The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of image enhancement filters on detection of fractured endodontic instruments and on image noise and pixel intensity.
In total, 26 mandibular molars (68 root canals), divided into 4 groups (presence/absence of root canal filling, and presence/absence of a fractured endodontic instrument) were radiographed by using a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) and a photostimulable phosphor (PSP) system. Images with 4 enhancement filters (Sharpen UM, Edges All, BC Low, and BC High) were compared with nonfiltered images. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (Az), sensitivity, and specificity in detection of fractured instruments were compared for each imaging condition. Means and standard deviations (SD) to measure noise and changes in pixel intensity were calculated. Analysis of variance was used to analyze the data.
There were no significant differences in Az, sensitivity, and specificity values between nonfiltered and filtered images in detection of instruments in root canals without and with root canal filling (P ≥ .360). SD was reduced by filters in CMOS but not PSP radiographs. Sharpen UM caused more changes in the mean values in both systems.

A consequence of electron transfer is the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which contributes to both homeostatic signaling as well as oxidative stress during pathology. In this graphical review we provide an overview of oxidative phosphorylation and its inter-relationship with ROS production by the electron transport chain. We also outline traditional and novel translational methodology for assessing mitochondrial energetics in health and disease.Aminoglycoside antibiotics treat respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis (CF). An aminoglycoside induced ototoxicity algorithm (AIOA) was implemented to assess ototoxicity among people with CF treated with intravenous and/or inhaled aminoglycosides. Prior to AIOA implementation, 14 of 52 patients (27%) treated with intravenous aminoglycosides had an audiogram. In the 24 months post AIOA implementation, 43 of 44 patients (98%) treated with intravenous aminoglycosides had an audiogram, with 27 (63%) demonstrating abnormalities. Prior to AIOA development, 18 of 70 patients (26%) who received at least two courses of inhaled aminoglycosides had an audiogram. Post AIOA implementation, 33 patients qualified for an audiogram after receiving inhaled aminoglycosides. Of these, 19 (58%) had an audiogram and 10 (53%) had abnormalities. Overall, we identified 46 (61%) people with CF with hearing abnormalities compared to 2.4% in the CF Foundation Patient Registry. This suggests an urgent need for CF programs to implement AIOAs.
The Johns Hopkins Highest Level of Mobility (JH-HLM) scale is used to document the observed mobility of hospitalized patients, including those patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting.
To evaluate the inter-rater reliability of the JH-HLM, completed by physical therapists, across medical, surgical, and neurological adult ICUs at a single large academic hospital.
The JH-HLM is an ordinal scale for documenting a patient's highest observed level of activity, ranging from lying in bed (score = 1) to ambulating >250 feet (score = 8). Eighty-one rehabilitation sessions were conducted by eight physical therapists, with 1 of 2 reference physical therapist rater simultaneously observing the session and independently scoring the JH-HLM. The intraclass correlation coefficient was used to determine the inter-rater reliability.
A total of 77 (95%) of 81 assessments had perfect agreement. The overall intraclass correlation coefficient for inter-rater reliability was 0.98 (95% confidence interval 0.96, 0.99), with similar scores in the medical, surgical, and neurological ICUs. A Bland-Altman plot revealed a mean difference in JH-HLM scoring of 0 (limits of agreement -0.54 to 0.61).
The JH-HLM has excellent inter-rater reliability as part of routine physical therapy practice, across different types of adult ICUs.

We also describe analyses if there is non-adherence to the interventions, data management procedures, and our planned reporting of results.
This statistical analysis plan will minimize the potential for bias in the analysis and reporting of results from the RESOLVE trial.

Older adults with multiple sclerosis (MS) engage in alarmingly low levels of physical activity. Fitness trackers may be a promising approach for promoting and monitoring physical activity among older adults with MS.
This study reports on the rates, patterns of fitness tracker use in adults with MS who are over 60 years of age. We hypothesized that older adults with MS who use fitness trackers "users" would report significantly more physical activity than those who don't "non-users."
Participants across the United States completed an online survey that included self-reported demographic and clinical characteristics, fitness tracker use questionnaire, and Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ) for measuring total and health-promoting physical activity (GLTEQ-HCS).
