Furthermore, it is hypothesised that RpaB is regulated by redox-dependent signals rather than by high-light-stress-dependent signals. The nitrogen-fixing actinobacterium Frankia develops unique multicellular structures called vesicles, which are the site of nitrogen fixation. These vesicles are surrounded by a thick hopanoid lipid envelope that protects nitrogenase against oxygen inactivation. The phenotypes of five mutants that form smaller numbers of vesicles were investigated. The vesicles of these mutants were smaller than those of the wild type and had a phase dark appearance. They induced the expression of a glutamine synthetase gene in hyphae cells in response to ammonium starvation. These results suggest that genes impaired in the mutants do not function in global nitrogen regulation, but specifically function in vesicle differentiation.More than 3,000 isolates of fluorescent pseudomonads have been collected from plant roots in Japan and screened for the presence of antibiotic-synthesizing genes. In total, 927 hydrogen cyanide (HCN)-, 47 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (PHL)-, 6 pyoluteorin (PLT)-, 14 pyrrolnitrin (PRN)-, and 8 phenazine (PHZ)-producing isolates have been detected. A cluster analysis (≥99% identity) identified 10 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in antibiotic biosynthesis gene-possessing pseudomonads. OTU HLR (PHL, PLT, and PRN) contained four antibiotics HCN, PHL, PLT, and PRN, while OTU RZ (PRN and PHZ) contained three HCN, PRN, and PHZ. this website OTU H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6, and H7 (PHL1-7) contained two antibiotics HCN and PHL, while OTU H8 (PHL8) contained one PHL. Isolates belonging to OTU HLR and RZ suppressed damping-off disease in cabbage seedlings caused by Rhizoctonia solani. Effective strains belonging to OTU HLR and RZ were related to Pseudomonas protegens and Pseudomonas chlororaphis, respectively. Antibiotic biosynthesis gene-possessing fluorescent pseudomonads are distributed among different geographical sites in Japan and plant species.BACKGROUND Sarcopenia is characterized by progressive loss of skeletal muscle and has frequently been associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with advanced heart failure (HF). The urinary creatinine excretion rate (CER) index is an easily measured marker of muscle mass, but its predictive capacity for mortality and cerebrovascular events has not been investigated in patients with a continuous-flow implantable left ventricular assist device (CF-iLVAD).Methods and ResultsWe retrospectively reviewed 147 patients (mean [±SD] age 43.7±12.5 years, 106 male) who underwent CF-iLVAD implantation between April 2011 and June 2019. CER indices in 24-h urine samples before CF-iLVAD implantation were determined. Over a median follow-up of 2.3 years, there were 10 (6.8%) deaths and 43 (29.3%) cerebrovascular events. Patients were divided into 2 groups (low and high CER index) according to the median CER index in men and women (i.e., 13.71 and 12.06 mg·kg-1·day-1, respectively). Mortality and intracranial hemorrhage rates after CF-iLVAD implantation were significantly higher in the low than high CER index group (mortality 12.3% vs. 1.4% [P less then 0.01]; intracranial hemorrhage 23.3% vs. 8.1% [P=0.01]). Multivariate Cox proportional hazard models revealed that a low CER index was an independent predictor of intracranial hemorrhage in patients receiving a CF-iLVAD (hazard ratio 3.63; 95% confidence interval 1.43-9.24; P less then 0.01). CONCLUSIONS A low preoperative CER index is an independent, non-invasive predictor of intracranial hemorrhage after CF-iLVAD implantation.Atrazine is a triazine herbicide that is widely used to control broadleaf weeds. Its widespread use over the last 50 years has led to the potential contamination of soils, groundwater, rivers, and lakes. Its main route of complete degradation is via biological means, which is carried out by soil microbiota using a 6-step pathway. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether application of atrazine to soil changes the soil bacterial community. We used 16S rRNA gene sequencing and qPCR to elucidate the microbial community structure and assess the abundance of the atrazine degradation genes atzA, atzD, and trzN in a Brazilian soil. The results obtained showed that the relative abundance of atzA and trzN, encoding triazine-initiating metabolism in Gram-negative and -positive bacteria, respectively, increased in soil during the first weeks following the application of atrazine. In contrast, the abundance of atzD, encoding cyanuric acid amidohydrolase-the fourth step in the pathway-was not related to the atrazine treatment. Moreover, the overall soil bacterial community showed no significant changes after the application of atrazine. Despite this, we observed increases in the relative abundance of bacterial families in the 4th and 8th weeks following the atrazine treatment, which may have been related to higher copy numbers of atzA and trzN, in part due to the release of nitrogen from the herbicide. The present results revealed that while the application of atrazine may temporarily increase the quantities of the atzA and trzN genes in a Brazilian Red Latosol soil, it does not lead to significant and long-term changes in the bacterial community structure. In this study, we present two proposed approaches to prevent twin pregnancies in dairy cattle 1) single, in vitro-produced embryonic transfer into a recipient cow or 2) subordinate follicle drainage at the time of insemination. Both procedures lead to improved embryonic survival. As the use of sexed semen generates herd replacements and additional heifers, we propose the transfer of a single female cattle embryo into cows that are not suitable for producing replacements, and follicular drainage in lactating cows with genetic merit. This should eliminate economic losses associated with twin pregnancies and increase cattle output of the herd.We examined the effect of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) treatment 5 days after estrus on ovarian dynamics and plasma progesterone (P4) and estradiol (E2) concentrations when the first-wave dominant follicle (DF) was ipsilateral or contralateral to the corpus luteum (CL) in lactating dairy cows. Seventy cows were divided into two groups (1) ipsilateral group (IG; n = 37), in which the first-wave DF was ipsilateral to the CL, and (2) contralateral group (CG; n = 33), in which the first-wave DF was contralateral to the CL. IG and CG were further subdivided into two groups non-treatment group (IG, n = 18; CG, n = 19), and hCG treatment group administrated 1500 IU of hCG 5 days after estrus (IG, n = 19; CG, n = 14). Blood sampling and ovarian examination were performed at 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 days after estrus. Mean diameter of the first-wave DF on Day 9 tended (P = 0.067) to be larger in IG than in CG in the non-treatment group. Mean diameter of CL and plasma P4 and E2 concentrations did not differ between IG and CG in the non-treatment and hCG treatment groups.
