Hypertension developed in 44.7% of individuals with uric acid level ≥ 75
percentile vs. 35.6% of other individuals (
=0.024). IDE397 in vivo Attributable risk (AR) of hyperuricemia in hypertension incidence was 9.1%. PAR of hyperuricemia for hypertension incidence by using two methods mentioned before was 6%, 5.8% respectively.

The results of the study confirmed the noticeable contribution of hyperuricemia as an independent other risk factor for the occurrence of hypertension. PAR of hyperuricemia for hypertension incidence by using two methods almost near was 6%, 5.8% respectively.

In epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), 15-20% of the tumors do not respond to first-line chemotherapy (paclitaxel with platinum-based therapy), and in recurrences this number increases. Our aim is to determine the feasibility of cell proliferation assays of tumor cells isolated from malignant ascites to predict
chemotherapy sensitivity, and to correlate these results with clinical outcome.

Ascites was collected from twenty women with advanced EOC. Cell samples were enriched for tumor cells and EOC origin was confirmed by intracellular staining of CK7, surface staining of CA125 and EpCAM, and
gene expression.
sensitivity to chemotherapy was determined in cell proliferation assays using intracellular ATP content as an indirect measure of cell number.
drug response was quantified by calculation of the drug concentration at which cell growth was inhibited with 50%. Clinical outcome was determined using post-treatment CA125 level.

Cell samples of twenty patients were collected, of which three samples that failed to proliferate were excluded in the analysis (15%). Three other samples were excluded, because clinical outcome could not be determined correctly. In twelve of the fourteen remaining cases (86%)
drug sensitivity and clinical outcome corresponded, while in two samples (14%) there was no correspondence.

Our study demonstrates the feasibility of drug sensitivity tests using tumor cells isolated from ascites of advanced EOC patients. Larger observational studies are required to confirm the correlation between the
sensitivity and clinical outcome.

We aimed to assess whether "Managing Patients on Chemotherapy" book is effective to improve quality of life (QOL) of cancer patient via counselling by pharmacist.

A randomized control trial study was run among 2120 cancer patients in public hospitals in Peninsular Malaysia, from Apr 2016-Jan 2018. The treatment group received counselling regarding chemotherapy by using developed module. The data were collected at three time-points baseline, 1
, 2
and 3
follow-ups after counseling by Validated Malay version of the WHOQOL-BREF of questionnaire. Data analyses were done using χ
and two-way repeated measure ANOVA.

The treatment group improved significantly as compared to control group in physical health, psychological health, social relationship, environment and overall QOL (
<0.00).

The "Managing Patients on Chemotherapy" book along with repetitive counselling by pharmacists is a useful intervention for improving QOL of cancer patients undergoing treatment.

The tumor microenvironment is involved in acquiring tumor malignancies of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). We have reported that TU-100 (Daikenchuto) suppresses hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation in obstructive jaundice. In this study, we report new findings as the direct and indirect inhibitory effects of TU-100 on cancer cell growth through the suppression of HSC activation.

The HSCs (LX2) were cultured in colon cancer cells (HCT116 and HT29)-conditioned medium (CM) with or without TU-100 treatment (90, 270, 900 μg/ml). Activated HSCs (aHSCs) were detected by α-SMA and IL-6 mRNA expressions and cytokine arrays of HSC's culture supernatants. Cancer cell growth was analyzed for proliferation and migration ability, compared with TU-100 treatment. To investigate the direct anti-tumor effect of TU-100, cancer cells were cultured in the presence of aHSC-CM and TU-100 (90, 270, 900) or aHSC-CM alone, and assessed autophagosomes, conversion to LC3-II protein, and Beclin-1 mRNA expression.

Colon cancer-CM significantly increased α-SMA and IL-6 mRNA expressions of aHSC. α-SMA and IL-6 mRNA expressions of aHSC, and IL-6 secretions from aHSCs were significantly decreased with TU-100 (270, 900) treatment, compared to colon cancer-CM alone. Compared with normal culture medium, aHSC-CM led to a significantly increased cell number and modified HSC-CM (TU-100; 270, 900) significantly suppressed cancer cell growth and migration. TU-100 (900) treatment induced autophagy and significantly promoted the autophagic cell death.

TU-100 inhibited colon cancer cell malignant potential by both suppressing HSC activation and inducing directly autophagy of cancer cells.

The purpose of this study was to find the basic data of medical and exercise therapy by indexing lumbar extension muscle strength of low back pain (LBP) patients.

In this cross-sectional study, 3078 chronic LBP participants from The J hospital, Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 2003 to 2010 were enrolled. Maximum muscle strength was measured at maximum flexion angle and maximum extension angle according to range of motion (ROM) results. For each isometric test, participants were seated and secured in the MEDX (medx lumbar extension machine, Ocala, FL, USA) machine.

The relative ROM (
=0.012) differed significantly among the aged groups in all participants. In addition, mean of strength (
<0.001), maximal of strength (
<0.001), mean of strength %BW (
<0.001) and maximal of strength %BW (
<0.001) are significant differences in all participants. The results of multiple regression analysis was the 'model A', maximal of strength for 32.1% of the variance in weigh, body mass index and range of motion.
