Our primary objective was to better discern features that can differentiate people with 'mixed' symptomatology from those who experience epileptic seizures (ES) or functional/psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) alone, in a population of patients referred for video-telemetry. We wished to see if we could establish the prevalence of PNES in this population of interest as well as compare both objective (e.g. videotelemetry reports and heart rate measurements) and subjective, patient-centered measures (reported symptoms and experiences).
Data were sourced from a database of all video-telemetry patients admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford, UK) between 1st Jan 2014 and 31st Jan 2016; video-electroencephalogram (vEEG) reports for the above patients; neurology clinic letters; multidisciplinary Team (MDT) reports; psychology assessments and patient notes for all vEEG patients referred for surgical work up. Mixed cases with a dual ES/PNES diagnosis were carefully evaluated again by the Consultant Nht be interesting to see if vagus nerve stimulation could be accompanied by normalization of cardiovascular physiology parameters for people with both epileptic and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures.Language deficits emerge early in the course of schizophrenia, yet research findings in those at-risk for schizophrenia, such as those with schizotypy, are mixed. The purpose of the present study was to elucidate the relationship of language ability, measured via semantic fluency, to schizotypy, examining both linear and non-linear relations. Semantic fluency data from 295 individuals with varying amounts of schizotypal traits were analyzed utilizing traditional methods (i.e., counting words generated that fit a specific semantic category). The content of semantic fluency responses was also analyzed via a semantic infrequency score (i.e., how infrequent participant responses were relative to all responses generated for the category in the study sample) and a total semantic productivity score (i.e., how many unique words generated overall, including those that did not fit the semantic category). Using traditional methods of scoring, schizotypy was not related to semantic fluency. However, schizotypy was non-linearly related to semantic infrequency and productivity, reflecting atypical semantic activation and processing. In particular, cognitive-perceptual and disorganized, but not interpersonal, traits were related to semantic infrequency and productivity. Valuable content-based information is missed when only analyzing semantic fluency data via the traditional method in the schizophrenia spectrum population. Cognitive-perceptual and disorganized traits, attenuated thought disorder symptoms, evidence the strongest relationship to semantic fluency, further illustrating the link between language and schizophrenia symptoms along the schizophrenia spectrum.Herein the adsorption and desorption of Pb2+ on oxidized (O-CNTs) and graphitized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (G-CNTs) were studied, and detailed adsorption mechanisms were discussed by experimental characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The adsorption of Pb2+ on CNTs was co-guided by complexation, ion exchange, electrostatic and cation-π interactions. According to the abnormally low release ratio of Pb2+ on both O-CNTs and G-CNTs ( less then 9.03%), the O-containing groups on CNTs surface are not the only key factor affecting the adsorption behavior. Cisplatin The pore filling and complexation are the main mechanisms leading to irreversible adsorption, especially the important role of the inner-cation-π interaction in Pb2+ adsorption into the inner channel of CNTs at the high initial Pb2+ concentration, and DFT calculations further confirmed this result. The adsorption energy of the inner-cation-π interaction between Pb2+ and CNTs can be as high as - 77.851 kJ/mol, which is much higher than other interactions (≤-41.488 kJ/mol). Moreover, the stability of various adsorption mechanisms by HOMO-LUMO energy gap (Egap), electronic chemical potential (µ) and global hardness (η) were quantitatively measured and further revealed the inner-cation-π interaction is more stable. This study provides a deeper understanding of the removal of heavy metals by porous carbon-based nanomaterials.Significant advances in various industrial processes have resulted in the discharge of toxic pollutants into the environment. Consequently, it is essential to develop efficient wastewater treatment processes to reduce water contamination and increase recycling/reuse. Photocatalytic degradation is considered as an efficient method for the degradation of toxic pollutants in industrial wastewater. However, the use of photocatalytic approaches is associated with numerous limitations, such as lengthy procedures and the necessity for large amounts of catalysts. Hence, it has been proposed that photocatalysis could be combined with other techniques, including sonolysis, electrochemical, photothermal, microwave, ultrafiltration, and biological reactor. The integration of photocatalysis with sonolysis could be remarkably beneficial for environmental remediation. The combination of these processes has the advantages of using uniformly dispersed catalysts, regeneration of the catalyst surface, improved mass transfer, enhanced surface area due to smaller catalyst particles, and production of more active radicals for the degradation of organic pollutants. In this review, an overview on employing sonophotocatalysis for the removal of toxic organic contaminants from aqueous environments is provided. Additionally, the limitations of photocatalysis alone and the fundamental sonophotocatalytic mechanistic pathways are discussed. The importance of utilizing advanced two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor materials in sonophotocatalysis and the common synthetic approaches for the preparation of 2D materials are also highlighted. Lastly, the review provides comprehensive insights into different materials based on metal oxides, chalcogenides, graphene, and metal organic frameworks (MOFs), which are involved in sonophotocatalytic processes employed for the remediation of environmental pollutants.
