 2019). Herein, several types of nanoporous carbons (NPCs) have been prepared by in-situ carbothermal treatment of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) under different inert atmospheres to achieve a highly sensitive discrimination of vaporized aromatic compounds. In this study, we demonstrate how different carbonization conditions under the flow of N2 or H2 gases affect the surface area and the degree of graphitization of the resulting NPCs polyhedrons, and their consequent effect on the sensing performance in terms of sensitivity and selectivity toward toxic volatile hydrocarbons. A growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is observed on the surface of polyhedral NPCs after careful carbonization of ZIF crystals under H2 atmosphere. The fabricated quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor with CNT-containing NPCs demonstrates increased sensitivity and selectivity towards toxic volatile aromatic hydrocarbons over the aliphatic analogues, suggesting the rich growth of hairy graphitic-like CNTs on the surface of carbon framework act as highly selective sensing antennae for vapor molecular discrimination of toxic aromatic hydrocarbons. Despite of increased selectivity towards volatile aromatic compounds, however, the surface area of CNT-rich NPCs derived from hybrid ZIFs and ZIF-67 is greatly sacrificed as compared to CNT-free NPCs from ZIF-8 polyhedron. In the case of Co-containing ZIF-67, the rich growth of hair-like CNTs, which is induced by the presence of Co, is observed during carbothermal reduction under a flow of H2 gas, thus allowing ultra-selective detection of aromatic hydrocarbons in the vapor phase, such as benzene (C6H6) and toluene (C6H5CH3) over their aliphatic analogue, c-hexane (c-C6H12) of same molecular mass, size and vapor pressure. In recent years, volatile organic compound (VOC) gases have caused potential harm to people's health. This study reveals the preparation of polyethylene porous fiber membrane with excellent low-concentration VOCs filtration performance via laser irradiation technology. A neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (NdYAG) pulsed laser beam was used to scan the laser-sensitive low-density polyethylene/carbon black (LDPE/CB) fibers prepared by nanolayer coextrusion in the air. The controllable thermal energy generated by laser irradiation makes the surface of the fiber membrane to produce a porous carbon layer in situ. Laser power and scanning speed are important parameters for controlling laser-induced carbonization. The results indicate that the rich "fluffy" carbon structures on the surface of the porous fiber membrane can efficiently adsorb xylene gas. This study can provide a positive reference for the large-scale preparation of polyolefin porous fiber membrane with VOCs filtration by simple and efficient laser irradiation method. The identification of reactive radical species using quenching and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) tests has attracted extensive attention, but some mistakes or misinterpretations are often present in recent literature. This review aims to clarify the corresponding issues through surveying literature, including the uncertainty about the identity of radicals in the bulk solution or adsorbed on the catalyst surface in quenching tests, selection of proper scavengers, data explanation for incomplete inhibition, the inconsistent results between quenching and EPR tests (e.g., SO4•- is predominant in quenching test while the signal of •OH predominates in EPR test), and the incorrect identification of EPR signals (e.g., SO4•- is identified by indiscernible or incorrect signals). In addition, this review outlines the transformation of radicals for better tracing the origin of radicals. It is anticipated that this review can help in avoiding mistakes while investigating catalytic oxidative mechanism with quenching and EPR tests. In this study, the feasibility of the membrane distillation (MD) process as a wastewater reclamation system for portable reuse was investigated. The flux was stably maintained at about 20 L/m2h (LMH) at ΔT 30 °C, compared to higher flux at ΔT 50 °C, which showed a rapid decrease in the flux due to severe fouling. MD produced excellent quality of potable water satisfied the drinking water standards of Korea from effluent of sewage treatment plant (ESTP). The fractions of the hydrophobic OC (HOC) and chromatographic DOC (CDOC) from LC-OCD analysis was firstly suggested to understand different organic transport during the MD process. The transport of organic matters across the MD membrane mitigated at low operation temperature and the transported organics in all the tested waters were mostly volatile low molecular weight organics, aromatic amino acids. All of thirteen selected pharmaceuticals were completely removed by MD, regardless of their properties. In order to retard the membrane fouling of the MD process, coagulation and filtration pre-treatments were applied.
