In this work, the influences on mechanical performance and biointerfacial affinity of the PEEK/nanohydroxyapatite (nHA) composites are systematically investigated. Results show that the mechanical performance of PEEK/nHA composites was improved by adjusting the nHA content. The maximum values of the tensile, compressive, bending, and impact strength of the composites were increased by approximately 16.2, 25, 54, and 21%, respectively, when compared with that of pure PEEK. Studies in vitro show that PEEK/nHA composites display good cytocompatibility and promote the biomimic formation of HA, adhesion, and proliferation of L929 cells on the surface. Studies in vivo demonstrate that, compared to the pure PEEK, PEEK/nHA composites exhibit higher biointerfacial affinity, including the adhesion and encapsulation of muscle tissues on the surface of the implants and the suppression of inflammatory reaction around the implants. Our findings could pave the way for extensive applications of PEEK/nHA composites in hard tissue repair, particularly orthopedic surgery.The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are the most critical reactions that limit the efficiency of fuel cells, water electrolyzers, and metal-air batteries. Therefore, a need exists to develop cost-effective and highly active alternative electrocatalysts for ORR and OER. This study investigates the influence of metal coordination fashion on electrocatalytic ORR and OER activities among three types of Co-Mn bimetallic oxides (CMOs) tunnel-type (CMO_T), layer-type (CMO_L), and spinel-type (CMO_S) structures. An electrochemical evaluation for CMOs verifies that CMO_L has the highest ORR and OER specific activities, which is relatively better than the previously reported bifunctional metal oxides. Additionally, atomic configuration analysis for the oxides suggests that the excellent ORR and OER activities of CMO_L result from the difference in Co and Mn coordination states. The effect of the process parameters of hydrogen-peroxide-based sterilizer on the sterilization performance of process challenge devices (PCDs) needs to be investigated. Sterilant amount, operating temperature, vacuum pressure, diffusion time, and chamber loading of the sterilizer on the sterilization performance of PCDs were adjusted. Seven PCDs with various morphologies and material containing biological indicators (BI) (EZTest, Geobacillus stearothermophilus) were used to evaluate the sterilization performance. The sterilization success rates of PCDs were 86, 71, and 57% with controlled temperature and pressure, diffusion time, and sterilant volume injection, respectively. The PCD material and structure also obviously affected sterilization performance.
