Pemphigus is a potentially fatal disease if left untreated. Valid scoring systems and defined cut-off values for classification of patients would help with better management through specified pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatments.

In this study, pemphigus patients who were receiving immunosuppressive treatments and had recent disease relapse were recruited for examination of pemphigus disease area index(PDAI), autoimmune bullous skin disorder intensity score(ABSIS), physician global assessment(PGA), autoimmune bullous disease quality of life(ABQoL), anti-desmoglein 1(anti-Dsg1), and anti-Dsg3 autoantibody titers from December-2017 to February-2018. Cut-off values were estimated using model-based clustering classification and the 25th and 75th percentiles approach, performed separately for the exclusive cutaneous, exclusive mucosal, and mucocutaneous groups.

In the 109 included patients, the 25th and 75th percentiles cut-offs were 6.2 and 27 for PDAI score, and 4 and 29.5 for ABSIS score. The groups were significantly different for the PDAI, ABSIS, PGA, and ABQoL values. It has been suggested that the combination of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with conventional medicine carries a risk of adverse effects. The prevalence of CAM usage among patients in the Swedish emergency department (ED) is unknown. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate CAM use among visiting patients at a Swedish ED.

A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed between August and October 2016 at an ED in Sweden. The questionnaire included 16 items regarding CAM use, factors associated with CAM use and patient healthcare communication and was distributed to 1600 patients.

A total of 1029 questionnaires was returned (RR 64.3%). Current CAM use was reported by 7.9%, during the last year by 38.0%, and within lifetime by 72.9%. Factors associated with CAM use were being a woman, middle-aged, in full-time employment, with secondary education level, higher use of non-prescription drugs and lower use of prescription drugs. Patient healthcare personnel communication about CAM was found to be approximately 5%.

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a mucocutaneous autoimmune disease with T-cell mediation. Corticosteroids are considered as a first choice in OLP and should be used for a long period with a subsequent increase in dose since the disease has a chronic and recalcitrant nature. There have been efforts to use alternative therapies due to the Corticosteroid's side effects. Curcumin is a non-toxic natural product with different effects on various oral diseases. It demonstrates antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticarcinogenic activities. It seems that Curcumin can be used as a proper alternative for Corticosteroid treatments. To overcome limitations in the bioavailability of Curcumin, the therapeutic effect of oral Nano-Curcumin was evaluated for the first time.

Sixty OLP patients were included in this double-blinded randomized clinical trial. The patients were randomly divided into two groups and received either 'Nano-Curcumin 80 mg' or 'Prednisolone 10 mg' treatments for 1 month. The patients shoed in preventing the recurrence of OLP lesions after the treatment and initial control. Moreover, the amount of Curcumin dose is more important than its use duration in improving OLP.

The present study aimed to assess dental professionals' attitudes and experiences related to the dental treatment of drug users and to interprofessional collaboration with the rehabilitation institutions (RIs).

The study population comprised 141 dentists and dental hygienists (response rate 73%) working in the Public Dental Service (PDS) in three counties in Norway. All of the participants completed an electronically distributed questionnaire on existing practices and experiences regarding dental treatment for drug users and interprofessional collaboration with RIs. The Norwegian Centre for Research Data (NSD) approved the study.

Thirty-five percent of the dentists and 10% of the dental hygienists had treated five or more drug users per month (p < 0.05). The majority of dentists and dental hygienists used more time for examination and treatment of drug users compared to other patient groups. Over 70% of dental clinicians considered drug users as demanding patients due to fear, missing appointments, and poor compliance with oral hygiene advice.
