Bell's palsy merupakan gangguan saraf di bagian wajah yg muncul tanpa tiba-tiba.
Cirinya gampang sekali, yaitu perubahan sebagian bentuk wajah, bahasa gaulnya mencong. Pokoknya penderita bell's palsy mukanya kaku, gak bisa gerak. Jadi kalo merem yaudah merem terus. Ada yg sebatas kaku di muka, ada juga yg sampai wajahnya benar2 gak bisa digerakkan. Dampak ini bisa terjadi sementara, bisa juga berjangka panjang.
Bell's palsy muncul saat saraf yg mengendalikan wajah terganggu. Penyebab pastinya belum diketahui, alias idiopatik. Namun beberapa berpendapat bell's palsy bisa muncul akibat cidera operasi, kecelakaan, serta paparan udara dingin terus menerus pada satu sisi wajah.
Perlu diingat bahwa bell's palsy BEDA dengan penyakit stroke, tapi BISA JADI itu pertanda penyakit stroke. Maksudnya gimana? Bell's palsy yg asli muncul tanpa adanya riwayat kelainan saraf apapun, dan kakunya cuma di bagian wajah. Sedangkan stroke disebabkan karena ada penyumbatan di otak sehingga mengganggu fungsi tubuh, gak cuma wajah tapi juga bisa bikin kaku anggota gerak seperti tangan kaki, ataupun bagian tubuh lain.
